Liquids for a day or two, then mushy food and then slowly try regular foods and see how it goes.

Thank you I will check it out.

First fill done!!! I went in this morning. I had 3.8 cc's put in and feel pretty good. It didn't hurt but I was so nervous...went very quickly. I haven't had a thing to eat all day and was okay til about an hour ago and now my stomach is growling. I guess I will go for a shake and see if that puts an end to the rumbling in my tummy.

My thoughts of my hospital stay as a more averaged sized person (not lapband surgery)
Insky67 replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What a great experience to share with us. It's funny how little things like that gown can make us feel, but those feelings are so real. Congrats on your weight loss and hard work! Robin -
Air Force Wife here. We are stationed at MacDill AFB here in Tampa, Florida. I can't believe you only have liquid diet for one day. Mine was two weeks...did they talk to you about the dangers of a "fatty liver?" Congrats on your approval, isn't it exciting? Robin

Tricare Prime Approved!!...But Outpatient Surgery??
Insky67 replied to Mommie_of_4's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am tricare prime south. I had no trouble getting approved and when the ball started rolling it actually went very quickly. My surgeon told me to get the pysch eval and told me what docs she would accept it from, I called tricare told them and they gave me the referral. I had my EKG, Blood work, Chest Xray all done by my PCM's office. I did not need to see a nutrionalist. I also had an over night stay. If you want to talk to me about it more you can email me at RobinNGabster@aol.com. I'm 40 days post-op now and down 42 pounds. Good luck with your surgery and please feel free to email me any questions. Robin -
Day Prior to surgery...
Insky67 replied to MyMeshelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just in no way ready for food yet. I had a very painful recovery and took everything very slowly. My doc recommends the two weeks of liquids so your stomach doesn't have to work on digesting so much while it is healing. It all made sense to me. I went from clear liquids to then full liquids which could include pudding and jello. -
Day Prior to surgery...
Insky67 replied to MyMeshelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It amazes me how different each doctor is. My doctor explained that the pre-op diet is not so much for you to lose weight before surgery but to shrink your liver. The liver gets in the way when they are placing the band and if they knick it...it can be bad news. Most people who are over weight have what they call a "fatty liver'...the pre-op diet will shrink it and reduce your chance of it getting in the way and getting damaged. When the band is placed it is normally put in EMPTY. For the first week you may not be hungry cause you will have some swelling but when that goes down you will be hungry because the band is empty and you have no restriction. Did you go to any WLS seminars? I would highly recommend it...they are almost always free and very informative. I was on liquids for two weeks after surgery and then was able to move up to mushy foods but it was tough. Had to be very careful or they would make me sick and vomit. I would say the first four weeks are tough, the liquid stage is not always fun, especially when you want real food. But everyone some how gets thru it....you will too. -
Day Prior to surgery...
Insky67 replied to MyMeshelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before my surgery. I was also on a pre-op diet for two weeks prior to surgery. Two protein shakes a day and for dinner I could have fish or chicken and one green veggie. Are you on a pre-op diet? -
Everyone loses weight differently...I am sticking with a low carb diet and exercising.

It certainly is not the easy way out. My surgery was very painful, most people have little to no pain...I was the exception. It's been a hard 39 days for me but it is working. I have lost 42 pounds and I see light at the end of this tunnel. Congrats on making this decision, I wish you lots of sucess and pretty skinny clothes in the near future! Robin

Have you gotten a fill yet? I am 39 days post-op and get my first fill tomorrow. I have lost 42 pounds but these past two weeks I have had to be very disciplined cause I am so hungry...I really need that fill. Are you drinking with your meals? Are you doing this low carb? What does your doc say about your weight loss?

