  1. You are not done, you can still lose some weight. Though you are at a lower BMI now, and with your height (and without now your age or incidental activity level) your maintenance calories (before adding in any exercise calorie requirements) would be quite low, and wouldn't leave a lot of scope for slip ups. If you haven't already determine your calorie requirements for maintenance based on your age, gender, current weight, height...from there you can deduct an amount to allow for weight loss (maybe 500 per day?). If you aren't already make sure you are weighing your foods, eyeballing volumes doesn't cut it, and don't rely on 1/2 cup or cup volumes as calories will vary greatly as contents settle etc. Weigh everything, buy some food scales if you don't already have some. My fitness pal site can help calculate weight loss calorie requirements, you could also track your current food intake for a week see where its at and where it can be tweaked. If you prefer not to use MFP, start with determining daily calorie requirements. https://tdeecalculator.net/

    I want to eat

How much longer before you progress to the next stage? If its a day or two chat with your surgeon or dietician they may say go ahead (or not). It's hard when we miss the sensation of chewing as well as the pleasure or relief (if a stress eater) that food gave us. It will be a little easier if you find something to distract your mind and hands at the same time. No doubt there are various post op guidelines when the food stages are introduced at different times, do not progress faster than your post op guidelines unless you have approval from your surgeon or dietician. While you don't feel any pain it doesn't mean your body has finished healing. Do not compromise your health or future viability of your new small stomach by progressing with approval.

You are getting close to a healthy BMI, at this point in time you need to be particular about calorie intake...you may well be eating at maintenance. Your volume of food doesn't appear to be a lot but some of the foods are calorie dense: almonds, cheese and possibly salmon (its an oily fish plus more calories if skin still there). If dried cranberries they are about 300 calories per 100gms. Download a calorie counting app, track all your foods and any drinks with calories, measure and weigh everything - don't rely on eyeing it or using 1/2 cup or 1 cup volumes etc. Track yourself honestly, every single thing, for one or two weeks. It will give you a baseline of your current calories. From what I can gather some people are consuming anywhere between 600 to 1000 calories at the five to six month mark, some will be at the higher mark (or consume more) if they are exercising a lot or have significantly more weight to lose. Once you know your current calorie baseline you can tweak from there. A little time spent on yourself will very likely reward you with further fat loss!

    On hold

Sucks for you and many others whose surgery has been cancelled. I wouldn't say the country is losing it's mind though, more of case of being practical to protect patients and staff as well as ensuring beds may be availabile for victims of the virus if needed.

More information is needed for anyone to tailor some information towards your personal circumstances How many calories are you eating and drinking? What type of foods are you mostly eating? Are you exercising? What was your weight on surgery day? Current weight? Height?

    Vegan & WLS

He hasn't done weight loss surgery for some time, so any patients that may eat vegan are patients from a while a go. His social media following may follow his vegan guidelines.
  8. Thank you! Excellent information and tips.

Liquid phase post op - protein

I assume you are on full liquids only at this stage? I am not sure how you are meant to get your protein with only one protein drink per day...are you sure you have understood your post op guidelines correctly? If you have, I would suggest you contact your surgeon / dietician for additional suggestions. I too had surgery on 18 March...my guidelines are 6 drinks of about 120ml per day for about 60 to 80 gms of protein, plus non calorie fluids of about one litre. Is protein water an option for you or something like ensure plus? According to my guidelines I can use: VLCD shakes protein rich milk 1 tablespoon skim milk powder into 125ml low fat milk fortified milks surch as up and go energize protein waters protein smoothies (commerically available ones only) commercial protein powders

That's great, hopefully there won't be any delays or too long of a delay!
  11. I will be heading to the hospital in about five minutes, and I thought I would start a thread where I would post my experience and updates with an ESG revision/conversion to gastric sleeve. I had an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) nearly 18 months ago- more about that another time. An endoscopy last month verified that all but one suture had come undone. Time for a conversion. As expected I am a bit nervous this morning but am grateful that surgery hasn't been cancelled in these trying times. I don't have bariatricpal set up on my tablet or mobile so will be updating in a few days as I won't be carting my old big laptop to the hospital.

    Gastric Sleeve (revision from ESG)

Had my surgery and spent two nights in hospital, one night in hotel accommodation and I flew home today. Gas pain hasn't been too bad for me, I was up walking not long after I was taken to the ward, and I walked three laps every hour during the days, did the occasional laps when I couldn't sleep at night. Tenderness and inflammation around the incision points has improved greatly too. I started on ice chips the first evening, then clear fluids by lunchtime the next day. Before I left the hopsital they wanted me to try full liquids so at breakfast time I had a small bit of ensure plus and lunch time strained cream of chicken soup. I as pretty impressed with the hospital it had a bariatic menu of clear and full liquids which included apple juice, broths, protein waters, protein enriched drinks, strained soups, vast range of milks, teas (and interestingly coffee) etc . At first taking any liquid triggered an instant spasm which lasted only a very short period of time. This no longer happens. I am just having my first full liquid since I left the hospital, I didn't want to risk it at the hotel or airport in case it didn't go down well. So far so good. i am being mindful of the volume of liquid being consumed, I don't want to be dehydrated. I have a phone call with the dietician on Friday and may be allowed to progress to purees at that stage if I am tolerating full liquids well. I am in state govt mandated self isolation / quarantine for two weeks as I wasn't able to return to my home state by last night, thank goodness for a treadmill which will allow for some walking when I am up to it. I haven't weighed myself yet, think I will give myself a week or so (if I last that long)- I had four 1ltr bags of IV at the hospital, I can only imagine how much fluid retention there currently is.

    Gas Pain after Surgery ?

I am not an expert but that sounds like acid reflux, hopefully the medication will bring some relief, let us know how you get on...

40lbs is excellent no reason to feel like a failure at all. The poster may have lost a lot of weight before surgery.
  16. I have been fortunate, my surgery has not been cancelled (so far) and in 12 hours time I will be presenting at the hospital.
  17. What does your surgeon about exercising timelines? Anything in the post op guidelines?

    Tough Time with Liquid Diet

Don't advance to the next stage unless your medical team has given you the go ahead to. Are you able to distract yourself doing other things...I find keeping hands and mind busy distracts me from cravngs or feeling hungry. Are you getting plenty of no calories fluids...water or your preferred drink? What liquid drinks are you consuming? Do they have a high protein content?

    GASTRIC SLEEVE

Motivation can be likened to an emotion, it peaks and it troughs. It can't be relied upon to get you through. What gets you through is commitment to yourself and health goals. What stage are you at? What are you having difficulty with?
  20. Sounds like contact dermatitis...when I get it, its very red, sometimes lumps and always insanely itchy. Hope you are over it soon.

    Air pockets

Have you changed the way you are breathing, eating or drinking in that time? Might be time for a visit to a doctor....
  22. Isn't that because its done under the national health system and they only have limited places per year? Lot of people have it done privately.

    Hiccups

Some people get hiccups if they have eaten too much. What i try for hiccups is take a breath, hold it and try to swallow two times, repeat. Sometimes it works, other times not so well
  24. Dumping? What did you specifically eat and how much of it?
