How long were you in the hospital?

Incredibly bad idea. This is a great way to get a leak. Your doc will prescribe meds your stomach can tolerate if you need any. Never use unprescribed meds with your new stomach.

    How much?

Unfortunately, we don't know anything about your health insurance, either. LOL. Or the hospital you're using. Best to direct these questions to your insurance provider.

    Gym workouts

All the guys at my gym seem to be gay. LOL. Super helpful. Gorgeous to look at. I never feel judged.

    Sticks and Stones...

(medically) Morbid = disease inducing Obesity = extreme overweight Morbid obesity simply means.....This person's degree of overweight can potentially induce or has induced disease/illness. It's an objective true statement. There is nothing demeaning or offensive about it.

    Saccharin?

    Shouldn't be a problem:)
  7. If you say you're having a hiatal hernia repair...you might not even be lying:)

    Saccharin?

Everything I've read says it's ok. Couldn't hurt to ask your nutritionist? Have you tried Splenda? I can't imagine liking saccharin! I know some people must or they wouldn't still sell so much of it...but that's a mystery to my taste buds:)

    2 week pre op diet

I liked to pour caramel Premier Protein into decaff coffee. Tasted like a weird new Starbuck's flavor. LOL. I also cheated slightly and drank the clear broth from Chinese take out Wonton Soup a couple of times. (God, it was good) Absolutely no wontons, though...my puppy got those. Word of advice...if you cheat (DONT CHEAT!!!!) but if you do...eat only lean protein or nonstarchy veggies...nothing with sugar/carbs or you'll run the risk of having your surgery cancelled because your liver didn't shrink. Again...the official answer is Don't Cheat.

    Saccharin?

If you like it, use it. Previous studies linking it to cancer have been debunked. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/artificial-sweeteners/art-20046936
  11. A lot of comfort foods suck after surgery. Bread, for instance...gets stuck and feels awful for a long while. Sugary or other low glycemic carb foods might make you a little nauseated. Comfort food might not be a comfort at all anymore. You'll find yourself craving salad. It's wild. And kinda cool. And disturbing when food no longer has the power to make you feel better. Lot to get used to. Guilt doesn't help. Waking up each day and trying your hardest....does. Only dead things float down stream....keep swimming upstream.
  12. Omeprazole here. We sprinkled them on sugar free Cool Whip...easy down the hatch. My doc does four months worth on everyone and continues/discontinues on an individual basis after.
  13. It continues to fall out until you are bald. Then your eyebrows fall out. Then they all grow back in purple. Or...it's like...individual and good nutrition helps. Who can say for sure?

    2 week pre op diet

I might be alone on this....but I've always preferred the ugly truth to "comforting" lies. But of course, it's subjective. There might be weirdos out there who actually enjoy drinking all their meals for a month. Who knows?

    Pre-Op anxiety

Use your fear and negative mindset to your advantage. Instead of saying....what if I die of this surgery? (you won't)....say to yourself....Statistically, if I continue to be obese I am at greater risk for heart disease, stroke and cancer. Be more afraid of the effects of remaining obese. It's statistically much smarter to be afraid of heart disease, stroke and cancer....than a surgery with less morbidity than gallstone surgery. Also...they tested the heck out of you. EKG, bloodwork, chest films, GI study.... Having a life threatening surprise under these circumstances is almost unheard of.

    2 week pre op diet

To me, the 2 week pre-op diet (followed by another two weeks of eating nothing after surgery) was the most hellish part of the ordeal. There's no way to sugar coat it. It sucks. All you can do is get through it a day at a time. By day 3-4 your will is broken and you resign yourself to your fate. Gets easier after that...and also freakier. I wish you the best during this tough stretch. If I can do it (and I did) anyone can. But it ain't easy:) Take it a day at a time. You'll make it.
  17. I would wear clothes from Goodwill. I would buy food at Aldi. I would buy a fixer upper house, car, boat, etc.. But when it comes to surgery, I wouldn't go anywhere but a center of excellence affiliated with a major trauma center and preferably at a major research hospital. My surgeon needs to be board certified in his/her specialty and must have a reputation for excellence. There are no guarantees in life. However, sometimes increasing the benefit-vs-risk odds is worth the extra cost. To each their own, however.

    Congratulations:) Well done!

    Wine and Sleeve

Yep, you sure can. You can also have the occasional glass of cola, but it, too, is not recommended.

How long were you in the hospital?

I was approved to stay two nights if that was my preference, but I hate being in the hospital. I made it out in just under 24 hours:)

    Stricture AND Ulcer

Do you have heliobacter pylori? Were you tested for it either before or after surgery? That's where I would start....what caused the ulcer? If they haven't biopsied and checked for H. Pylori, that's what I would personally insist on. If you have an active infection of that bacteria you need to treat it and resolve it before you do anything else.

1 Week post op and already hungry?

The myth that surgery eliminates hunger is still rampant. Back in the day, when options for anti-nausea meds were more limited....everyone was nauseated and no one was hungry. It was true...but not because the surgery created a lack of hunger. It was true because before anti-nausea meds and well balanced protein drinks, and a better understanding of how to beat dehydration.... people had a much rougher time. This hasn't been true for a long, long time and people still propagate this myth. These days lots of people make it through surgery without even a hint of nausea. (I did) Of course you're hungry....you're literally starving your body, under a time of physical stress...and it's noticing. One week post-op, I could have eaten my own foot...I was freaking starving. The good news is that you'll feel better soon. Once you start to add more substantial food back into your diet and get your calories up...you'll find that you're satisfied and feel pretty normal eating a lot less. But yeah...sorry about the hunger thing...you were lied to. Not to say overall hunger doesn't improve somewhat, I believe it does. But it sure doesn't eliminate hunger when you're eating starvation level calories.
