    Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

I actually lost this week too-2.5lbs. Still long way to goal but every little bit. However, this week I traveled for work and for the first time since I was a kid, I sat comfortably in a seat on flight, no seatbelt extender, not constantly worried I was encroaching on the space of my seat mate. It felt wonderful :)

I feel like I have stalled too. Haven’t lost anything in 6 weeks. Haven’t gained at least but no loss at all. Even before that it had seriously slowed down. I am down 66 overall since surgery but have so much further to go. I admit I slacked a bit in tracking for a few weeks but have been actively tracking again for last 4 weeks and working out almost daily (rotating cardio and strength). Was hoping to be down more before my wedding in September. Not sure if stress from work and wedding is causing more of a stall. Just feeling really discouraged.
  3. I have a sore throat that has been spreading up to roof of my mouth gradually, the are red spots and it is inflamed. No fever or other issues but it is getting progressively worse. I am concerned if it is acid but I have not had any heartburn symptoms. Has anyone else run into this? I am one month post-sleeve. I have dr appointment Monday but was curious. 4. I had mine 2 weeks post-op. I was even more bloated than usual, terrible cramps and it was EXTREMELY heavy. Plus no Advil and Tylenol does not cut it. It sucked! Hoping now that I am back on my pills it will get better-they made me come off them to reduce chance of clotting after surgery. Sleeve date 12/4/17 SW: 318 CW: 285
  5. For me, morning of surgery I was very nervous but the team was great. It is helpful to have someone with you. They let my boyfriend stay with me until they took me to OR. They made me take a pregnancy test, prepped the area. Anesthesia will talk to you and get you setup IV. Once they push the anesthesia you will be out cold. I woke up in recovery. Very dry mouth so nurse gave me swabs to wet my mouth. Only a little pain then but I was still drowsy. They then took me back to room, checked my IVs and about 1-2 hours later brought me water, broth and jello. Needed to count each 1oz cup-taking 15 or more min to finish 1. Worst part for me was moving around to go to rest room, not because of pain but so many machines-HR monitor, pulse ox, IV and the leg massagers to make sure I didn’t get a blood clot. They wanted me to get up and do laps around ward throughout my stay to reduce chances of clots. Bring slippers and robe-more comfortable than the gown “flapping in the wind”! Everyone is different but mine went very smoothly, was home the next day. Was off painkillers within 2 days. Good luck-I am sure it will go well! Just do what the drs tell you-they are the experts! I was told no because it puts too much air in your stomach, same as straws. Sleeve date 12/4/17 SW: 318 CW: 290

Hi Morgan! I was sleeved on 12/4 so about same timeline. Does milk bother you? I drink Fairlife ultra filtered, 13g protein per cup and lactose free (I was having issues with lactose post-surgery). Also Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt has worked well for me-15g of protein, sometimes I will blend with unflavored protein powder, milk and ice to make a shake. Good luck! protein drink ?'s

What kind are you using currently? Check the carbs/fat/sugar in it, might be high in protein but the sugar and fat can cause dumping. Also, are you using a powder that you blend with milk? The lactose started giving me issues after surgery with dumping. I used Muscle Milk Light, low sugar and fat. I also use Designer Whey powder. Sleeve date 12/4/17 SW: 318 CW: 294

I feel the same way! I am eating every 3 hrs or so, with shakes/water in between. I feel satiated and haven’t felt hungry at all but I almost feel “normal” like it didn’t happen. I am so afraid of causing a leak or stretching because I haven’t had anything that triggers me to stop, other than my own measuring.

Hi all! I had my sleeve on 12/4. My dr had me on liquid for 2 wks and I started puréed on Tues. I feel odd because I haven’t had any pain or nausea since the hospital. I feel like if I eat too much I should be getting pains or something. For puréed I am sticking with 2oz portions multiple times a day and separating eating and drinking. However, curious if anyone else has not felt a trigger that you are full? I’m not hungry at all. On other note, it is Day 20 and I am down 32 lbs!

On the fence about joining a gym

I love kettlebells. I worked with a trainer for the last year and they are great for both strength and cardio. Just be careful that you are using correct form, as you can hurt your back if done wrong. I belong to a gym but have some kettlebells at home for the days I am too busy to get there. The resistance bands are a great idea too and take up virtually no space! I pack mine when I travel for work.

First week - losing too much?

I gained 3 lbs in hospital bc of the fluid retention from IV. By end of first week was down 15 lbs. it leveled out in week 2, been steady at .5-1lb per day as I move into week 3.
  13. I just moved from full liquids to purée. I did low fat cream soups, made with fairlife milk to get extra protein in. Also smooth sugar free Greek yogurt was recommended by my nutritionist. I could only do a couple tbs at a time but it was a nice switch from shakes. Oikos triple zero is good.

    Breaking some rules

I am 7 days post-op and in the same boat! I actually just had some tomato soup. Dietician also recommended Campbell’s cream soup, 98% fat free, as long as it is strained before eating. I make it with Skim Plus milk to add protein to it. Had the mushroom kind last night for dinner!

    Are solid foods more satisfying?

I am 7 days post-op and have the same feeling. I don’t drink quite as quickly but still the protein shakes are easily digested. Cannot wait until puréed foods-not hungry but just cravings, the mind set of something to chew!
