    “Turkey Neck”

it's extremely irritating, isn't it? LOL:) I have had pretty good luck with Bio-Oil at night and collagen cream after showering in the morning. Good luck!

    Terrified & Excited!

Your risk of death as a side effect of health problems due to remaining fat....is far greater statistically than your risk of dying in a planned surgery with preventative testing. Don't be scared of the surgery. Be scared of not having surgery. It's a more logical fear.

    Silly Psychiatrist

I wouldn't call him silly so much as irritating and unprofessional.

    Shorts!

If you're buying shorts....remember to get some sexy sandals, too:)

    Shorts!

I am excited about having my legs back this year, too:) Last summer my edema was the pits....literally....massive pitted edema...which was so disheartening cause I used to really like my legs. Well...they're back! Yay! Just this week I tried on my old knee high English Huntseat boots and those suckers fit and look fantastic. Shorts, capris, skirts....here I come!

    No menstruation cycle

I'm not even gonna talk about my crazy menstrual weirdness....except to say to anyone in their 40's....I feel your pain. peri/menopaus sucks! (but being done with the period monster would be really really nice...here's hoping there's not too long to go)

Long term side effects of vsg

There are a LOT of people here who have gotten to goal and maintained weight loss post sleeve. Only about 50% of people regain weight after their initial weight loss....and the amount regained is pretty small.
  9. I do about 6 miles every day. But if you're just starting out, I'd set a goal for 5000 steps, and add 1000 steps every week or two. Start slow and keep building:)
  10. Lots of people do. You are not alone. Be patient. Be consistent. And then, be patient again. LOL...you'll get there.

    Can’t make a decision

On the other hand, you can try sleeve, which as you say, is less invasive and has fewer malabsorption risks longterm....and see how it works. If it's not working, you can do a revision to DS. The majority of patients have very good luck with sleeve. it's a personal judgement call.
  12. This is a side effect of surgery I haven't heard discussed...but it's definitely something that has occurred for me...so wanted to talk about it with anyone who is willing. Don't mean to be graphic here...but I don't think it's just the extra confidence and improved body image that comes with weight loss. (in truth...there's a lot that's lookin a little saggy and comical these days...so there's a mixed bag of physical confidence.....and I've always had a great sex life with my hubby) No, what I'm talking about....is actual sex drive. Biochemical physical capacity. Not just more willingness to have or pursue sex....but more sensation. A deeper more spectacular orgasm. Does that make sense? I mean...they do kinda wind down a little as you get older. Still great...but not like when you were a kid. But lately, I feel like I'm revisiting that intensity.......from when we were young and crazy horny and an orgasm felt like a full sky grand finale of fireworks instead of a medium sized rocket and a couple of roman candles sputtering away at the end. The big ones are back. Layers of Kaboom so loud you feel them and the whole sky lights up, explodes..and twinkles. Honestly not meaning to write a sensational goofy post here. This is just a curious observation, and I'd like to know if other people are experiencing this? Have your orgasms gotten extra spectacular lately?
  13. People really need to stop obsessing about the minimal risks of surgery....and obsess more about the far more substantive risks they are taking by ignoring obesity related conditions. Great cautionary tale. Glad you're getting your surgery. Very smart move!

    Cream of Potato Soup

    I wouldn't worry about it:)

    Saginaw Michigan-Dr Ringley

I would ask Dr. Ringley if he's board certified in bariatric surgery, if his facility is a center of excellence, and how many bariatric surgeries he does each month.

    Smooth Move Tea- whoa boy!

it works terrific. But it is a gastric irritant and should be used only once in a great while. Should not be used for maintenance. It's active ingredient is senna leaves. Senna contains chemicals called sennosides. Sennosides irritate the lining of the bowel, which causes the laxative effect. Not sure irritating the lining of your gut is entirely wise after weight loss surgery long term. It's unclear whether its irritation could harm your incision margins. It is not recommended for people with ulcerative colitis. I have tried Smooth Move tea and found it very effective.....but because of it's route of action, I would use some caution about using it too often.

    Insurance denied ?

Sometimes there's some wild card arbitrary reason to delay or turn you down that turns up.... Rule's like.....The sixth months of monitored weight lost must be consecutive with no more than a 45 day gap between appointments....and you had a 47 day gap because of your doctor's vacation. Or..... We need you to have a 40+ BMI that has been documented for 2 years and we can't find a weight that high more than 18 months ago. Or.... We've recently changed our guidelines to eliminate two of the co-morbidities that you were counting on using. Stuff like that. It happens. Doctors will throw in additional tests for additional health issues, too. For some folks...it's a hold their breath situation until they're finally in the clear....because they've experienced being disappointed in the past.

    canceled surgery 3 times

It is NOT their job to stabilize your mental health enough to follow through with your commitments. That is YOUR job. You need to actively seek help and take care of these issues. What you are doing with surgery dates is not acceptable and soon your doctor will send you a letter saying you are no longer welcome as a patient. Mark my words on this. Actions have consequences. If you call the office tomorrow and explain you really need to seek some therapy first, and that your therapist will be in the loop when you're ready....they might continue to work with you. But at this point...you are going to burn your bridges.

    Taking meds

The day after surgery, we were allowed to swallow crushed pills in a spoonful of sugar free Cool Whip. I had good luck with this. Maybe ask your office if this is ok to try?

    canceled surgery 3 times

Ok....whew! Now.....let me try to be more constructive. Pull the plug on your surgery tomorrow...because waiting until the last minute is a hundred times more obnoxious. Then, schedule an appointment with a therapist. You need to address getting control of your eating habits and what might be causing your difficulty with indecision. Incidentally, indecision is a symptom of depression. If you have depression, it needs to be addressed. I really do wish you future success, but your attitude about jerking your healthcare providers around annoys me no end. Time to grow up a little and be responsible for what you commit to.

When you change your mind about major surgery at the last minute: 1. You are depriving other people of that surgery spot 2. You are creating endless paperwork for both your surgeon's office and your insurance. 3. You are behaving in the most self absorbed way imaginable and inconveniencing others. 4. None of your excuses for not following through hold water. You don't seem to care about how this effects anyone but you. Your behavior is unacceptable. I don't blame your surgeon at all for giving you a final warning.

    6 month check up today!

You are amazing Mike! Great work! You look fantastic:)
  23. Hubby, daugher, bestie:) And Mom...but mom makes me kinda crazy, too. LOL. Hubby and bestie are in the trenches with me, going for walks and crazy adventures. They are my rocks. Daughter calls from college, asks how things are going, says she's proud of me, is generally an awesome kid:) We have a standing date to "walk together" on the phone when she's on her way home to her apartment from campus. Mom is sweet...but dingy and can be a little bad to encourage me to eat stuff I shouldn't out of "kindness"...in her defense...when I say...Mom, what the hell? She goes...Oh Poop! I forgot! She doesn't mean to try to sabotage me....but it's her nature to feed people. LOL:)

What The? I Stopped Losing Weight!

I lose weight like Wile E. Coyote falling down a cliff. 3 week plateau....then BOOM 5-7 pounds gone overnight, practically. Then the next plateau. Been the way my body works pre-surg and post-surg. Some people just do this.
