    Happy Mothers Day!!

My mom, kiddo and myself did a three generation Mother's Day..... Vegas Style at the casino yesterday. Laughed our butt off and had fun. Was a nice day for a road trip. We were going to shop and do garage sales, but the 40 degree weather and ice cold rain inspired us to be naughty indoors instead. We had a blast. My brothers have plans with Mom tomorrow, and hubby and daughter are taking me to a Rent-a-horse place to go trail riding. Supposed to be a gorgeous day in the low 70's. Wishing all the moms a wonderful Mother's Day!

I fell off my wagon :/

Two really good pieces of advice. One screw up, one week of screw up....doesn't sabotage you. What sabotages you...are feelings of hopelessness and not getting up and doingyour best again. Rise to the setback. Keep fighting. You can do this. Wishing you the best.

    Sweetners

After sleeve most people can use any sweetener. I'm a sucralose fan (splenda). Real sugar is typically not a problem for people with sleeve...so you have to be careful with it because we don't really dump like people who have bypass. (Have heard that some people do, but it's much more rare in sleeve folks. I find that if I eat too much sugar I get kinda grossed out and need a glass of water.) No problems with sugar in milk and fruit. Avoiding refined sugar is very important...it's a slippery slope a lot of us have problems overindulging in...and most refined sugar products are slider foods, so they'll feel comfortable going down eventually....so you have to use some discipline to avoid getting in trouble with them. Some programs limit carbs....and nearly all programs limit or eliminated refined carbs. Pretty much any of the artificial sweeteners...and the natural ones like stevia and monk fruit are ok.

    MattyMatt...are you out there?

I am so sorry, Matty. Was very unlike you to go missing and had me worried. Please take care of yourself and keep us in the loop when you are able. Sending good vibes and wishes for healing. They'll get it figured out...I'm sure they will. So sorry you have to go through this, though. Hang in there.
  5. Mother's Day around dinner time....hmmmmm. Kinda poor timing.

No worries. I promise it gets better:) You're almost to the fun part.

    Same weight as pre-op

Yup...and salt in the broth will make you retain water a little.

    soooooo thirsty

If I were you...I would err on the side of drinking extra water for hydration until you can discuss your thirst with your doctor. At a week out...I was told it was ok to drink all the water I wanted as long as I was sipping and not gulping. You may need extra water in that heat.

    soooooo thirsty

If you're getting 64 ounces in per day, that's good...you might need more fluids if it's very hot there. You should ask about this. When is your next recheck with labs? Are you diabetic, by any chance?
  10. Creekimp13

    soooooo thirsty

How many ounces of fluids per day total are you drinking?
  11. These are great questions for your doctor. You could also phone a medical marijuana dispensary.

