    this is support?!

I really like the Mayo Clinic diet. Mason jar salads are my go-to for work lunches: https://www.buzzfeed.com/carolynkylstra/mason-jar-salads?utm_term=.ouMPZYqa0d#.buyv0YWnG7 One way hubby and I compromise on junk food...he is only allowed to bring things into the house that I genuinely don't like. LOL. All other junk had to be consumed at work. (Rumor has it, he has ice cream for lunch a lot) I'm not a fan of certain types of cookies and treats he likes...so those are the ones I'll pick up for him....ones I kinda...hate. Apples are wonderful things. With peanut butter, they're even better. If you have a fridge at work, keep cheese sticks, baby bellas, yogurt, single serving cottage cheese. Also keep low sugar oatmeal packets, sugar free pudding, and anything else you can find that's either low glycemic or high protein. Fruit and veggies are good food. Rediscover hard boiled eggs. Switch your bread to low gycemic options...pumpernickel, whole grain, sourdough...and cut your bread in half if you can. Try high protein wraps. Experiment with chia seed pudding, avacado toast, and homemade protein packs with nuts and cheese and dried fruit. Try several different protien shakes and bars....try for low sugar and high protein. See if you can get a metabolic test to get a true idea of your body fat and set a reasonable calorie goal. if you shoot too low, you'll cheat. Don't cheat...start working on a forever diet you can live with:)

    Drinking

Six months is the recommendation at my group, but the overwhelming advice it to avoid it permanently. I know some people do continue to drink after six months, but alcohol will feel different...both in absorption rate and the way it's digested. It might cause you problems, so approach reintroduction very cautiously.

4 month Post Op at a Stall

wadeswife...you've lost 75 pounds in 4 months. I think you should eat more so you feel better:) While rapid weight loss is common for people who weigh more....at this point, you should be slowing down....and your body is trying to tell you that. Eating too few calories can actually cause a stall when your body starts to think it's starving. Eat well, stay healthy and when you feel better, add some exercise!

    Favorite Recipes!

I craved Ginger Peach Chicken. Pound of chicken breast, cut into bite sized pieces....sauteed in olive oil and salt and pepper Add: 1/2 cup of diced green peppers 2 Tablespoons of grated fresh ginger root 2 cans of peaches in natural juice (drain most of juice and keep it in fridge or smoothies) 2 Tablespoons Splenda (or sweeten to your preference) 2 Tablespoons corn starch in 2 Cups of cold chicken broth let this simmer until it reduces and the juice thickens. Serve a cup of it over a quarter cup of brown rice
  6. Well done, KryCar:) Best wishes on a rapid recovery and a very successful outcome!

    scared

I think getting to the bottom of your abnormal ferritin level is the priority. Get that resolved and go from there. One thing at a time:) Wishing you the best no matter what.

    Snacks

We are told to have three meals and three snacks....and it should all balance out to 1000-1200 calories per day and 60-80grams of protein. So, six times a day, I eat about 150-200 calories. I'm never hungry...it's a lot of food:) As our stomachs stretch a bit and can tolerate a larger meal months down the road, we'll decrease snacks to 100 calories, and up meals to 300 calories. Eventually, we may eliminate snacks.

    Time to start losing weight

I don't get along well with Keto. I did Mayo Clinic diet during my 6 months and lost 30 pounds:) It's very similar to Mediterranean...which is the diet of the people who live the longest on the planet, and have the lowest rates of cancer and heart disease. There are a lot of ways to customize your diet to your goals. I like slow steady weight loss and I want a Forever Diet that is balanced and includes most foods. Some folks prefer rapid weight loss, and Keto certainly accomplishes that. Best wishes whatever you decide:) Lots of roads up this mountain!

    Got Bad News

LOL:) Takes all kinds to make a world. My bad. Enjoy:)
  12. I had sleeve and hernia repair. The shoulder pain was the worst part...but it wasn't too bad. Tylenol helps. And heat pads. But mostly tincture of time. I'm 8 weeks post op...no pain anymore. Good luck, everyone.

