Starting to gain the weight back help

Just wondering are you assuming that weight loss caused the stroke? Hopefully Tammy just doesn't think they know what caused the stroke but hopefully the medical care team where able to give Tammy a good indication what caused it.

    Pre-Surgery Fears (2 Days Away!)

Anxiety and nerves before an operation a common, I guess you need to determine what is normal and what is over the top anxiety and nerves. Lots of what ifs, I am sorry I can't help you there, but if you can't commit to the recover time just yet, perhaps you should reconsider the timing until you can deal with some of the anxiety and take the time to recover properly. You are going to be in pain, you will have stitches, you won't be eating properly for awhile being at work before you are ready (and not just mentally ready but physically too) could compromise your health, recovery and weight loss. Timing of return to work may also depend on your job and where your work...sit at desk, on feet all day etc etc
  3. Not far away at all, if you like around the forums you may find a March thread where some or a lot of March people will be posting.
  4. Well hopefully you are feeling better now. It may be that the vomiting wasn't related to the phentermine.

    Vitamin Deficiency

Just to confirm are you taking supplements or not? Sure food choices will help increase levels, however, if you are still eating a fairly low calorie diet you may be limited in reaching the required levels by food choices alone, hence why supplementation my be required.

    Some light reading

I have been reading this book, some of it is difficult to read (only because it is technical), but there are some interesting concepts, and yes it does reinforce protein consumption and why we shouldn't drink fluids within a specified time of eating solids. They equally apply to those who haven't had WLS I would think. There is a small section when he talks about WLS and hormones plus some other things.

    Craving Beans??

I currently have a pot of spicy bean casserole/stew cooking on the stove. Perhaps its not so much the beans you are craving but the texture or flavours that beans or bean recipes have??

I haven't told anyone about my surgery

I wouldn't have told a single person if my doctor hadn't insisted that I have someone stay with me up to 24hours after the procedure. One person knows, a friend who came with me, I stressed the importance to her of my privacy. I certainly don't feel bad or guilty about not telling anyone else. My body my business. I understand your concern with your partner, if he has disclosed past confidences you made to him, how can you trust him not to do it again.

    Yogurt

I had kefir for the first time ever this morning. I liked it and will definitely be buying more.
  15. Aside from telling her that it was none of her business...I may have said that WLS is a last resort option, and if I had have been able to lose weight and successfully maintained the weight loss without WLS I wouldn't be here. The nurse has no right to ask such questions, I would inform the hospital of the unprofessionalism of the nurse. She shouldn't be second guessing patients or their doctors.

    The mental struggle is real

So very true and a timely post. Unless we deal with the issues/challenges and/or habits that caused us to emotionally eat or overeat, any bariatric procedure will only be a temporary salve. The brain is a powerful thing and lately mine has been at me for the old things that I used to deal with stress and cravings. I have to constantly push myself not to fall into old habits and make sure new ones stick, can't say I am 100% successful.
  17. Full liquids already? A lot of post op diets have a few days clear liquid in the days immediately following the op. Also initially only 60gms of protien and 60oz of fluids. Perhaps recheck your post op guidelines just to be sure. Also do you have any contact with a support group from your dr's surgery/clinic to see how they managed with such guidelines so soon after surgery. You want to fill in your profile so people can see what surgery type you had, it helps when responding to questions you may have.
  18. I had avoided this thread, but let me share what I had posted elsewhere: "Who would I be if I weren't fat...I had actually avoided this 'thread' when I first came across it on another social media site. I had immediately thought of the times I had allowed being overweight/fat/obese/heavy (whatever is your preferred term) to interfere in my life, my happiness, my career, my relationships. I don't share personal well, but I will share a couple of more recent experiences. My then current partner was of average weight,I wasn't of course, and I use to get embarrassed with public displays of affection, I mean what would people think of a slim to average man, who was pinching my backside as we walked upstairs or out of a restaurant, when I was very clearly overweight. While I am putting it out there, I had let how I think about me impact on our sex life, here was a man who clearly adored me, but I continually pushed him away. I was lined up for an job interview (only one of two people to be interviewed) which would see me progress in my chosen profession. It was with a well known company, I had a vision of 'beautiful' people who would work there, and that wasn't me because I was fat. I called the contact and made my excuses, I lied as to why I couldn't make the interview....I very much regret that, I regretted it as soon I put the phone down. So I have had an ESG, and I am losing weight, I still have a ways to go, but no longer will I allow my obesity to hold me back, where I go to from here will be my own responsibility and no more excuses. The sad thing is I have always been an advocate of the saying...what anyone else thinks of me is none of my business...I wasn't walking the talk, but I will be from now on!"

Has anyone tried Keto after VSG?

Hopefully a bump may prompt those who may be doing keto or close to it. I did a search on Facebook using - bariatric keto - there were a number of groups, you may find one of them useful if no response here.

    Cholesterol increase after surgery??

Does high cholesterol run in your family at all? It may be genetics not diet related high cholesterol. Do you know the levels of the various components? HDL, LDL, triglicerides?
  25. I have a shocking sweet tooth and generally do much better if I don't go there in the first place, but try to have an exit strategy if I do. For instance if I want something sweet, I now buy a packet of what it is....take it to work, take one, leave the rest in the lunch room for everyone else. Sometimes this works, sometimes all I can think about is heading back to the lunch room to grab another one or two before they all disappear. I am definitely not a moderator do much better when abstaining. I am trying to work on other ways to get sweet from other foods...blueberries, yoghurt, small handful of nuts with a few raisins even a small drink of skim milk. Sometimes I find that having something like protein or high fibre with something sweet helps keeps further sweet cravings at bay.
