    Why did I gain weight

    Don’t let it get to you! Happened to me and I was also very careful to follow doctor’s orders. You have swelling, bloating, etc. let your body settle down a bit and I’m sure things will begin moving in the right direction again. Try to get your water in...very important! It’s all going to be just fine!

    carbonated drinks

    Was a Diet Coke junkie for years but gave it up 1.5 years ago and never regretted it. That stuff isn’t good for us anyway, but I️ have to admit I️ get the craving now and then. I’m three months post-op and try to stick to plain water or Crystal Light. My DIL is one year post-op and she occasionally drinks a Pepsi with no issues.
  3. Between the time I first met with my surgeon and the time his office submitted to insurance, I lost so much weight and my BMI disqualified me. However, they are supposed to use your starting BMI, plus I had co-morbidities. My doctor wrote one appeal letter and they approved it. It makes no sense to have to regain weight to qualify, but insurance is a business and they don’t want to pay without a fight. Find out what your appeal rights are. So frustrating., but don’t give up! Wishing you luck!

    Number 2 problem

    You aren’t going #2 because you have no food going in. You can do Milk of Magnesia or Miralax, but the only thing that will really work is when you are able to get more food in. And drink your water! The constipation was the worst part of the process.
  5. I️ was sleeved 8/24 like you and have lost 36.5 pounds since then, but lost 50 prior to surgery. I had a total of 100 pounds to lose and I’m already very close. My loss each week is only between 1-3 pounds but I’m perfectly fine with that as long as I’m going down! Good luck!
  6. Your fatigue is very normal. You had major surgery! Be kind to yourself and you’ll start feeling stronger. You can have yogurt. Greek yogurt (watch the sugar content) is your best friend right now because of its protein. Good luck!
  7. A couple of things I learned after my surgery on 8/24/17... Sometimes, the hunger pains aren’t actually from hunger, but from thirst. Make sure you are getting enough clear liquids, but take small sips over a period of time, not big swallows. That hurts! Try to remember, your surgeon removed 80 percent of your stomach through a very small incision, so pain is normal. Really normal. I had more than a few “What the heck was I thinking?” moments for the first few weeks after surgery. Why did I even do this? My recovery was hampered by an extended hospital stay and extreme blood loss resulting in transfusions and major weakness and fatigue. Also, don’t worry if you can’t get all your food in right away. You’ll be able to eventually. Take baby steps! More important to get your liquid in at first. I’m three months out now and although I get full super quickly, I feel great and am pretty much eating a regular diet. It’s definitely a process. Good luck, everyone! You’ve got this!
  8. Although I know it’s hard, try not to obsess over the scale. For the first week after surgery, I weighed myself every day and there would often be fluctuations of 1-2 pounds. My nutritionist asked me to either throw away the scale or at a minimum, promise to only weigh once a week. I usually weigh myself only on Friday mornings, first thing, and sometimes I don’t at all for a couple of weeks. My sleeve surgery was August 24, 2017. High weight was 268 and today I am down to 186. Lost quite a bit pre-op. You’ll do great! Good luck to you!

    Vitamins

    My surgeon recommended Flintstones Complete. I take two a day. The Bariatric vitamins didnt’t agree with me so I’ve been doing the Flintstones for three months and my test results have been great!
