What type of foods are you eating? Dry foods? Taking small bites and chewing lots?
-
I don't even bake for me let alone anyone else a cook or baker I am not, not something I have ever enjoyed. That makes it easy on me when it comes to treats, cakes etc. Does your family include children? How old are they? Old enough to be baking? Perhaps teach them to bake some of the family favourites and they can do the treat baking.

Exercise post-op
Hop_Scotch replied to PCOS_Mama94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's going to take some time to return to your prior fitness/strength. Maybe you need to back of a little even more..you are not going to achieve what you used to right off. -
Do you mean immediately following surgery or a long time after the surgery?

Hop_Scotch replied to Peggy Schutzius's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Is the surgeon saying they won't operate because you are aged 70 and will only operate if you are aged 65 or under? -
Surgeon's advice after vomiting

I found chewable vitamins easier to deal with if I just let them dissolve in my mouth. -

No idea if the concept is real or not, but... https://mexicobariatriccenter.com/pouch-test-to-test-your-pouch-size/ -
My feeling is for the first few months follow your surgeon's and dietician's guidelines. From there once you've transitoned to solid foods you can work what works for you to lose weight (I wish we could talk about fat instead of weight) in a healthy way. In saying that, there are is a varitey advice from surgeons and dieticians...but none that recommends eating what you like three days out...please anyone who is new to this site or weight loss surgery...please disregard the approach of eating what you like three days out! There are medical reasons for not doing this. Your stomach healing is at risk, and just because one person didn't experience complications from eating 'what they liked' doesn't mean you won' t.

Dr says no more protein shakes
Hop_Scotch replied to soulfiremama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say this surgeon seems more concerned with results on the scale than the health of the patients. We eat little enough already in the first few months following WLS, but one small meal day is a disaster in the making, it isn't sustainable and setting patients up for failure. They will battle fatigue, hunger, muscle wastage, greater hair loss, vitamin and mineral deficiency (if not supplementing to the nth degree) etc etc -
Not losing anything??
Hop_Scotch replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls are not unheard of here. they are really common and to be expected with weight loss surgery. So tell us a little more about you (it would really help if you filled in your profile...height, start weight, current weight, surgery or procedure)... Have you lost 26lb since surgery , since before pre-op surgery...lost more but gained weight since surgery? -
Distraction can work well for me. Do something that occupies your mind and hands...knitting, puzzles etc. Even going for a short 15 minute walk, if at work, go talk to someone instead of sending an email.

I agree with Lizonaplane, you are very close to a a healthy weight for your height, weight loss is going to be lower and slower for you now, much patience will be needed. The weight loss you are achieving is actually really good as this point and at your weight.

I had VSG on a Wednesday morning and drove for 15minutes on the Saturday (airport to home), I had no need to drive after that for two weeks (covid quarantine for two weeks as I missed a deadline to return to my home state, not that I would have driven much in those couple of weeks if I hadn't been in quarantine). There was some mild discomfort but no more than sitting on the plane for a couple of hours. I felt a lot worse getting in and out of bed. I hadn't had any painkillers since the Thursday, though I did same some panadol on the Saturday for the plane flight. Follow your surgeon's instructions and go my your own comfort levels if you need longer than the recommended time until driving.

It;s very typical for weight to fluctuate on a daily basis, if someone can't handle the daily fluctuations they should weigh weekly or monthly. The daily fluctuations are not fat gains or loss, they are typically related to temporary fluid retention gains or losses. As long as the long term weight is stable (if goal weight is reached) or the long term trend is downwards (for those in weight loss mode) its all good.

Hungry all the time
Hop_Scotch replied to jenny1975's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some information is required to help with suggestions.... How many calories a day are you consuming and what does a typical day's menu look like? What exercise do you do, for how long, how often? -
Excess skin is a given for most of us..the extent of it will depend on genetics, age, history of big weight loss/gains, time for skin to shrink to the most its going to, plus some other factors. Exercise, hydration and some good fat intake may help in a limited capacity, some people swear by certain lotions. If you are fairly young and have the right genetics you end up with minimal excess skin.

Do You loose weight slower
Hop_Scotch replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
For you start weight I think you are doing pretty great. Some will of lost for the amount of time, others may have lost more, its very individual as we are all different. Set realistic goals and celebrate your weight loss so far. -
Do You loose weight slower
Hop_Scotch replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Nothing wrong with 35lb in two months regardless of the surgery date weight. What had you expected to lose by now? If your surgery date weight was on the lower side or you lost a lot of weight pre surgery you aren't immediately going to see big losses. It would help tailor responses if you filled in your profile data...weight, height etc. -
Food Before and After Photos
Hop_Scotch replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
From the photo it certainly doesn't look more than 1.5 cups, I would say less than a cup even 0.75 cup, but it does look like something I would enjoy eating -
why revisions?
Hop_Scotch replied to liveaboard15's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
A lot of people revision to a bypass from a sleeve due to suffering ongoing GERD with medication doesn't help. Others due to weight gain. If you already suffer a lot with acid reflux you may want to chat with your surgeon. I suffered with acid reflux but mine was definitely related to the type of foods I was eating and the amount of food I was eating. If my food intake and portions were healthy I was fine. I discussed with my surgeon and I went with a sleeve. So far so good. -
14 Months Post Op & Struggling
Hop_Scotch replied to TinaF313's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't think you have messed up your surgery...but you do need to take action now before you become more unstuck. Perhaps a check with your surgeon and/or dietician? Do start getting those vitamins, up the water intake. Start counting calories, find a baseline for your food intake and macros. -
Most people don't feel hungry after weight loss surgery, for some the hungry feeling comes back sooner than others. Because of our low calorie base though, it is important to eat some meals even if not feeling hungry. Have you spoken to your surgeon or dietician? If they are happy for you to continue as you are, perhaps speak to a therapist...the thought of eating shouldn't be making you feel sick. Maybe a subconscious concern about eating solid foods hurting or something else perhaps? Did you try soft foods initially?

Time between each bite 1 month post-Op?
Hop_Scotch replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are slowly chewing the 25 chews I would start with that. Swallow, pick up small amount of food, put in mouth, chew slowly for 25 chews. If it feels stuck, take a break for a few minutes. Then start again take 30 secs to 1 minute from time of swallowing before taking the next bite. Some people need longer initially, It won't be long before you determine the timing that works for you. -
Preop and skipping holiday gatherings this year?
Hop_Scotch replied to DoodlesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it were me with 75+ people expected, I'd be staying away. Only for the increased risk of covid just before surgery. -
