I was super freaked out a few weeks ago and had a few thoughts of not going through with the surgery. I had some of the same thoughts as you as I have always been a big guy, not tall like you, but big (5' 10", 325). I decided I would rather be too skinny than deal with being to large for plane seats, riding amusement park rides with my kids, being the biggest guy in the meetings at work, and the general health issues that come with obesity as I get older (40 is just around the corner). One huge motivating factor is thinking about being there for my kids growing up and being healthy enough to enjoy my grandkids to the fullest in my later years. I think a list like Lotte22 mentioned is a good idea to keep your goals in focus. I don't regret my surgery at this point, but I'm really early on just enjoying the scale going down for the first time in a decade.

Worried on day of my surgery!
Beardman replied to sleepingbeauty30's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 12/20. I was super nervous as this was my first surgery/hospital visit of my life as I am generally very healthy (except for the morbid obesity ). I had to wait in my gown for about 2 hours and I had to focus on just breathing and keeping calm so I didn't run out of the hospital. Once they gave me the versed to relax me, I don't remember anything after. I regained my full memory in my hospital room 4 hours later with no anxiety at all. Fortunately, I've had a very smooth recovery with no nausea, vomiting, or really any pain after the gas pains left the first afternoon. I'm still early on, but I don't regret the decision at all. -
Eating TOO LITTLE can cause a weight loss stall!
Beardman replied to Creekimp13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very interesting thread. My program and NUT still maintain less than 600 calories for the first few months. We haven't discussed specifics after that as I'm only 12 days out from my surgery (feeling amazing!). I'm supposed to get 80-100 g of protein and less than 50 g of carbs. So far, as I'm still on liquids I rarely get above 20g of carbs. I know that my wife (sleeved about a month before me) was told by the NUT that she needed to increase her calories as she was averaging 300! So there does seem to be recognition that too little calories is bad. Maybe we will be on a more slow ramp rate that 1000 cal/6 weeks. -
Post op day 4-Gastric Sleeve on 12/19/2017

I was sleeved on 12/20.. having the same fight as you. I'm focusing on keeping my liquids up to prevent dehydration and working on protein when I can. I tried some oikos triple zero greek yoghurt diluted with skim milk today..that was pretty good but I couldn't eat much of it. -
Thanks! Everything went well. Pain isn't so bad, no nausea. Keeping liquids down. Best I could hope for.

Well, today is my surgery. A bit nervous but much more calm than I thought. Maybe drained from 14 days of liquid diet....

Me too...I'm on day 9 of the preop liquid diet..not fun but I've lost 10lbs.

I had the same thought.. hopefully they won't keep it like this long...it's pretty bad.

I've got two weeks of only 3 protein shakes and two sugar free jello cups. I'm at the end of week one and it's not been fun....but it does help you get through the mental change of smelling yummy food with the family and not eating any. I think it helps prepare us for the post surgery lifestyle.

Day one of liquid diet..only 13 more to go.

My wife's lasted about 1.5 hrs. A few more in recovery to wake up before transfer to her room. Total, about 4 hrs before I saw her afterward.

Hey everyone, just got my date! Looks like December 20th...going to be a different Christmas this year. My wife's sleeve went well last week. She had to stay an extra day in the hospital, but she is almost back to normal at 6 days out. This is my first surgery so I'm very nervous...but I think I'll make it.

Just received my approval and completed my pre-op requirements. I'm expecting a mid December date. My wife is in the OR for her sleeve as I type.
