    Scared of sugar!!

I won't dump when I eat sugary things...sleeve people generally don't...it's more of a bypass issue. But I will get a little nauseated if I eat over about 100 calories of sugary stuff. I'll want a glass of water and will feel kinda crappy if I overindulge in refined carbs. My diet doesn't allow for over 75 calories of refined sugar per day. Most days I don't eat them. But once in a while, I'll have a bite or two of someone's dessert....and I'll enjoy it. But it takes serious discipline. Jenn's dead right about needing to make healthy choices and have the discipline to limit or avoid these kinds of things all together. You can eat them. Just be aware that they'll cause the same problems for you that they always have....rebound hunger and impulsive overindulgence. They can sabotage you.

    Greek “no pasta” salad

I make something like this and add a little Protein Pasta. Good eats!

    One week out.

If you're a week out and not drinking any more than that...you're going to end up in trouble with dehydration soon. Please drink more water. It's extremely irritating to have to visit an emergency room due to dehydration that could have been prevented.

Did you go home with a drain?

They're not as common anymore, but there are instances when some surgeons still use them.
  5. It's maddening and everyone has been there.
  6. If you ate more you'd probably start to lose again. Your body thinks it's starving to death and has many evolutionary defense mechanisms in place to keep you from starving to death.

    Eating habits

    I love being a hobbit:)

    Life after keto

You will gain weight for a couple of weeks. Stored glucose has a water component. If you've been on keto for a while, you'll have depleted your body of normal glucose stores. When you refill those stores with a traditional diet....the glucose is stored with quite a bit of water. Within a couple of weeks, you'll start losing again. But yes...you'll feel that bump. Try not to get discouraged....you're not gaining any fat.

    Not sleeping

How many ounces per day are you drinking? Are you estimating or actually keeping track? Sounds to me like you need to drink much more than you are. Also...insomnia in the weeks following surgery is fairly common. It gets better.
  10. Eat well and ask your doctor if your low RBW is an indication of anemia, and if you should be doing anything to treat it. Ultimately, you should always ask your doctor about unusual fatigue.

Not losing as much as others

The closer you get to goal...the slower the loss will be. Patience.
  12. What clothing is age appropriate to you? A: Whatever the hell I want. Do you care if things are age appropriate on you or other people? A: Nope. Couldn't give a shite. Have you ever been called a cougar, puma or jaguar? To the guys Manther? A: Yep:) Is there an age appropriate line for guy's...Turn in the speedo and shorty shorts after 40? A: Speedos look just as horrific on young men as old men. At least with old men, there's a comedy factor:)
  13. You're really brave to post about this, and it's deeply appreciated. Keep up the good work!

    Fell off the exercise wagon!

Caring for two nine month olds...when you're not used to it...is exercise enough.
  15. WARNING: Not for folks who have a weak stomach.... But for those who are biologically curious and don't find watching surgery upsetting, this is a fascinating look at the post mortem exam of a significantly obese woman who donated her body to science. You can find it on Netflix if you'd rather watch on your big TV, or here's a link to watch on your comp:
  16. 75 calories....8.5g of protein. Sustainable and tasty (I'm told...I'll find out soon) Hell, I'll eat crickets. Why not? https://www.amazon.com/Cricket-Protein-Powder-Chocolate-Smoothies/dp/B014ER1AD0/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_325_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=BZ9VQTZB21K79FHP0T4S&th=1

    Swimsuit Options??

Couple years ago I got a swim tunic and brightly colored men's board shorts. No one seemed to care that my butt was in men's trunks. They're way more practical. You can sit around in them and feel comfortable. i like comfort:)
  19. When someone has a heart bypass, are they taking the easy way out? I mean, technically, if they eliminated all salt and fat from their diet, and did moderate exercise, and avoided stress...they'd be just fine. (or, you know, they might die...but that's just life) And yet, no one says....they took the easy way out....when it's a heart bypass...even though clogged arteries are similarly a result of bad diet and bad genetics. Fat is the last safe social prejudice. And people do love to judge. Personally, I've enjoyed culling the people from my life who make negative ignorant remarks.

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

I had a cesarean section 22 years ago and was told BACK THEN that shaving pubes is a dated practice and that no progressive hospitals do this anymore because it provably causes more harm than benefit. Have had 3 major surgeries including sleeve...no one has ever touched my pubes...was catheterized twice. Never had an infection of any kind. For sleeve, was not even catheterized. Having to pee is good motivation for getting up and walking, which you should be doing ASAP.

    Water pills

I was on lisinopril for a decade, too:) 10mg Went off it after surgery when I went off the triamterene. Great BP, No edema, no meds:) (save thyroid...I still take that one, but that's it)

Are we allowed to share how psych evaluation go?

Tropical....yours is a particularly good cautionary tale about the perils of working with a psychologist who has little training regarding bariatric surgery. When getting an appointment with a therapist, I think an important first question for your surgeon and for the psychologist is "Have you had patients approved for surgery by this person in the past? Have you approved people for bariatric surgery in the past?" If the answer is no...move on. Don't take the appointment. Pick someone who actually approves people. I'm grateful my group has a dedicated therapist who not only does our evaluations, but also runs our support group and does therapy for people experiencing difficulty during their journey. Having a therapist with a working knowledge of the process, and of the typical problems encountered by people along the way...is so valuable.

    Progress!

The six months goes so fast....and you're absolutely right that you need those six months to prepare, to learn, to make your changes gradually. Lots of work to do, and six months is just about right:) Great start! Best wishes:)
