Approaching surgery date is freaking me out!!
Creekimp13 replied to Nikki_Nik87's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You betcha:) -
Each person is different. I, personally could have gone back to work in two weeks. I was picking up my house, doing laundry and dishes and stuff the day after I got home from the hospital. I felt great. Someone else will say it took them until week three to feel good enough to make it through a day. Someone else might get a complication that has them back in the hospital with no return to work possible for over a month. Most people go back to work around week 3-4.

If it helps? I had a super easy surgery experience. Zero nausea, minimal pain, no vomiting, perfect recovery. LOVE my sleeve:) I've felt terrific from the day of surgery. Worst part for me was the presurgical diet. Everything else was much easier than I expected. Figured it couldn't hurt to hear good experience....while you're reading horror stories. LOL:) (and everyone does that, too) -

Everyone goes through the last minute jitters. You start your liquid diet and things get very REAL....and a lot of people freak out a little:) Trust your saner self. Trust the person who already made the decision and has been working toward this and fighting for it for months. Nerves are natural. It'll be ok:) -
Need to vent -- post op sleeve
Creekimp13 replied to Catden's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They also could have been implying.....Wow, that's a terrific loss for someone who JUST had sleeve and not full bypass. For all you know, the previous patient could have been someone who had full bypass who wasn't losing as much as you are and they found it a bit surprising and impressive. So many, many possibilities. When in doubt...try to remember....doctors are typically too absorbed in the science of the cases.... to make a personal slight, or even imply one. There would be no benefit from them behaving this way, since they know patients (particularly bariatric patients) can be mood swinging and sensitive. It would cause headaches for them that they don't want and genuinely do try to avoid. -
Not gonna lecture you on it....cause you're an adult and can make your own decisions. But you are aware that if you continue to smoke after surgery at all...you strongly increase the chances of having a leak or staple line ulcer, right? Smoking after weight loss surgery is a huge risk, and springing a lead is a mess. To each, their own, but I personally would never take a risk like that. Would want to make sure I could quit before surgery. Many doctors will not do surgery if you flunk a nicotine test a month before surgery...for good reason. Best wishes to you.

I dunno...I wouldn't take that as an insult at all. It's sort of a akin to saying.....She just had a tonsillectomy, she didn't have her tonsils and adenoids removed. They're just quantifying the facts. Fact...RNY patients lose more and lose faster. (Typically) Fact...RNY patients have more issues with malabsorption and dumping. (Typically) Fact....ya picked what ya picked. I chose to *just* be sleeved, too:) I think you're assigning more meaning than was intended. Very likely had nothing to do with you or your progress (which is excellent)..... and everything to do with the statistics as they relate to expected progression after both surgeries. Meh...if it were me...I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I think 90 is an awesome loss! Nice work! -
<----Had the three month stall...survived:) Hang in there. This, too, shall pass!

Steel cut oats with pecans and berries. Ate this nearly every day for weeks. Now it's avocado toast. Love it all kinds of fancy ways, but plain with a drizzle of olive oil, black pepper and red pepper flakes is fantastic. A little melted swiss on there is lovely, too. Mainstay....is chicken breast. I bake a whole bunch of breasts with salt and pepper and use the chicken cubes for all sorts of stuff. In salads, in veggie soup, in refried beans, made into curry, stir fry, etc... Also very fond of stuffed peppers. Lean ground round with brown rice and topped with tomatoes with chilis, cillantro and lime. I cut them sideways to lay in the pain flatter so they cook all the way through. I eat about a quarter of a pepper and I'm stuffed. They keep in the fridge for days without getting blinky, and you can freeze them, too. Veggie soup is a go-to. Cabbage, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, carrots, celery, peppers, tomatoes, and usually a can or two of chick peas:) Steak slices. Good with eggs, good in Caesar salad, good in a taco salad, good by themselves for snacking:)

Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS

My brothers wanted to see my loose belly and arm skin over Easter...to tease me about it. We're in our 40's/50's. My family has a very twisted self deprecating sense of humor, and a couple of them work in health care. (and yes, I showed them...just to make them flee in horror..lol) Have to say though, one of them said....that's not too bad! And told me I didn't need plastic surgery. Which I took as an extremely odd.....could only happen in my family....compliment. -
Stalls are very common. Even stalls that last weeks. Stick with your program, be patient. Nothing has gone wrong.

