Busting it out at the Gym!
Creekimp13 replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great work, Seahawks:) Exercise is my secret weapon:) It's the most suprising part of this process that I've really liked. I feel amazingly better and my physical endurance is better than it's been since my 20's. It's also a LOT hard for me to get my heartrate up that high....which is a blessing and a curse. LOL. I'm walking 12,000 steps a day, and doing tougher cardio at least three days a week. Am loving rebounding workouts, dancing workouts, and swimming at the Y. Gotta mix it up, I'm told. Trying to get variety:) Not much for the gym, but I do like the pool, walking and running in the forest, and sweatin to the oldies with Richard Simmons....when I'm not bouncing on trampolines. LOL. How terrific the activity makes me feel...is a big surprise. I've got all sorts of projects planned for the summer....barn and basement clean out, brush clearing, lot of physical things that used to sound like pure hell sound so much easier and more enjoyable now. Keep doing what you're doing! -
Type 2 diabetes and liquid diet pre and post op
Creekimp13 replied to Janetslp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These are good questions for your doctor. With more frequent blood sugar testing, you might be able to better dial in you meds to avoid situations like you're describing....particularly if your diet is very stable like it would be on the liquid diet. As you lose weight and change your diet, your needs for meds might change significantly. Discuss this process with your doctor. Question....why won't you be able to drink a little juice in case of emergency after your sleeve? -
Surprised by Insurance.

That actually sounds like a really good kick start. Weight watchers is old school, but it's good basic nutrition and good support. Wishing you the best:) -

Sleeve complications again!
Creekimp13 replied to Jellibean88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So sorry to hear about your awful luck. Complications like yours are very uncommon, but they do happen....and you've reminded us. Wishing you the very best. I think there's a very good chance you're going to feel a lot better and start having a more typical experience after your revision surgery. Good luck and keep us posted. -
Congratulations!

Woot! Lookin great! Hard work is paying off:) -
I'm getting impatient for spring, and wanted a nice outdoor grilled chicken breast with pineapple and balsamic glaze...and steamed corn on the cob. Danger Will Robinson! Danger! I figured I wouldn't have any issues with corn on the cob because I can eat canned/frozen corn ok, and have no problem eating a potato skin if I cut it small and chew it well. Hell, I eat celery diced up in chicken salad these days......no issues. For whatever reason....the corn on the cob (which was absolutely delicious, btw)....didn't play well with my sleeve tonight. I think the problem...is that maybe I ate too many kernels too fast and didn't chew long enough? I think the action of gnawing it off the ear makes it easy to swallow without chewing well enough, and getting too big a bite. You don't want to inhale, so you swallow...etc. Anyway....after gnawing half an ear, digestion stopped moving for a bit, I didn't get the slimes....but I could tell if I didn't quit eating, I would. So, I quit, and waited, and an hour later was able to finish my chicken and pineapple. I'm gonna take a rain check on corn on the cob for a while. Maybe if I cut it off the cob, it'll be easier to keep my bites small and chew well? Figured I'd mention it cause it's getting to be that time of year. Be careful if you run the experiment:)

GI issues post-op, a year out. Did anyone else experience this?
Creekimp13 replied to jessgnc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only advice I can offer is to build good populations of good gut bugs. My kiddo is a microbiology major who just went to a lecture on gut microbiota and fecal transplant (yep, this is a thing) and she was telling me that a lot of chronic constipation and diarrhea issues can be related to out of balance gut microbiota. How can you improve your gut bugs? Eat quality dietary fiber... 30g a day for the gals. More for the guys. (obviously, discuss this with your doctor) Fiber feeds the most beneficial gut bugs and helps them re-establish healthy populations when they've been wiped out by antibiotics, or dealing with the new conditions of a modified gut. Here's a cool list: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948 Also, try to eat cultured and fermented foods...yogurt, miso, pickles, sauerkraut, kefir, cheeses. The key...she says...is not quantity...it's diversity. Don't overdo portions, but mix up the variety a lot. Just a little bite of each kind of thing adds up to benefits. -
The whole point of the diet is to shrink your liver through intense carb restriction. You are sabotaging your hard work with the fruit. It's pure sugar. Cut out all fruit until after surgery. Protein drinks, veggies, very lean meat/protein...are the way to go. Kim, above, is spot on.

