  1. Everyone says the first 2 weeks are the toughest hun. This will get better xxx
  2. Nerves are completely normal! I made a will as I was convinced something would go wrong. I had never had a general anaesthetic or anything before. In reality, the op was absolutely fine and I was up walking soon after. Been home since the second day and keeping my water and protein down fine. There is nothing you can't handle - I promise. X

    January bypass buddies??

I'm a week out today and just learning when my pouch is full as it's quite subtle for me. I think sipping very slowly is the important bit. If feel a little burp/air bubble in my tummy; I assume it's time to stop drinking and it's been working. Also stick to the recommended volumes from your healthcare providers. Mine said 50ml is all to take at one sitting in the first week or so. Xxx

It was much better than I thought it would be hun. I was up and about walking quickly and I think that helped a lot. You will be a bit tender at the incision sites but you'll get pain relief for that. The key is to walk as much as you can to move the gas and avoid complications like clots. I got up for a walk every two hours. You should also slowly sip water as soon as your carers let you to get off your drip and stay hydrated. Be prepared for a bit of burping and feeling a bit nauseous but there's absolutely nothing that you can't handle xxx

    January bypass buddies??

It's weird how different everyone's post op meal plans are. Mine is protein shakes only - 50ml each hour with a target of 700ml per day for the first 2 weeks. Week 3 and 4 I move to ice cube sized portions of puréed food. What's everyone else been told? X Yeah I'm finding getting alk the protein shakes down really hard. I'm up to about 450ml a day but my goal is 700ml. It's just so gross and I have no appetite xxx

Oh yeah I've still got a little pain in the muscles too. They said the first week will be most tender then will ease a lot. I'm being cautious when standing/sitting and walking every couple of hours day and night. I managed a strawberry protein shake, some chicken consummate and some black decaff coffee so they've sent me home. I have heparin to self inject for a week, dissolvable paracetamol and tramadol, omeprazole, spare wound dressings ando surgical stockings. My medicine cabinet looks like a chemist xxx. How are you feeling sweetheart?

    January bypass buddies??

I'm feeling absolutely fine today. I have been up and walking around regularly since 2 hours after my op. They gave me dispersable paracetamol around 9pm. Offered me tramadol but I really don't need it so I've refused so far. I'm sipping water happily but still on a drip. The general anaesthetic was the only horrible bit for me so far. I took an asthma attack when I went under but thankfully I am in good hands and they've looked after me wonderfully. I'm waiting to be waterproofed up so I can shower now. Want to look my best for my visitors later xx

I'm sure the docs know what they're doing and we can trust them but I think I'd prefer liquid only so I don't mess up the portion sizes!