Serious Overeating & Binging Problems Post Op
Creekimp13 replied to sleeveduk96's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to address your diet in a meaningful way. Your choices are setting you up for problems. it's not too late to start over and save the effects of your surgery. You can do this, but you need to focus and do some research on better dietary choices. Work on good quality protein without so much salt. Make sure you're getting 60g or Protein a day. If you eat carbs like bread and rice, make sure to choose lower glycemic index options like whole grain bread and brown rice. White bread and white rice will set you up for rebound hunger like crazy. Look for lower fat cheeses. If you have any pasta, try the protein or whole grain pasta. It's less of a trap for rebound hunger. Avoid juice, it's pure sugar. Eat a half a piece of fruit instead. The fiber is good for you and you'll feel full on fewer calories. Talk to your dietitian about what your calorie limit should be, Keep a journal of everything you eat. -
Serious Overeating & Binging Problems Post Op

You should see the dietitian for diet advice, and a therapist to help understand the reasons for your lack of compliance with a healthy post surgical diet. Surgery doesn't work without the lifestyle changes. Lifestyle changes can be sabotaged by emotional issues. You need to address your diet in a meaningful way. Your choices are setting you up for problems. -
FOOD DIVORCE We have an unhealthy relationship, You and I. I'm tired of the way you consume my life You are the way I experience happiness, sadness, rewards, loss, failure. You control me. I control you. I'm tired of our constant, circular fights I want to change your importance. I want to want other things more. I want to go metal detecting instead of getting ice cream I want to feel more excited about a new book than a restaurant. I want to gift my creativity, my brains, my talent to conversations, projects, art, adventures and not cooking, and dieting, and the circular mindfeckery that is you Food, you are a toxic relationship in my life. I want a divorce. I want you to leave me the hell alone. We can still share the gut, and we can raise a healthy body together. You get visitation, and we'll do our damnedest to respect each other for the sake of the body. But my mind needs to move the feck on. My life is better without your constant presence.

I just read this: The average American woman over age 20 weighs 168.5 pounds and stands at just above 5 feet 3 inches (about 64 inches) tall. And the average waist circumference? That’s at just over 38 inches. https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/average-weight-for-women

Let's Play Another Round of "How Much Am I Eating Now?"
Creekimp13 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Fluff...far more likely they were thinking...OMG, how is she living on so little? My family had a fit at Easter that I was putting like a tablespoon of each thing on my plate. But there were SO MANY good things to try...there was plenty on my plate. My plate was probably over 300 calories and I was freaking STUFFED...but two of my brother were like....Seriously? That's all you can eat? No wonder you're shrinking! I feel bad eating in front of you when you can't! And I'm like...No, Dude....compared to usual, i'm eating stupid right now and it's more than enough. I'm honestly eating all I want, no need to feel bad. I'm stuffed! But yeah...we're used to the little portions now. Other people, not so much. -
I bit a Cadbury Egg. i'll admit it. They're my favorite Easter candy. One little bite...and it was freaking wonderful...and disgusting...all at the same time. Handed it off to my daughter immediately to keep from re-offending. And did not do it in my house. For some reason, I feel better about a bite of a "special occasion treat" when I don't bring it into my house. How weird is that? Also...there have to be support people present. LOL. I have a lot of weird rules about consuming naughty things I need to be kept accountable for. It's like....I think drinking is worse when done alone and secretively at home. If my family sees me bite that egg...and quit after a bite....it's safe. (weird new safety parameters for a weird new life)

For over a month...it was oatmeal for breakfast. Loved my oatmeal. Still love it, but have changed gears. Here's my new favorite breakfast:) Avocado toast. Can be made so many ways. Sometimes I do just smashed avocado, a drizzle of olive oil, black pepper, red pepper flakes and a few sunflower seeds. Some people like a little bit of chicken, corn and black beans and taco seasoning. Any kind of avocado toast is my new thing. The bread is Brownberry Nutty Bread. Good eats!
