TMI - liquid diet side affects?
Creekimp13 replied to Pink nova's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try just the shakes without the veggies and see if that settles things down. My bestie will poop her pants if she eats cucumber. I know this cause at restaurants she flings her cucumbers in my salad...cause I love them. Also...I've seen her do the mad dash after accidentally eating one on more than one occasion. Have you ever had a sensitivity to any of those veggies or whey? -
This might be a huge part of the problem. I wish your clinic did a better job. Well..if you can't get your guidance from your clinic, maybe try some of the books for folks who have had bariatric surgery? There are a bunch of them out there that might be really helpful to you. Wishing you the best.

Write out a list. Get ONLY what is on the list. Take an accountability buddy with you for support. Reward yourself when you're done with a non-food reward. (I like to wander over to cosmetics after the food shopping and get some cool new nail polish, or a bath bomb or some nice little indulgence. I also like to reward myself by doing a little clothes shopping, Doesn't have to break the budget....Even picking up some cute underwear or slipper socks...just some nice little reward for staying on track) Also...talk to your dietitian about this. And if you get a referral to a dietary therapist...make sure to go. They will have some awesome ideas and it just plain can't hurt:) Wishing you the best.

My group thinks exercise is so crucial to success, they write our exercise requirements on a prescription pad every time they see us.

Can the surgeon leave more of the stomach if requested with VSG surgery
Creekimp13 replied to JR15's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Frustr8...you are a certified nut. But every so often you make me giggle just by being you...and I'm always grateful for an unexpected grin. Keep being you. -
I think the big issue...is that you're getting so close to goal and as you get smaller your nutritional needs decrease. Also, as you get farther away from surgery, your restriction decreases a little, too...so it's easier to over eat. I know it's a pain in the ass to keep a food journal, but I think it'll be key to breaking your stall....it's so easy for extra calories to sneak into our diets when we're not paying super close attention. (and I know it gets old. I feel your pain) Also, I think when our bodies get used to exercises we've grown accustom to, it's hard to understand why it's not as effective as it used to be. Might be useful to measure your heart rate and push to get to cardio level for 30 minutes 3 times a week. When I was fifty pounds heavier it was SOOOOO much easier to get to cardio level. Now, I've really gotta push a little. Might make all the difference for you. Can't hurt to try, right? Wishing you the best.

Only lost 4.2 pounds one week post op, normal?
Creekimp13 replied to HopefullXOXOXO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Also keep in mind...with a starting weight of 235...you're not going to lose like the 600 pound people on TV. Adjust your expectations. If a 600 pound person loses 30 pounds the first month...a 200 pound person is gonna lose closer to 10 pounds the first month (on average) You've got 18 months to lose 85 pounds to reach your goal. You could lose 5 pounds a month...and handily get to goal. That in mind....work those healthy habits! And work on patience. You'll get there! -
Only lost 4.2 pounds one week post op, normal?

Try not to obsess about the scale (easier said than done, I know) Worry more about hitting fluid goals, protein goals, walking goals, getting good sleep at night and staying active. The number on the scale isn't the focus....creating solid lifetime habits and taking good care of yourself...is. If you get the habits right...the scale will follow:) Best wishes! -
Watch your calories....get them under 1200. Up your exercise and switch it up...if you do the same exercise all the time your body adapts and it's less effective. Throw in something completely new in your routine. Most of all...be patient, and stay the course. Stalls suck, but they're part of the game.

Critically important. The surgery fixes your stomach...not your head. If your head isn't straight you can easily make the surgery pointless.

What does "you'll be satisfied" mean to you?
Creekimp13 replied to sideeye's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, they bind together. Most of the time these days, I feel genuinely content after I eat my weird little meals. Content like I used to feel after a junk food party or Thanksgiving dinner. I think what happens...is that after enough experience with your restriction, your expectations change. I NEVER think....Man, I need a Big Mac and some fries...wouldn't it be nice if I could have that again? It doesn't interest me because it's wildly not possible. (and also...yuck...just doesn't appeal anymore) BUT...I do think about.... Man, when I get home, i'm gonna fix this particular meal that I love, I'm gonna eat my fill, it's gonna taste amazing....and I'll have a fun night. The other day I went to a Thai place. I ordered a cucumber salad and chicken satay...and it was incredible. I didn't feel cheated or sad about the meal. I felt empowered to find something healthy and delicious. And I enjoyed myself as much as I ever have at a restaurant. Your mindset changes. Your expectations change. Your preferences and tastes change. Whole lotta change going on. Give it a few months and let us know what you think the answer is to your question:) I'll be interested to know your thoughts in the fall. -

What does "you'll be satisfied" mean to you?
Creekimp13 replied to sideeye's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I kinda get what she means? Like when you're staring at a plate of something you know you LOVE (steak salad for instance...with nice rare sirloin and hard boiled eggs and swiss and balsamic and banana peppers and diced veggies and mushrooms)...and you've eaten several bites...enough that your stomach says you're done. Not one more bite....stop. And you do, because you have to, and you don't want to feel gross. But your head looks at that full plate and says....Wait a minute! I LOVE this meal. Why I am leaving most of it? And you feel a little....unsure how to feel about that. And putting the leftovers away in the fridge feels weird and foreign. OP...is that what you mean? If so...it gets better. You learn to adjust your serving sizes eventually. You learn to put food into storage containers first, and just put a little on your plate at a time. You come to accept that in the course of cooking a meal and tasting it and adjusting flavors....you might actually get too full to actually eat it. LOL You learn that left overs are awesome and that it's ok to eat them later. And you learn to do other stuff to fill that emotional need that food used to satisfy. It's a process....but you get there. -
History of failed weight loss
Creekimp13 replied to lizaelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it means....can you document that you've been seriously overweight for a number of years. Can you name some of the diets you've tried in the past. Sometimes insurance companies will turn down people who have been morbidly obese for less than two years. -

Interesting article

The part of this story that irritates me...is that these people waited through the line before being asked to try the "test seat" to see if they'd get the three clicks and fit safely. That test seat should be to the side of the line...so you can try it before waiting in line. This should be disclosed information. " You must be able to fit in this seat and get three click" to ride this ride. Would be very simple to do, and it would allow people to run their own test if they had any concerns before waiting in line. Notification signs....if you have a chest measurement of XXX...please try the test seat before waiting in line...would also be really helpful. I don't mind the mechanical limitations, but I'm irritated by the failure to disclose information and failure to provide customers the opportunity to try the seat before committing to the line. -

Personally? If I were spending my day providing free babysitting...I would expect the junk food to be put away on the days I was expected to stay there with the kids. They don't need to get rid of it....but they can put it away somewhere private and the kids don't have to eat it in front of you. While it's true that "they're not on a diet"....you are providing your family your support by babysitting... and you deserve to have that support returned. Also...if your grandbabies are blood related, they share your genetics. They might be skinny now, but that is no guarantee the genetics won't catch them later. I was a super skinny kid. It didn't last. LOL. It is never too early to teach healthy eating habits and good food choices. It is not too much to ask that the kids eat healthy with you while you're taking care of them. Health food never killed a kid yet. ALSO! Take those kids to the park and play. Grandma should chase the ball, swing on swings, play in the sandbox...get some exercise. There's a reason those little people are skinny...they're in constant motion. Play the games. Teach them hopscotch. If nothing else, walk laps while they play. Be inspired by their nonstop energy and join in:) -
Am so glad you got to the bottom of it. What a relief! Hope you feel better soon.
