I haven't been to a nutrition class but I did do one on ones with a dietician, just discussed current diet, what diet I will need pre op / post op...etc. Any reason the surgeon isn't doing a bypass to start with? Will your insurance cover the original surgery plus a revision?

How? Percentage excess body fat loss?
Hop_Scotch replied to bariutiful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes but you would need before and after body fat percentage (or in kilos) along with weight, otherwise it's just a guess. There are some websites where you can enter weight and certain measurements and it gives an guessimate of body fat percentage...you could do for before and after, again not accurate but may be close enough for what you are after. -
STOP never go for gastric balloon!!
Hop_Scotch replied to ideal_weight's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
For a lot of us longer term success does not necessarily mean rigorous diet and exercise, but rather dealing with the issues that led us to overeat in the first place. -
I agree, you've lost 46lb in less than eight weeks you've done really well, I can't see how that is stalling. You are not going to lose weight every single day nor even every single week. There are also the natural stalls that most people have following surgery even if they are not eating many calories. Immediately following surgery there is inflammation and very likely fluid retention, and then as the post op food phases are progresses which usually result in stalls, all these are natural and fairly typical. Again they may be more stall as exercise is introduced and then intensified.

Halo top, other low calorie high protein ice creams
Hop_Scotch replied to Jessviera's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What high proteins full liquid options are you using currently? Some may have some other options if they know what you are already having. -
I tried it for a fairly short period only as it made one of my autoimmune symptoms worse as I progressed through the higher doses. For the three weeks I used it, I was fairly fortunate that i didn't feel any of the nausea or stomach upset issues that are some of the side effects. I didn't like injecting myself but I would have likely continued using it for a little while (if it wasn't for the autoimmune issue) as I was given a free month's (or was it three month's) supply by a doctor. It is expensive, so be prepared to spend some $$. In one of the subforums here (the ESG one) and on a couple of fb pages I belong, some people have had good success with saxanda.

Exercise 4 months after mini sleeve
Hop_Scotch replied to EMARSA1028's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is fantastic, if I lived close by and I needed a revision from ESG I would seriously consider this option. I love the minimally invasive aspect of it. -
Hello and welcome. What a wonderful CEO you have. You have gotten off to an excellent start with the weight loss. My procedure was non-surgical so am not much help with the days following surgery, but there are plenty of posts here and no doubt some will post their stories here for you.

Sorry to hear you are feeling this way, I think you would benefit greatly if you saw a therapist. Some people are treated differently when they lose what but I don't think its all about the way they look, I think some of it is the way they present a different attitude, more confidence, happier, etc etc.

Weight Loss Disappointment
Hop_Scotch replied to Jerseygal247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How tall are you and what was your weight on the date of your surgery? The lower your start weight the lower the weight loss will be. If you were significantly overweight say 350lb to 400lb start with, you could epect to lose more if your food intake is on point. What is your daily menu looking like? What are you eating and drinking and in what volumes? Just a thought it would be useful if you filled in your profile, it would stop the questions like what is your start weight, what surgery did you have etc, as the information is there already to see. -
Impatience & how to prevent loose skin
Hop_Scotch replied to Sleeved in NYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is highly likely you are going to have some loose skin, how much is likly to depend mostly on genetics, age, history of yoyo dieting/big losses and regains (impacting on elasticity of skin), amount of weight lost etc. Once you have lost your excess fat, skin can take up to about two years for it to contract the most it is likely to. Exercise (building underlying muscle), water, getting some good fats are some good things that may help with the 'appearance' of the loose skin, but not a significant help. Impatience to lose weight is not going to help your situation, it leads to significant disappointment with unreasonable expectations. For weight loss goals be guided by your doctor's expectations. -
7 Days Post Op - Ate Cottage Cheese
Hop_Scotch replied to JanJan19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can't say that with certainty, Some people are fairly under prepared and researched when it comes to their post op diets, they do not understand the risks of complications and how pushing forward with foods could risk their recovery and surgery. It's not hard to follow the guidelines, its only for a short period of time. Trusted the doctor to do the surgery? Then extend that trust to their post op guidelines. If someone desperately feels they can't another protein shake or soup after a week or two, see the doctor, see the nutritionist - ask for safe alternatives, seek permission to progress. I don't know about anyone else but pre my procedure...if ever I was dieting, I often found one cheat meal, became a cheat day, became a cheat week and before i knew it months had passed and I would find myself heavier than ever. It's a slippery slope, some people do not moderate well, essentially cheat or tweak once, becomes all that much easier tomorrow or the another day and cheating or tweaking becomes worse. -
Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

I saw the post before the name had been changed, but also, if you go back and look where before had quoted the post before the name change, the name shown is the old name. -

Have you tried kefir? If you can stomach it it is a good source of probiotics.

A lot of people do not lead exciting lives (me included haha) so what other people are eating for lunch or dinner can be particularly interest lol. Just because they ask questions doesn't mean you have to answer them. Just smile and change the topic or just smile and say that's not up for discussion. As you lose weight, it will probably get worse, again just just smile etc....It will drive them insane

For anyone wondering what this procedure actually is, here are some links https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20374012 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17331511 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4428559/ -
Try chewing parsley if you can stomach it. Also instead of just drinking water, whish some of it around the mouth for a few seconds before swallowing.

Well done for perservering, you've done really well. Looking forward to your next post. -
Congratulations on your weight loss efforts and results. I know you are just sharing but I am assuming you didn't have a personality change along with the WLS so why would your friend want the old you back? I don't expect an answer from you...just pondering really.
