  1. The nausea may be a bit of acid reflux, are you sleeping on a bit of incline/sitting up a little? It may help. Are you on any acid reducers for a short period of time?

    Revision 4/10 worried about corona

My surgery is next Wednesday and I will be travelling to another state for it. I am not inclined to cancel but that may be taken out of my hands if the hospital cancels 'elective' surgery. Some hospitals have cancelled upcoming surgeries already but they are public hospitals not private. As long as my surgeon and hospital staff remain virus free (me too of course) I will be going ahead with it. *note I am in Australia.

    Coronavirus / COVID - 19

Problem with self isolation/quarantine it doesn't work when some people won't do it. In Australia, people who were later confirmed as having the virus, while waiting for their test results (and were sent home to self isolate) went shopping, one went to work and night clubs, another went to a concert, I am sure there are other incidences. I haven't stocked up on anything other than supplies to get me through the first few weeks of post-op (surgery next week if its not cancelled).
  4. There are many similar posts to yours on here but it's only a temporary fluid gain from the iv fluids and inflammation in your body. Over the next week or so the fluid will leave your body. Keep on following your guidelines and you will get through this.
  5. How exciting! Hope it all goes well for you
  6. @Mooki what foods are you eating and at what volumes? I know there are a variety of post op guidelines with different timeframes for the food stages, but are you still on liquids?

    Drinking too much wine

No doubt a difficult decision to make, but it is good that you have made it. I wish you well in your recovery.

    Preop

I would hope a few of those close friends would help and support you so that you aren't doing it on your own. A lot of people don't do perfect on the pre-op diet, and the nerves before surgery are not unusual. Take a deep breath...take some time out and consider why you wanted the surgery in the first place, want you want to achieve from it...

    Drinking too much wine

That's great! If AA isn't for you there is another support group that works a little differently than AA https://www.smartrecovery.org/about-us/ They have actual meetings, online meetings as well as a online community. I wish you all the best!

    Drinking too much wine

Have you thought about AA? A friend of mine had the sleeve done a few years ago, she developed a drinking problem was drinking one to bottles a night. She knew this wasn't sustainable for her, joined AA and has been sober for over nine months. She is much happier and healthy for it.

Without surgery it could take you longer if you are still eating above maintenance calories. Before tackling weight loss surgery you will need to tackle the drinking and compulsive eating...have you seen a counsellor?

Formulite Lupin Soup - anyone tried?

I bought some unflavoured collagen protein powder at the same time, I will try that with broth in the week. Thanks
  13. I will be undergoing a revision from ESG to gastric sleeve mid March, I have been looking at protein products for the pureed/soft post op stages. I came across lupin soup made by Formulite. Just wondering if any one has tried it? How did you find it? I could also water it down more and filter for use in the liquid stage if needed. My program has a short liquid phase. I'd only be using it for a short while for the pureed/soft stage.....I could probably do my own broth thing and add flavourless protein powder...but I know me I wouldn't bother making the broth so best to have something on hand other than protein shakes or protein water. Thanks https://formulite.com.au/shop/lupin-soup-500g-beef-flavour/

Formulite Lupin Soup - anyone tried?

Of the three flavours - beef, chicken and vegetable, I bought the beef. It looks and taste more like it should be vegetable soup. I didn't mind the soup or the flavour. Definitely something for pre-op (as alternative to a shake) or post op as a convenience food once past liquid/pureed/soft food stages. It is quite 'gritty' with the lupin flakes which like to settle on the bottom. It's not something I would water down, as I mentioned above, it would be quite tasteless. If I buy the soup again, I will try the chicken flavour.

