Room for improvement: Stop obsessing:)

What have you done for yourself lately?
Creekimp13 replied to Apple203's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
New Teva Tirras in blue:) (already have them in chocolate and beige) Love them:) -
Tuckersmom....my nutritionist actually warned us that this occasionally happens. She said not to worry...if it happens, it doesn't mean you're broken. Just stick to the program. All is well. It's kinda rare...but it does happen to a few people...and she was one of them when she had her surgery.

I had no side effects. A little increase or decrease in potassium is much less dangerous than untreated high blood pressure and edema. I didn't experience either issue...but even if I had, the benefits would still outweigh the risks by a landslide.

Needing to pee all the time
Creekimp13 replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most common reason for frequent urination (when you're not consuming inordinate amounts of water) is a urinary tract infection/irritation. Very simple to test for. Kidney stones are very common post bariatric surgery...so it's important to follow up. -
I took triamterene-hctz for over a decade because I had venous reflux in my lower legs. Nasty edema. The pill helps you pee out excess water gathering in your legs, and helps control your blood pressure. I never had any problems with triamterene. After surgery, I was taken off this medication and did great:) Since my weight loss, I no longer need it:) My edema is much, much better. Am able to wear tall boots again:) Oh, and my BP is normal now, without meds. High blood pressure is dangerous. Treating it when you have it...protects you. The benefits outweigh the risks. And when you lose weight and improve your lifestyle habits, you can safely go off it (with your doctor's supervision). Take your meds!

it is what it is. Obviously, you can stretch and tone and hope for the best....but don't expect miracles. When you're done...if you don't like how it looks, consider plastics. Youth helps. Weighing less when you start helps. Good collagen genetics help. There is some evidence that losing weight slower helps, but the bottom line seems to be that loose skin is nearly unavoidable when you have a significant weight loss.

Letting out a big sigh of relief because...
Creekimp13 replied to Czuck1983's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! Best wishes! -
My surgeon required barium x-rays of the upper GI. If they looked normal, you were good to go. If you flunked (I flunked), you had to have an endoscopy and biopsy any gastritis legions for H. Pylori. Was a piece of cake. No biggie at all.

Feeling regretful, help

It gets better. Hang in there. -
What do you guys do for fun?
Creekimp13 replied to ancirasd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The standing date is to go to the library with hubby Saturday morning. After which, we'll go to lunch...then, we'll go walking somewhere. Parks, forest, zoo, Then, we'll come home, read, watch movies, be lazy cats. Sunday, we'll do light projects, clean up, go somewhere....swimming, a museum, visit friends, hang out....or simply hang out in bed having naughty fun time and reading our books. LOL. We're boring people. We play cribbage together and watch stupid stuff on the internets, and sometimes we take a little road trip and visit our kid at college where we'll do some sort of weird little adventure, see new things. My bestie and I go on weird missions together. A couple weeks ago, we dressed all in black and snuck into her Ex husband's yard and rescued a lawn ornament sculpture her (now deceased) dad gave her, that she forgot to take after the divorce (was winter). 15 years later, she was still obsessing about it....so we played Mission Impossible one night...and got it back:) Technically, we stole it. LOL:) We also do haunted houses, flea markets, ghost hunt, and make lots of weird art projects together. This year we're going to go out in canoes, gather up drift wood, build an elephant, and set it on fire. The boys will probably help. And if the kiddo is home, we'll have an elephant burning campout for her friends. -
Mike, you're awesome! Great work!

