  1. Best response I’ve learned is to say “I’ll have to ask the doctor” or “the doctor is fine with it”. Shuts people up pretty quickly since they’re not a doctor.
  2. Qualifying for wls is based on BMI and comorbidities like high bp and diabetes. Lower requirement if no comorbidities exist. I’ve heard these things too but I was over 400 lbs and was never in the group who people said wasn’t big enough. Do what’s right for you regardless of what anyone says. I might have been huge but anyone who struggles with weight issues has a really hard time no matter how much they need to lose. Plus your surgeon is your best bet for clear and accurate assessment of whether you’re a good candidate. My grandmother struggled terribly all of her life and she was trying to GAIN weight. There’s an emotional component that has nothing to do with the number of pounds. I also carry weight well and no one would have guessed I was over 400.

    Need support

I not only had surgery and have battled emotional eating but I work in the mental health field for the last 7.5 years. The only way a healthcare provider can help you is if you’re honest otherwise they don’t know what is going on. Plus avoiding issues like emotional eating only makes the issue progressively worse until you face it directly. It’s hard but worth it. Good luck.

I’ve regained ALL the weight back 😢♀️

I also downloaded a timer that is very easy to use and lets you click if you are and then a timer starts so that it helps you not eat and drink at the same time which can also be a problem. Use every support and technique you’ve got in your arsenal and don’t be afraid to see your nutritionist or surgeon for support too! I know it’s hard but they are your best resources and trust me have had many in the same situation as you and would rather hear you say things aren’t so great and try to help you than not know and have you struggling!

I’ve regained ALL the weight back 😢♀️

I am 2 years out from gastric sleeve. I’m not gaining weight but still have about 70 lbs to go and need to refocus and return to strict guidelines. It’s easy to slip into old ways and I also find that strict guidelines and emotional support is crucial. I can tell you that it’s the 1 year plus that I find to be the most difficult because it’s easy to get complacent. The most important thing is acknowledging that you need to get back on track and moving on from it. No one is perfect NO ONE. You’ll get there! Good luck with everything!