    Pre Surgery jitters

Lots of people have had really good success with ESG, particularly in USA and other countries where it has been carried out for a while (as its a fairly new procedure). In Australia there seems to be a higher failure rate due to many reasons: some doctor technique is lacking, overeating, etc...some others lost restriction for no apparent reason. I think in time Australia success rate will improve as the doctors gain more experience in the technique and ongoing the technique is being improved. I am member of a few ESG fb groups where the posting is a little bit more frequent than this subforum. Message me if you would like the links. There is one good site with a lot of people from USA...it a fairly positive site. I had my ESG in Australia over a year ago. No real pain other than stomach cramps for the first few days and I did recover well. At first restriction felt good, and I had good weight loss (lost about half of what I wanted), over time the restriction lessened and I have none now. I have gained some weight back though I haven't reached my pre-procedure weight. An endoscopy showed I have about one suture intact. There is no one reason why my ESG failed and it is possible I contributed with a couple of bouts of overeating. I will be converting to a sleeve fairly soon. The surgeon has done a few conversions and he feels I should be able to convert to a sleeve, if not, he will do a mini bypass. The anchors can prevent conversion to a sleeve. I have been working hard (which help) on what causes me to overeat, it is an ongoing battle but I have made some great progress and feel quite confident going forward. I do regret my decision but only for the fact I wish I had waited until the Australian doctors had more experience with the procedure and ongoing the procedure is being refined to ensure better outcomes. My tips to get the best of your procedure would be to follow all post op guidelines particularly around volumes of food, exercise once you are able to, don't be tempted to test your restriction just because you can eat more than the guideline volumes...once you get past soft food stage, try and get as much protein from food as opposed to shakes (satisfaction and restriction will kick in quicker than with fluids), avoid slider foods and if your doctor/clinic as a post op management program make sure you commit to it and make all your appointments. Don't abandon the program with embarrassment if you have stalls or weight gains along the way...this will the time when you most need to reach out to the experts. One important thing is to work on what causes you to overeat, this won't change with the ESG, those battles will still be there, if you work on them now you will have better outcomes for your ESG. My outcome is but one of many of successes and failures, on the main ESG group on fb there have been some great successes particularly in USA.

    Primary care doctor lied

Perhaps he was confused between you and another patient.
  17. Sorry can't help with your questions, but well done on winning the appeal!

    Recreational Drugs

A straight out couple of questions for you. How many times in the past have you done cocaine? Are you already addicted? Because I can't understand why someone who wasn't would want to do this so soon after surgery, why someone would put their life on the line to get a hit so soon after life saving weight loss surgery. Please seek some help.....

    Preop and smoking

A question for you, some hospitals test to make sure that the patient is non smoking (a blood test?) on the day of surgery...do you know if yours does? My one bit of advice would be to see what may help with the anxiety...counselling, hypnotherapy, talking it out with family / friends, whatever will help beside the smoking...

    Drinking with meals

This may help understand why fluids should be avoided when eating meals.... https://www.tristatebariatrics.org/blog-post/eating-and-drinking-after-weight-loss-surgery I find it easy to not drink for 30minutes after a meal since my ESG, I look at the time I finished eating and don't drink for 30 minutes. I assume this is more complicated in the post op stages with a lot more smaller meals thus eating more regularly. I guess its all in the sipping, carry a water bottle with you, sip away - a lot, stop drinking the required time before a meal and don't pick it up for 30 minutes. It may have been a little different for me, I have been use to sipping a lot and often (for a number of years) as a I have a autoimmune syndrome that results in no or very little salvia production. I know someone who takes very small sips when eating and she is doing fine, she is about six months out, she was given the okay to...but each surgeon seems to have their own guidelines and its best to follow your own surgeon's guidelines.
  21. I have't calculated the cost yet, but I figure it will be a hell of a lot cheaper per month than the food crap I use to buy
  22. It will be a good weight though - lean body mass. Don't get caught up in scale weight once you start weight training. If you can have a dexa scan to find out your body composition - lean body mass vs body fat percentage.

    Recreational Drugs

Cocaine is not a one time thing, its highly addictive. Cocaine damages many other organs in the body. It reduces blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract, which can lead to tears and ulcerations.
