Reality: Even with the risks associated with sleeve....staying fat is much more dangerous and more likely to kill you.

Past few weeks my wedding ring has gone from "loose"...to "way too freakin loose"....to "Ok, that time It missed being lost forever by inches" Had a jeweler fit it with a resizing wire, but think I'm gonna have to get a bit cut out of it eventually. What a weird unexpected problem. Who knew? If your wedding ring starts to get loose? Pay attention and get it fixed...my jeweler said more people lose wedding rings after bariatric surgery than you can imagine.

Super simple...don't sweat it! You likely won't remember much and the whole procedure takes around half an hour....it's not bad at all. I woke up and my hubby took me to lunch. Was an easy kinda fun day:)
-
Woke up with one on. Took it off immediately. Hated it. Nurses said that it was for comfort only, and that I didn't have to wear it. I walked miles and had very little pain. Binder stayed in hospital room while I was roaming the ward:)

The average result of gastric sleeve....is a 60% loss of your excess weight in 18 months. Some people do a lot better. Some do worse. You get out of it what you put into it.

Hardest Part (outside of eating)
Creekimp13 replied to Defincupark's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hardest part: realizing that getting thinner doesn't solve all my problems. Does it help? yes...my health is SO much better! But there are more issues that need to be addressed that were easy to ignore when the weight was always the priority. Figuring out healthy coping mechanisms. Recognizing and avoiding a return of bad eating behaviors. This is the real work as the honeymoon ends and real life continues. There will always be rough patches. Finding your way through them without food to lean on....has some tricky spots. -

Protein Powders and Appliances
Creekimp13 replied to Laura7's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Use my Nutri Bullet daily. It does shakes, smoothies, batter for protein pancakes, grinds the ginger and garlic in marinades, makes amazing salad dressings....it's just wonderful for stuff you need blended super fine. I have a small InstaPot that I use for quick tender chicken breast from frozen. Doesn't take long! I got an air fryer for Christmas but it is more hype than help in my kitchen. Lately...I'm loving the outdoor grill:) Marinade and grill season...hook me up! (Try salmon on the grill..yum!) -
Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!

For defects in workmanship and materials.....I can see how you'd justify that. I bought a $200 Columbia Coat and the zipper broke the first week I had it. I wrote them an email with photos and they sent me a replacement, an apology, and a free postage return box. Good customer service! I was going to pay someone to put in a new zipper...was really glad not to have to. Like Ash said, though, it annoys the hell out of me when people actually USE clothes and return them. Not only does it make the full price merchandise lower quality, the rest of us have to foot the bill for the losses and the hassle. Be classy and considerate and use returns sparingly....so a great return policy is there when you really need it:) -

I love Kohls. I love that they offer no hassle returns, awesome discounts and Kohl's Cash. I always feel like I get out of there for a fair price. I don't have any issue with taking things back that don't work out......But there is no way I'd take something back to a store that I'd worn (other than trying it on). If you wear it...it's yours. Hell, I think if you take the tags off, it's yours. If you wash it, it's most certainly yours. Just cause you can....doesn't mean you should. If a store plays fair, customers should, too. -
Shaving prior to surgery
Creekimp13 replied to Brewer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your legs are a non-issue. Don't worry about it at all. -
Go to therapy. it's what it's there for. Get a little help with grief and dealing with your feelings about falling off the diet wagon so to speak. It can't hurt, and it might help a lot. Best wishes.