I wonder why some people have issues with Romaine lettuce and some don't? I remember being cautioned about it by my dietitian...and I was like.....Oops, i've been eating Cesar salad for a couple of weeks. Pretty early on....8 weeks out? And she was like, You're lucky. If it's not bothering you, go with it, but some people don't tolerate it well until later. Does it make any sense that a pea pod would be tolerated when lettuce isn't? I totally believe you...it's just so weird, isn't it? The many mysteries of tummy tolerances...

Maybe four years out you'll fall on your arse and won't succeed either. Who knows? How's it feel to be told that? Did "tough love" ever help you to lose weight? Or did you just see it for the bullying it was? I need to go work on being constructive some more.
-
The OP is FOUR WEEKS out. You couldn't eat more than 3 teaspoons a month after surgery?

My nutritionist is completely cool with Subway. Provided you choose lean meats and whole gain bread. White bread will cause hunger spikes. Have to watch fatty condiments, too. I can't imagine that chicken wings would be a problem if they were baked and not coated or fried. (i'm unfamiliar with 7/11's wings) I think everyone would agree chips are pure junk. While I absolutely think constructive advise is warranted...this judgey superior **** makes me nuts. We were all morbidly obese folks. We have all made horrible decisions about food in our lives...over and over and over. Not a damned one of us....has room to feel superior to these sorts of struggles. And you know what? A hell of a lot of us...who feel very smug right now...will regain weight. No one here has all the answers for everyone. Everyone makes peace with this process at their own pace, and some folks really struggle. It doesn't help them to be ridiculed. It doesn't help to make assumptions and judge them. And losing weight doesn't give you a license to be a bully...or even an expert on everyone else's process. I think people here really need to work on constructive criticism. Myself included.

Yay!

I love brocoslaw...and hate it...for the same reasons. I make mine with turkey bacon, sunflower seeds and raisins:) Light candles.

No, you were right not to be a d*ck, allwet. I don't think this person is trolling. I think they're being honest about what they're eating FOUR weeks out. I think other people on this thread are being d*cks, though. At 3 weeks, I was eating 1000 calories a day. Very comfortably. On the advice of my team. I strongly disagree with the choices this person is making, but I'm not about to call them a liar, I could have eaten a 3 inch piece of Subway sandwich four weeks out. In fact, I did. Half a 6 inch turkey breast sandwich on wheat is 140 calories. Two wings...is about 150 calories. Starbuck's spinach egg white wrap has 290 Chips from Subway are 130 calories a bag. That's a daily total of 720 calories. I was eating more than that at 4 weeks...at the urging of my dietitian. (better choices, I like to think...but still...the volume is very workable for some people at 4 weeks) Why don't I think this person is trolling? Because I actually took the time to look at their posting history.....and it would seem really odd to me for someone to make pre-surgical and post surgical posts following up on given dates......and tell other people they're proud of them for their weight loss ....when they're here to troll. I think this person is for real, and incredibly rude things were just said to them. And I might be wrong. But given the posting history, I'm going to err on the side of decency and apologize to the OP for his/her treatment.

Need to vent -- post op sleeve
Creekimp13 replied to Catden's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The surgeon won't care if you're pissed off over nothing. If you're that easy to offend and upset....they'd rather be out from under you and will actively hope that you leave and never come back. Doctors have enough headaches without thin skinned patients, and they don't suffer fools gladly. Just the truth. If you're constantly looking for ways to portray yourself as a victim...you will always be a victim. -