    Sugar Free Chocolate Jello

It depends on your surgeon and your plan, Peaches. Read the instructions you were given or give the office a call. With my plan, I drank 5 premier protein shakes a day, and was allowed to have one serving of an item on a short list of things. Sugar free pudding was one of them. But that was it for the day. Shakes and one pudding. Some people get shakes for two meals and a meal of veggies and protein. Some people just get shakes. Depends on your program and your doctor.
  15. After surgery, I was told to discontinue my diuretic and blood pressure pills. Was told to take my blood pressure daily and to call the office if it went above 160 on top or 90 on the bottom. It never did. Just took it, and it's 124/82...with no meds. Feeling pretty excited about that:) I also went off my bupropion after surgery and haven't felt the need to restart it. All I'm taking now is thyroid (which I will forever) and Omeprazole...which we were asked to take for three months after surgery to help with healing. And of course, my vitamins. Multi, Calcium Citrate with D, More D, B-12 and B-50 complex. Anyone else getting excited to be off some of their meds?

    Got Bad News

Not stalking you, Peaches, just getting a chuckle out of all your creative writing:) Enjoyed it. Your links provided further entertainment. (Particularly the comments on your fundraising page) Best wishes with your liquid diet....its tough. Take it a day at a time. When you broadcast "for the world to watch" about your last appointment...I would be very careful about accusing your doctor of calling you degrading names. If you're not being 100% truthful, you might find yourself facing a slander suit.

    Got Bad News

Peaches also works in the entertainment industry...and is also a doctor who writes for medical journals. Peaches also works for the State of New York Health Department. She has done a lot of interesting things in her life. Peaches January 21: "I am the number 1 Dance Music Promoter. I have documented my journey, have done live videos and am incredibly honest with my artists, the industry and the fans. They are following me every step of the way. I figured I could be honest or risk having untruth's and rumors written about me." Peaches January 26: " I can give you reading material from medical journals should you like, many written by myself being an expert on the subject having worked for the NYS Department of Health dealing with this very issues and writing policy for over 20 years." Peaches January 26: "Actually, my personal reason for gaining weight is that I am a 9/11 First Responder who is on massive amounts of medications and recently had an increase in steroids which increased my weight which was verified with my Pulmonary Doctor. " Contrast this with: Peaches January 25: "I have had many food funerals. Heck. More than I can count (damn you chicken wings!) . I know I gained weight. Will that change anything?"

    Endoscopy?

Almost everyone will feel nearly 100% within an hour of waking up....but there are a certain percent of folks who get really disoriented and foggy for a while. On the off chance that you're one of those people....an attendant is a really good idea.

    Where is my period?

Mine got delayed 2 weeks the first month....then showed up on schedule the second month. Major surgery messes with menstruation.

    Strawberries allowed? 8 weeks post-op

I've heard that they should be avoided in the early days because the seeds could irritate the healing suture line or get caught. 8 weeks out, I'm sure you're safe. I eat them pretty regularly now. I'm about 8 weeks, too. They don't cause me any problems. If you want to be extra safe, pour your smoothy slowly and discard the last couple of tablespoons....most of the seeds gather at the bottom.
  22. The NSAIDS are tricky because there is mixed information out there. Universally, though, there seems to be a consensus that using them as a maintenance med won't work due to possible ulcers. My doc did say that if we took an antacid like Tums just before a dose of ibuprophen, we could still use it sparingly. I brought up the example that I've used it a couple days a month for menstruation, and he said that was fine...but to take the Tums before I took it. XYZ...Good advice to check with your doctor about it. So far, I've had good luck switching to Tylenol.

    Menopause Triggered?

Menopause is a pain no matter when it strikes. The changes can be challenging. Might just be total coincidence. Your age is right...had to happen sometime. Wishing you the best:)