Does Anyone Eat Full Fat Products Such As
Insky67 replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Rugman that is a great explanation. It was always my understanding too that you either diet low fat or low carb but you can't do both. I notice when I look for products low in fat they are high in carb. So for me I do low carb. And it is also what my doc recommended for me. -
require to lose weight before surgery
Insky67 replied to tigereyegreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was put on a pre-op diet and my doc said the weight I lost before surgery would not affect my insurance paying for surgery. That they report my starting weight when I first went to the doc. The idea of the diet was to shrink my liver, it can get in the way of the surgery process and the last thing you want it for your liver to get cut or in the way. I found the pre-op diet to be easy...it was only for two weeks. I had two shakes in the day and a light dinner of chicken or fish and one green veggie. This was much easier than the WEEKS of liquids you have to be on after the surgery. You can do it. -
What an A$$!!! I am so sorry you went thru this. It just makes me sooo mad that a person calling himself a DOCTOR can treat a person this way. I think you should have socked him in the gut and walked out. I don't know why we think we have to put up with this kind of stuff just cause this person is a doctor. It is your body and you deserve to be treated with respect and kindness! I am a firm believer in "What goes around comes around" and one day he will get his. I am glad it all turned out better in the end...try and let go of that bad experience and make sure you report him! I would post his name all over the net so any time somebody googled him this story would pop up. Robin

My Mom was always on me to stand up straight. I was always very thin and very tall and slouched a lot. I have found now that I have lost some weight and am looking better I automaticly stand up straighter...the straighter I am the flatter my belly looks and I like that.

Well tomorrow is my first fill. I am a little nervous. I am not worried about it hurting but I am worried about being tight and food getting stuck. I had another episode where 2 bites of toast got stuck...and I had my first experience with "slime." I fully understand why it is called slime now....ewwwww it was gross! It has been 39 days since my surgery and I am not teeting between 40 and 42 pounds lost. It just depends on what time of day I get on the scale. 12 of those pounds I lost on the pre-op diet. I have gone from a size 22-24 to an 18 and the 18's are a little loose...I hope 16's are right around the corner. The past two weeks have been hard cause I am feeling hungry all the time, my stomach is always growling. I have had to be very disciplined about eating...it would be very easy to do since I have no restriction. Thank goodness I have been able to stay strong and hold on til I get this fill, I am looking forward to not feeling hungry. I hate waking up in the middle of the night to hunger pains. I will try to remember to update after my fill. Wish me luck!!

Yippeeee! Yahooooo~! Way to Go!!!! This is the fill you needed....it will be all down hill from here! Congrats, I am so happy for you!

I have the realize band too and my doc hasn't said anything about doing fills sooner with that band. I am confused and don't know what difference it makes what band you have...I thought the waiting period was just for healing. I get first fill July 15. I guess I wonder now...if people are having fills in just a few weeks are they already eating regular food too?

Papaya enzyme is also supposed to work. You can get it at GNC and it is a chewable. Tastes pretty good and is better than the meat tenderizer my doc recommened for this kind of problem.

Guess I should update this blog. It will be one month tomorrow since I had the lap band surgery. I wish I could say it has been a piece of cake (lol) but it hasn't. Each day gets better but it was a slow healing process for me. My pain is all gone, incisions healed and I have lost 34 pounds. 12 of that was pre-op diet weight loss. I am on the mushy stage and hate it. I am so bored with mushy foods. I had one incident of being "stuck" Oh Lordy! That was crazy painful! Enough to make me very careful from now on. I had decided one day I would just take a bite of pizza. Yikes! It was too soon and I didn't chew it well enough. I am scheduled for my first fill on July 15th. For days now I have been saying I didn't think I needed it yet but today I changed my mind. I feel hungry...all the time now. So I must be due for that fill! For the longest time I couldn't see any light at the end of this tunnel but now I can. It's flickering but I know it is there. I look forward to the day when I can eat what I want and in just much smaller portions and less often. I also look forward to being healthier. I am using a treadmill every day now and just yesterday I was able to run on it...I haven't run since I was a kid. Good things are happening!

Well congrats on your first fill. Don't ya just love it when the office staff tries to stick ya with "surprise" costs!!!