Why is it that we can no longer for the rest of our lives drink carbonated drinks or carbonated water like Perrier?
Creekimp13 replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We all know about the warnings. Most folks who have actually researched it know that most of the warnings...stretching, etc.... are kinda....lacking....in facts and evidence. A lot of people do have the occasional carbonated beverage. The world will probably not end. I think the big taboo around them with doctors and nutritionists has more to do with the fact that they are empty calories and habit forming. They're just not generally a good choice. Sugary pop, beer, wine coolers.....tons of calories, and little nutrition. Bad habits. But no...doctors have actually looked at the sleeve diameter of people who have been wildly successful and who have failed terribly...a year or two out.....and there's really no difference. Even if they've been drinking soda. The difference is new dietary habits and new exercise habits. What destroys people's efforts isn't the carbonation.....it's the sugar and calories. Carbonated beverages are a gateway to screwing up your diet, rebound hunger, and a return to old habits. -

Another tip.... look for consignment stores that will sell your bigger stuff and give you store credit for littler stuff. There are adult versions of Plato's Closet out there if you look:) -
Did anyone else’s doctor tell them a pre-op diet is not necessary?
Creekimp13 replied to Elle_Woods's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doctors are all over the map with the presurg liver shrink diet. Some do two weeks, some three, some a couple days, some do none at all. Some do protein drinks only, some do skim milk, some do a couple shakes with one veggie and protein meal...it's kinda crazy. Mine did two weeks of five shakes...then, prescription shakes the last five days...and finally, we had to chug a massive amount of white grape juice the night before surgery! They're all different and weird. Who knows why? Could be a difference of equipment, restraint technique, surgical strategy...who can say? I will say that the two weeks of mind games giving up food and switching to shakes prepared me well for the shock of not being able to eat for weeks. I think maybe it's a good idea to give people an escape hatch if they're not truly committed. The liver shrink thing...does make sense...and I'm all for getting every safety advantage possible. (though, I would not say that surgeons who operate without the diet are necessarily unsafe) Pick someone good....and trust their judgement. Best you can do. -
I hated the binder and ditched it as soon as I got to my hospital room. Nurses said it was for my comfort, so I could get rid of it if I wanted to. Felt better without it. Massive bruising wouldn't concern me....because the shots that prevent clots can leave some incredible purple blooms. But swelling and bulges...I'd probably tell my surgeon's office about. Congrats on being on the other side. Best wishes!

Congratulations! Every day gets a little better:) You're on your way. Woot!

Maybe time to see your gynecologist. If you're a little anemic from surgery and have some fibroids, they might be having a hard time stopping bleeding. Irregular bleeding is pretty common the first month after surgery, but if it persists, particularly if you have a history of irregularities, it's a good idea to get checked out. Better to be safe. One of my primary reasons for finally doing this surgery, was a few months of prolonged spotty irregular bleeding...that resulted in a uterine biopsy and endometrial cancer scare. Biopsy was ok, and a D and C got things back on track...but when my doctor said being overweight put me much more at risk....it hit home that I needed to do something. (Not meaning to freak you out here....and it's most likely the surgery throwing you some hormonal curve balls...but it's worth staying on top of) Maybe schedule a gyne appointment in a month and see if things don't straighten up on their own. You can always cancel if they do...and if they don't, you'll be ready to see the doctor?

Protein bars are a huge slider for me. And it sucks, cause I love them. Had to put a hard limit on protein bars of three a week...cause sometimes I'm not that interested in cooking or assembling something healthy and it's just too easy to pick the delicious double chocolate answer. (and then pick it again a few hours later). I know that if I eat food with texture, I'll stay fuller longer. Want to get fiber, work on staying off supplements and crap, eat real food..... Need to keep up good habits...so I limit protein bars now. (Still keep one in my purse always) Oatmeal is a slider for me unless I make it pretty stiff, do steel cut oats, and put cherries and pecans in it. If I do my delux super oatmeal...it doesn't slide so much:) Same with refried beans...if I add the cheese and salsa and avocado and junk...I stay full. By themselves, they slide a little...but not as bad as other things. Yogurt with fruit, nuts and whole grain granola...same. Lot of soups slide...which stinks, because I love soup. My veggie soup doesn't slide so much. Split pea and bean soups are pretty decent to keep you full, too. Nuts are delicious and naughty. I love them and I eat them daily, but portion control sucks with nuts. SO densely caloric! I measure nuts in Tablespoons. And those suckers slide like crazy by themselves.