4 Days Post-op....feeling really depressed and lots of anxiety...
Creekimp13 replied to DMF3296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your doctor. Weakness like you're describing isn't normal. You should be walking around every hour to prevent clots and not napping....because you need every hour possible to sip fluids. The walks don't have to be huge...just little walks around your house every hour. Sounds to me like you're getting dehydrated or have something else going on. You're also suffering some buyer's remorse....which is pretty common. It gets better. I am very concerned by the weakness you're describing. When I was four days post-surgery, I was comfortable walking 5 miles a day. I was picking up my house, doing light housework, shopping, etc. I felt terrific. I know experiences vary....but if you're usually a high energy person...the dramatic shift you're describing is troubling. -
BariatricPal Monthly box subscription
Creekimp13 replied to CharmedPam's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I love the idea of the box and being able to try small quantities. Why? Cause all this stuff is expensive. I don't want to pay $12 for a whole box of a flavor of something I don't like. I think people don't realize how expensive many of these products are. We're not talking going to Sams and getting an economy size box of stuff for $50. We're talking about an assortment of specialty items...which tend to be incredibly pricey. It is what it is. I think it's a really good deal. I really like the idea of being able to taste things before I commit to big quantities. -
Hunger back and stomach capacity high?
Creekimp13 replied to ElseeG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This surgery will not control your hunger. It might change it, lessen it. Food will be different, cravings will be different. But you'll still get hungry. It will also not change your ability to overeat yourself into gaining weight. It will be more difficult than before to overdo it, because you'd have to eat many times a day, but you can definitely still get hungry and eat yourself to weight gain. Ultimately, the surgery doesn't do the "work"....you have to do the work. The surgery gives you a jump start. It gives you restriction so that your ability to screw up in one setting is minimal. And it gives you a chance to revamp your diet and pick a forever diet that is more sensible. It gives you more rapid reward for good habits like exercising, sticking to your calorie budget, and making good choices. But it's no miracle. In the end, all the work is on you. -
Shite happens. Tomorrow is a new day:)

Here's a reality check for ya: abusive relationships make us sick, sabotage our hard work, and keep us fat. Ditch anyone who treats you like this. Yesterday. OP's boyfriend might just need an attitude adjustment that could be achieved with a little education and a heart to heart. But if he doesn't knock this crap off....only a doormat would put up with it. Some nonsense isn't worth working to correct. Makes too much of your life toxic.

Bio Oil seems to be helping my Turkey Neck
Creekimp13 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
About any pharmacy. Yep, it's got a smell....kinda like baby powder/shampoo...I'm not crazy about the smell, but it seems to go away pretty quick. -
The best answer is...ask your doctor or check your packet. For maintenance after sleeve, I take: 2 Flinstone's complete chewables 500mcg B12 B50 Complex 4 Calcium Citrate 315mg D3 5000 iu (I am D deficient...most people don't take this one)

Confused About Carbs
Creekimp13 replied to MrsGamgee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Or...the nurse understand that high protein diets can further stress kidneys that may have already been damaged by diabetes. High protein diets can also be hard on the cardiovascular system long term. There will be a lot of controversy about this topic because high protein low carb diets are very popular right now and some folks do very well on them. But yes, my nutritionist would say the same thing to you. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/high-protein-diets/faq-20058207 -
Stop eating at 8pm. Make it a firm rule. Only herbal tea after 8pm. Or water...or whatever you like to drink. At 9pm, take a melatonin and try to get to bed earlier. Better sleep reduces calorie intake overall, reduces cortisol, makes us less likely to eat from fatigue. Good sleep is hugely tied to better success with our diet. Eating late messes up circadian rhythms that help us eat and sleep in a good pattern.

Cooking for family post-op
Creekimp13 replied to Sparkle&Storm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is gonna sound deranged. But during the liquid diet, I actually liked cooking for people. And I enjoyed watching theme eat, too. Spooky, isn't it? Kinda freaked me out while I was doing it. Hubby was really disarmed. He expected to be doing his own cooking. My mom was really freaked out, too. She came over to keep me company the second day I was home from the hospital and I made her a taco salad for lunch....and dutifully drank my protein drink and broth. Cooking is something I enjoy. I enjoy watching people enjoy what I cook, too. I found it comforting to watch them eat...I know that sounds really messed up, and I should probably talk to the therapist about it. LOL. That said...I'm cooking very healthy now. Made extremely delicious salads for dinner tonight with mandarin oranges, apple, avocado, strawberries and rotisserie chicken. Homemade ginger dressing. I am always gonna really enjoy food. But I can make better choices now and I can be sane about portion sizes. I can watch calorie counts. I can avoid refined carbs and eat really good whole food. Some people at group kept talking about not making their children go on a diet....because somehow treats are love...and childhood should include fun food. I couldn't help thinking....our kids share our genetics. Maybe we should invest in gifting them with really good eating habits. Give them an appetite for healthier treats. Work hard to give them a legacy of fitness. Find sensible alternatives to unhealthly stuff that still tastes great. Not saying we need to be health food nazis....but for basic everyday eating, there's no reason our kids shouldn't eat healthier stuff. Bowls of chopped up veggies in the fridge. Fruit. Whole grains. Better choices. They do learn from us. Our habits become their habits. Just sayin.
