Sudoku is another favourite of mine too. I don't do too well on the hard level though.

Want to be a part of this site
Hop_Scotch replied to thinblueline's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don't post a lot, but I do read a lot. What I have seen sometimes are new posters who post a lot and share a lot very quickly, then they disappear within a few weeks. In the meantime, people have equally shared their experience and invested a lot of time in reponding to the new poster. Next time round, another new poster who posts a lot and shares a lot very quickly and each time round, existing members are slower to respond. Existing members are then waiting to see if the new poster is going to stick around, see if its worth engaging in a meaningful way. Particularly when the new member is posting a lot of personal info and asking others to exchange the same about them and/or asking questions that may take a lot of time to respond to. Give it time, this may be an anonymous message board but some people still are still cautious and want to take time to get to know others in a basic way, see if they can relate to the person and their personal circumstances and/or their questions and if they do, then they engage in a more meaningful way. A lot of people are short of time too, they like to come and go quickly and may respond to posts that do not require a lot of time. -

What does your surgeon or doctor say about it? -
Working out at a gym or at home? If at home, what equipment do you have? Barbell? Dumbbells? Here are some standard back exercises but it does depend on what equipment you have or will be using. https://barbend.com/best-back-exercises/

Negative comments from family members
Hop_Scotch replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Time to assertively tell these people that your weight loss, weight or any related dietary/food intake is no longer up for discussion. If they continue to bring up these matters, restate your position and change the subject. -
How much sugar per 100gms and how many grams in a serve? I googled them and they seem to many different products. Which ones were thinking of trying? Smoothies? Bowls? Soups? If the sugar that the products may contain isn't added sugar (in any form) and you are going the vegie products, I can't see that there would be too much sugar in them. Of course there is the starchy veges, which have a high carb content. I see they do have nutritional panels so you should be able to determine how much sugar is in each serve.

Reflux pain, discomfort, etc
Hop_Scotch replied to trishaaustin2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely normal at this point. Make sure you get up a lot and do a bit of walking about, it may help release some of the trapped gas. This should lessen over the next few days. If you are still experiencing the same level of discomfort in a week or so, I'd be checking in with your doctor. I assume your surgeon prescribed (for a short period of time) a medication that would reduce stomach acid? If so, make sure you take it. If not, if the discomfort continues you may need something to reduce the acid. -
estimated weight loss
Hop_Scotch replied to jantje's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At 5'7 and 209 still in the overweight range and has still 49lb before reaching the top of the BMI for the height of 5'7. 130lb would give a BMI of approx 20 which is at the lower end of the healthy weight range for the height. BMI isn't the be all end all of healthy weight as it doesn't account for body composition, but it is a fair indication for most of us as we are not athletes or body builders. A lot of people get to a fairly low weight following WLS, however, they typically gain some weight once they've reached their lowest weight. Best weight for your wife is the one agreed between her and her doctor/surgeon or herself only, and at the end of the day, weight isn't only the indicator of good health. Body fat percentage, blood sugars, fitness, cholesterol etc are possibly better indicators. -

Yellow saliva, bad mouth order after sleeve
Hop_Scotch replied to haneen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say possibly silent reflux, maybe chat to your doctor or surgeon, or try an over the counter medication to reduce acid see that helps. But if does help with the yellow saliva you don't want to be taking over the counter medication long term..so you'd need to see a doctor or surgeon anyway. -
When am I gonna lose some freaking weight?!?!
Hop_Scotch replied to lori's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How much weight did you lose in pre op? More you lose prior to surgery less likely you are going to lose a lot quickly in the immediate post op stage. Also depends how much weight you have to lose as well. Was your surgery date weight the same as your original surgery day weight? -
While all weigh loss is excellent, it would be helpful if you filled in your profile, starting weight, height, current weight so as to give context to your query.

Working out and eating too much
Hop_Scotch replied to MaureenA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your body will need more sustenance to maintain your exercise levels, you will need to eat more. The balance will be how much more. If you aren't losing weight eat a little less than 1600cals and keep adjusting down. There may be a pause on weight loss at the moment which is not related to weight gain due to additional calories, but if your muscles are really sore after each workout, your body is very likely retaining fluid to help repair the muscles. If you are really sore you may also be building lean body mass but this wouldn't be happening as fast you'd think it would and hopefully you are losing body fat at the same time. -
Periods (women only please)
Hop_Scotch replied to Ngotsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Next time someone wants a female response only without having to explain why they may want to post here https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/432-the-gals-room/. There is an equivalent male room for male specific issuex and/or males who prefer respones from males only. Male members can read but are not meant to reply in the 'gals room' (and the sames applies to the equivalent males room). The 'gals' room doesn't preclude biological males who identify as female (and the sames applies to the equivalent males room) but I hope people find a safe place in either room for what they are posting about. -
Post bypass symptoms and nervous.

If you are really concerned and you can't get to speak to the nurse, surgeon or your own doctor in a timely manner, I wouldn't hesitate to go to ER. -
3 weeks post op and I want to detox
Hop_Scotch replied to Olivette's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I assume this will give you a bowel cleanout? These type of teas also dehydrate you as they draw water to the bowel. I doubt a 'detox' in this way will stop you feeling sluggish. You are likely feeling sluggish because you aren't getting sufficient fluids and the low calorie base, plus your body is still in recovery mode. Take your vitamins and other supplements as recommended, drink your fluids and follow food guidelines for types of foods and volumes. Is meat on post op guidelines for the stage you are at? If not, perhaps you best speak to your nutritionist or surgeon, if so, prepare the meat as instructed and you should be fine. If its a struggle give it a couple of more weeks before attempting again. -
What is different about your evening meal than your breakfast or lunch? Also are you doing physical activities close to or after your evening meal? Are you drinking lots of fluid before your evening meal? More importantly what feedback or suggestions has your surgeon or nutritionist made around the issue?

Is anyone's spouse against WLS?
Hop_Scotch replied to MrsGreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So what does he do himself so as not to take advantage of technology, inventions or health advancements - what does he do the hard way? Not just in health but in everyday life and work. I assume you've already attempted what he considered to be the hard way? Does he think you haven't put the effort in? Maybe take him along to your next medical appointment with the surgeon so that the surgeon can explain the superiority of surgery over what he considers to be the hard way. -
Are you using protein shakes? If so, you may have a temporary dairy/lactose intolerance. Perhaps try using non dairy protein shakes and see how you go.

Stall or just a slow loser?
Hop_Scotch replied to Livgreen___'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's very early days, your body is still in recovery, weight is going to be all over the place. It's only been three days since you've lost some scale weight, you are not going to lose weight every single day and three days doesn't make a stall. Give yourself a break from the scales, don't weigh yourself for another few weeks. -
Can I start the next diet stage earlier?
Hop_Scotch replied to idk4w's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The post op food phases are there for a reason, no progression without your surgeon's say particularly this early post op. -
May be try stews/casseroles/thick soups for a while, along with foods that require dressings/gravy/sacues as well as scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yoghurt, oats/porridge, soft vegies, minced meats (that are typically softier and easier to swallow).

Some people do experience headaches, possibly due to dehdration I assume and various other reasons.
