I would think with a lower BMI that it will more likely come down to genetics, but staying hydrated, exercise, good fat intake will help with it. It can take a while for excess skin to reduce anywhere up to one or two years. Oh and being a little younger will very likely be in your favour.

VSG candidate, boyfriend NOT onboard!
Hop_Scotch replied to Futuresleevie18's topic in Rants & Raves
I wonder if it's him who is actually wanting 'an easy way out', using the WLS as a means to force a break up? FutureSleevie read your own post back a couple of times, now what would you ask/tell or advise a close friend or family member after you've watched them struggle with weight gain and maintaining losses for a long time, struggling with obese related health issues, struggling with making what is one of their most important decisions in their life? I am guessing you wouldn't be telling them they are taking the easy way out and that you would be a hell of a lot more caring than that. -
Weight Loss through Respiration
Hop_Scotch replied to wjgo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not losing weight by respiration, you are losing weight because of calorie deficit and probably other metabolism mechanisms, respiration is just how the body rids its of the by product of fat loss. -
Weight Loss through Respiration
Hop_Scotch replied to wjgo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think fat once converted is only lost to respiration because the body uses the fat for energy. i don't see how increasing lung capacity will improve fat loss (other than through exercise which causes increased calorie defit) not because you have increased lung capacity as such. Fat loss is due to fat being converted to carbon dioxide and which is because of the overall calorie deficit not because of respiration of the carbon dioxide. If there is no deficit then there is no carbon dioxide to be 'breathed out'. That is just how the body rids itself of the by product of the fat being converted. If you increase and engage entire lung capacity that may increase fat loss but not because of the respiration but because you are increasing calorie deficit. Respiration is more about where the fat goes not that respiration causes the fat loss. It's the calorie deficit that is causing the fat loss. http://theconversation.com/when-we-lose-weight-where-does-it-go-91594 -
Weirdest coments you've gotten since WLS
Hop_Scotch replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow some people do not know who to engage their brain do they? At a BMI of 24 you are a long way off from looking like someone who has been suffering the results of cancer treatment. -
I can't comment after surgery but I can after weight loss (which obviously I regained). I reached a weight I was happy at, not in the healthy weight range for BMI, but I was curvy and fitted a size 12 (Australian). Losing the weight gave me the confidence to put myself back out there, as it were. I put a profile on a dating site, had some contacts, didn't meet too many, but there was one who I was quite taken with...we were together for about nine years. That relationship finished up March last year. With the weight loss and improved self confidence, I was happy to wear fitted clothes in lovely colours not the baggy shapeless clothes in dark or dreary I tended to wear. I know there are plenty of people with the confidence to put themselves out there regardless of what they weigh, not me, I practically become a recluse. For the period of time I kept most of the weight off I was quite confident and social. I wish I had that confidence, that self believe in myself regardless of what a number on the scales say. I think confidence is an attractive trait and people respond to it in a positive way. With confidence we stand tall, we smile at strangers, most strangers (including service staff such as shop workers) reactive positively to people who smile, who don't slouch etc. And to be fair to the opposite sex, there are plenty of men who love a confident (or not) woman regardless of what she weighs. Sorry for waffle!

ESG Progress Updates For Accountability
Hop_Scotch replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hopefully those four kilos are more fluid retention which should be a temporary gain than an actual fat gain. Hope you had a great holiday! -
No weight loss, unable to eat more
Hop_Scotch replied to notthedoublegoodbye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I can't help as I am still pre-op and don't even have a date yet. From what I've read there seems to be various post-op diet routines with in the first 4 or 6 weeks or so. Solids at almost three weeks seems pretty fast (but bear in mind I am no expert) perhaps its just too soon for you to have solids. Hopefully someone more experienced can offer their wisdom for you -
I thought this was going to be about euthanasia! Anyways, I know what you mean, my hair was so dark brown most people thought it was black, I generally get it coloured chocolate with reds mixed in. But the grey its a dirty colour grey so I will probably cover it with a lighter colour when the coverage goes mostly grey. I like the stark white hair (though I know its not white its just a good tone of grey/silver) some people wear it well.

Best wishes for tomorrow! I've been enjoying your posts, I like the way you write.

Some of the weight lost in the first two weeks was water, presumbably a high proportion. If this was the case, your body may have been dehyrdrated, some of the gain following the losses could be fluid retention as your body resets its fluid levels.

Hop_Scotch replied to loveeroxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I am not much help as I am pre-op but I hope by bumping your post some one who can help will see it. I did come across this and wondered it it may have some ideas for you. I did wonder if the avocado may be a little rich for you. https://www.livingwithasleeve.com/week-3-4-surgery-eat-puree-phase/ -
80 pounds down at today’s weigh in!
Hop_Scotch replied to Seahawks Fan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am pre-op and it is inspiring when people post their success. Congrats! -
Calorie deficit = calories in should be less than calories used for normal bodily functions, incidental movement and exercise. Exercise = weights/resistance training, cardio.

Gastric Bypass & Hypothyroidism
Hop_Scotch replied to Melissa Cad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks hopeful, but further research is required according to the first link. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28255851 https://www.thyroid.org/patient-thyroid-information/ct-for-patients/july-2017/vol-10-issue-7-p-3-4/ https://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/do-thyroid-stimulating-hormone-levels-change-after-gastric-bypass-surgery/ A query from a person who had bypass/thyroid issues and response from doctor: https://www.thinnertimesforum.com/topic/69147-thyroid-function-and-replacement-absorption-after-gastric-bypass/ -
Are you having an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty or gastric sleeve surgery? If it is the latter, you may be better placed to post in the VSG subforum has you will likely receive more responses there. https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/3-gastric-sleeve-surgery-forums/

Tattoo before surgery?
Hop_Scotch replied to Sprinkles1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't, there is always a risk of infection...and should you get an infection, surgery would likely be delayed. Here is an older post about tattooss -
Thanks for that, something to consider should ESG not be an option.

Any Netflix or Hulu Shows of Bariatric Life or WLS?
Hop_Scotch replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I enjoyed watching the Fat Doctor on youtube, there are four series, its UK based. There are other shows on the channel, the Fat Doctor series starts further down the page. https://www.youtube.com/user/fatdoctoresdigital -
I am still very much pre-op, my initial appointment with the surgeon isn't until 9th May. I am 155cms (about 5ft1) and weigh 95kgs (about 210lbs). I would be happy if I reached anywhere between 65 to 70kgs.

Well done!
