PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Lock down the guys/gals rooms by gender!!
Hop_Scotch replied to Syntax_Attack's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
I can understand why the forums are open to the general public, it's a marketing tool, aside from that, I wouldn't have found these forum if they were locked down. Some forums have a subforum which is accessible by registered users only, that would be useful. In the specific instance, the gender rooms could be locked down to members only, plus locked down by gender. I understand that there are specific issues that some people only like to share with their gender and don't want the other gender to read and/or comment on. In some instances, I would probably share more in a members only sub forum as well as a locked down female forum. -
Facial and massage would be my go to reward, aaaaah the bliss

Understanding the Pre-op Psychological Evaluation
Hop_Scotch replied to Dr. Colleen Long's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thank you, very informative! -
Wow four weeks that is a long time. You will be well and truly over liquids by your surgery date! What variety in your liquids are you allowed?

Ouch UTI's can be very unpleasant, hope you are feeling better soon, once gone you may feel fine for energy. When do you advance to the next stage? And what foods does it include?

2 weeks to a new me...getting excited and nervous Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty
Hop_Scotch replied to Just say no to cupcakes's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I understand the first or second day after the procedure you may be a little sore, hopefully it won't be too bad for you. Walking helps. Your doctor/nutritionist will advise on the coffe and wine. You are about a week away from your procedure, do you have a pre-op diet? -
help need to shed a few lbs before final with nutritionist
Hop_Scotch replied to newmebithebypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you go low carb or even just the liquid diet for a few days before the nutritionist you will probably lose the two pound. -
Totally stalled out and even gained and not even a month out!!!
Hop_Scotch replied to Blackdahlia2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Weight loss isn't linear even with WLS. You probably aren't doing anything wrong, but hormones, sodium, fluid retention and a whole lot of other things can play with the scales. It's usually only temporary. Keep on doing what you are doing, if the gains continue beyond the current week you may want to make sure of your protein/calorie and water intake. Make sure you are weighing solid foods and measuring the liquids. You've done great so far keep it up! -
Well done Heather, great achievement!

skipped purée stage
Hop_Scotch replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have instructions for a reason, best follow them. Why do something contra to instructions? You may be mentally ready but are you physically? You may do some damage. Talk to your surgeon or dietician before doing something rash. -
I wasn't necessarily referring to you, but in general.

http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/mediareleasesbyReleaseDate/7E65A144540551D7CA258148000E2B85 52% identified as Christian, 30% identified as no religion. I was brought up Catholic, I don't go to church unless its a wedding, christianing or funeral, I don't count myself as being particularly religious and haven't done so for a long time. It's been over 40 years since I went to confession or took communion, but if someone told me they were having a mass said for me or saying a prayer for, I would thank them and go on my way. I actually think there should be (more) religious classes in schools, but not sit down and study the bible or the koran ( or whatever the font of knowledge for any particular religtion), but learn about the different religions, what the beliefs are etc, even study agnosticism and atheist, learn about evolution and the contra view. Let people make up their minds themselves by giving them enough information to appreciate other points of view and to then further investigate any particular religion or otherwise should they wish to. Hopefully this would lead to more tolerance of people's differences in their beliefs. Tolerance needs to work all ways. I think parents who push their own beliefs on their children regardless whether it's religious, atheist or agnosticism do their children a disservice. To not give them the information regarding other points of view leads to intolerance and fairly narrow points of view.

If someone's biggest gripe/rant or rave in life is that someone says' bless you' or 'I'll pray for you', they indeed have a wonderful life. Best to worry about the things you can control and the things that you can't control let them go, makes for a less stressful life.

When my symptoms of sjogren's first appeared, one of the major salivary glands was quite sore for a week. Then not long later saliva production reduced, I had a dry mouth and lips (lips were cracking and peeling). Then within in a week or two of that, I couldn't swallow food without drinking water. Thankfully my symptoms aren't so bad anymore. Blood tests were negative for sjogren's, but given my blood markers for inflammation had been very high for years I was given a referral for a minor salivary gland biopsy, this was positive for sjogren's. It's strange that you are still producing saliva but you have a dry mouth and can't swallow food, but the sjogren's has so many varied issues/symptoms its hard to diagnose for some people. There are a lot of products out there that can help with the dry mouth, particularly mouth washes, gels and mousses. They also help with the dental aspect of dry mouth. If you are able to chew gum, gum with xylitol also helps.

Developed a rash after being sleeved
Hop_Scotch replied to Nessapuddin71's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The large itchy bumps where the steristrips could possibly be contact dermatitis. -
Hope all goes well for you! The diabetes wasn't tested for before surgery as part of the assessment for surgery?

Without knowing your height and current weight, I just want to say that liposuction isn't really a substitute for weight loss. If you are significantly overweight liposuction isn't going to help you. Are you willing to share your stats?

When "Family" doesn't understand
Hop_Scotch replied to Ernie D's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may not be be able to kick him to the kerb yet, but are you able to be assertive as in "you want breakfast? The eggs and bacon are in the fridge, the frying pay is on the stove, I'll leave you to it while I walk and feed the food, then I am off for my shower." -
Do your absolute and very best for the preop, it isn't going to get easier for the first few weeks post op from what I've read. What is it you are struggling with in particular?

Australians - Which State or Territory are you in?
Hop_Scotch posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Looks like it's been a while since the Australian sub-forum was posted in. Thought it would be interesting to see how many Australians are out there and what state/territory you live, where you are from, and whatever else you are happy to share. I come from a large family, and of the immediate family I am pretty much the only who is overweight. -
While I haven't had my procedure yet, I can relate to the obsessing over food. Is your dietician or surgeon/doctor able to give any insight? Hopefully those who have had WLS will chime in with their experiences once they reached goal weight and start maintenance.