    soooooo thirsty

You should be drinking 64 ounces a day. 4 ounces of fluid per HOUR. I think you have misunderstood your post surgical instructions and are getting yourself DANGEROUSLY dehydrated. Please seek help with urgent care immediately, or at the very least, start drinking 4 ounces of liquid per hour every single hour. If you have an emergency number, call it and ask for clarification.
  13. Reading about bariatric surgery on the net.....reminds me a lot of reading about homeschool on the net. There are a lot of parallels. Both are often considered extreme solutions that are not widely accepted by the people who could utilize them. Proponents tend to be very polarized in their views. Critics, too. There's a lot of ignorance in public perception, and a lot that could be done to help demystify the process....but people tend to be kinda closeted about what they're doing.....particularly people who have a more moderate experience and are not balls to the wall aggressive about pursing their goals. Most of the people who are making a lot of noise in both communities...are having a lot of success and it's working for them. They are also very driven to particular lofty goals. (think...the homeschool parents who MUST send their kid to an Ivy League school) People who are having more moderate success...tend to be quieter, and disappear from communities shortly after they arrive. Their stories are not as big a part of the public discussion. And it's a shame....because those voices represent far more people than the louder folks who push themselves to extremes. It's sad because it creates insanely unrealistic and competitive standards and less room for honesty, vulnerability and support. Do I blame them for leaving? Nope. (and incidentally, I know I've done very well statistically so far...and I know I've been enthusiastic and loud about it...I'm not innocent of the very thing I'm complaining about...I'm just trying to become more aware) I think we can do better to honor the experiences of all involved....and help create a more realistic, inclusive, WHOLE picture of the process and various results of all community members. Voices that embrace balance, moderation and acceptance of multiple different approaches and success levels....get silenced in favor of sports metaphors, "winners", "what works the fastest" and obsessive perfectionism. This concerns me on a lot of levels. At least there are no kids involved here.
  14. I really thought I could just bite my tongue on this thread and let it go. God knows I've tried. But I'm gonna open my mouth again...LOL. *sigh* About 80% of us...will lose about half (or a little more than half) of our excess weight and keep it off for five years. If we do this in the bariatric surgery world....we are considered successful. A very small percentage of us will lose over 80% of their excess body weight. And an even smaller number will hit goal. About 20% of us....one in five people on here....won't even lose 50% of our excess weight. We will "fail" This is just factual. "Should we accept our best shot and not be bothered if we don't make goal?" Yes...because accepting reality is important and healthy. If we are doing our best...that's really all we can do. Our best...by definition...is our best. There are plenty of people who do their absolute best and want it so badly they'd sell a kidney for it......who never make goal. But the vast majority of us significantly improve and the improvements last. And that's huge. And worth celebrating. Perfection be damned. Obesity is complex and people are affected by surgery in vastly different ways. People's individual physiology, heredity, health, natural set point, chronic conditions, necessary medications, hormones, and a dozen other factors play a part in how successful they are. A few of us WILL be wildly successful. (lookin at Jenn, jess, mike, etc....lol) MOST of us will land on one side or the other of losing 60% of our excess weight. And a few of us won't ever lose 50% of our excess weight...even if we try very hard. I'm not suggesting that there is no room for improvement. Or that we shouldn't try, accept help, keep trying hard to optimize our results. I'm just sayin....the facts are what they are. Reality is part of the equation. No amount of "not accepting less" can help in some cases. Sometimes you're dealt the cards you're dealt. I'm not pissing on anyone's hopes and dreams or disrespecting their input by pointing to these statistical facts and ask that everyone's experience be respected. I genuinely hope that every person here makes the goals they wish... and has lasting results. But in the much more likely eventuality that we end up being a wide spectrum of successes....I think it's important to honor all outcomes,

    Woot! Nice work!
  16. Had mine out 15 years ago. Have never missed it:) Some folks will have sensitivities and issues digesting certain things after losing their gallbladder. I didn't. Noticed very little difference at all. But yeah, bigtime....gallbladder stones and kidney stones are very common problems after bariatric surgery. Gotta keep an eye out for both. Ruptured gallbladders can be fatal. Liver infections and Pancreatitis resulting from a chronic gallbladder issue can be life threatening, too. Very important to get your follow up labs done, and not ignore new symptoms.

    just lost my lunch

Soup snatcher! Hey, it's healthy! Way to be a good example, Mom:)
  18. I didn't gain much of anything, but I think what saved me...was walking like a maniac. I walked like crazy and peed like crazy. Another thought....I had zero nausea. From the time I woke up I was begging for ice chips and wanted to drink. Every ounce they let me drink I was in heaven. Tiny little sips...but I drank everything they allowed me to drink and had no issues at all. I also elected to take as little of the pain meds as they allowed. (they did talk me into one dose before sleeping) Maybe some of these things effected the volume of fluids I was given? Also...if you take blood pressure meds or diuretics or a few other meds and have them discontinued just for surgery...that can cause a lot of water retention.

    I confess....2018

I confess....my plans changed today and I ended up doing something extremely naughty. My kiddo and I wanted to go to garage sales and plant shopping today, but it started raining and got really cold out (40's)... and my mother dropped over unexpectedly for coffee right when the kid came home.....so instead of shopping, we took a three generation spontaneous road trip to the casino and celebrated Mother's Day early...Vegas Style. Yes, I know...I am mommy of the year... *sigh* But we had fun, dammit. We each took $40 in. Three hours of entertainment later....Kiddo got out of the casino with $60. I got skunked and made it out with $15. And my mom was the big winner, escaping the casino with $100. My mom likes to play the games. We humor her. It's also funny as hell to watch all the old people hitting on each other during the day.

  22. I had two five pound months.....then, this month, had a ten pound month. It's crazy. Stay the course:)
  23. My kiddo is working for a few hours Saturday morning, so she gets out of work at 1pm today, and I take Friday afternoon off, routinely....so we get to go have fun in a bit:) We're gonna hit some garage sales and check the home improvement stores for more varieties of herbs for our new herb garden:) We'll prolly pop into Kohl's cause we've got a good Mother's Day coupon. We've got a movie picked out for tonight, and will make protein pasta, salad and whole grain garlic bread. Yasso bars and frult salad for dessert/snacking with the movie. On Friday nights...we indulge a little:)
