  1. Don't know current weight, but I consider any loss of weight before the surgery a bonus, a pre-op liquid diet may boost that. If you do have a particular enlarged liver it wouldn't hurt to attempt to shrink but I am not sure if a one week liquid diet would do all that much, a lot require a two week liquid diet. Another way to look at the liquid diet is an opportunity to start getting into post op mode.....practicing as it were.
  2. It may be beneficial for you to see a counsellor as to what is driving you to eat more as well as a bariatric dietician. A lot of why we overeat is due to emotions and if we don't work on this we are doomed to keep making the same mistakes over and over again when it comes to overeating.
  3. I had read that somewhere about the bypass, so the food isn't being fully digested and it creates more gas

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

Well there is a dexa scan which measures body fat, however, that wasn't my point. I was suggesting that you perhaps you need to take your mind of weight loss for a little while and focus on non scale measures of success. Focus on some positives for a while.
  5. I don't know your starting weight but you have achieved a lot in seven months, it is unlikely that you are going to continue to lose weight at the prior rate as time goes by and as your progress. How much more weight until you reach your goal weight?

    Not losing weight

Sounds like you are in the three week stall that lot of people experience for up to two to three weeks. As we go through the food stages and probably increase our calorie intake a little, our bodies take time to adjust. If you are concerned speak to your dietician, make sure you are keeping a food journal and are eating the food volumes and type of foods in your guidelines. Also make sure you are getting sufficient non calorie fluids. Keep calm, it will come.

READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL

I am a little shorter than you. Our calorie deficit isn't going to be all that high even if we are only eating 600 to 700 calories per day. The older we get, the shorter we are, the less we weigh, our gender means our maintenance calories are low, hence, our deficit isn't as great as someone taller, younger and weighing much more. We lose slower and lower. That said, you are in deficit and probably should be losing some weight but you have been posting for what seems like weeks that you haven't perhaps you are in a normal stall? As we progress, it is likely that there are stalls,,sometimes these stalls can last up to two to three weeks as our bodies adjust to the different foods as well as likely an increase in calories. I have been sitting around the same weight for about a week or two. It is what it is, I have read enough here and elsewhere to know that it is normal and that if I stick to my guidelines that the weight loss will kick in again. Are you willing to share a typical day's menu for you? Are you actually measuring or weighing your food or eyeballing it? What are your macros? How much protein vs carbs? How much no calorie fluids? Are you exercising? Do you have any medical conditions or on medication that may slow down weight loss? What type of foods are you eating: pureed, soft, solids? I know at my stage of pureed and soft foods that I am unlikely to feel full if I eat the foods that are on my list and in the volumes that are in my guidelines. Going from your posts I think you are dwelling too much on scale weight and there isn't sufficient focus on non scale victories that are likely for you...improved blood pressure, lower cholestrol, improved fitness (if you are exercising that is, exercise isn't only for weight loss its great for mental health too), clothes fitting better, improved blood sugar levels if pre diabetic or diabetic, etc etc etc

    Trouble Sleeping

While obesity is a big risk for sleep apnea there are other risk factors too https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sleep-apnea/symptoms-causes/syc-20377631 Some of the afternoon fatigue and sleepiness may not be due to low calorie intake,

    Trouble Sleeping

Were you checked again before surgery or was it assumed because you lost the weight that you wouldn't have apnea still?

How much more weight to your goal weight? Have you still tracking how much food you are eating? Weighing and measuring everything?

    Gatric Bypass or Sleeve?

Has your surgeon given a recommendation based on the GERD? There are some people who need a revision to a bypass due to acid reflux, and a number of people have a bypass as an initial surgery due to them having a lot of reflux/GERD. I don't know that it gets worse for everyone after a sleeve but it would be interesting to see the percentage who have a revision to bypass due to GERD but had it prior to their sleeve. I have a sleeve, it is early days yet for me and I am still on an acid reducer which I will be finishing later this week, but so far so good. Before my surgery I hadn't had acid reflux in over 18 months or so, based on that my surgeon was happy to recommend a sleeve, had the reflux been current he would have wanted to do a bypass.

    When does energy return?

I am at nearly three weeks post op, so far I haven't experienced any lack of energy or fatigue...it is early days though. To be fair I haven't been doing anything really energetic other than walking loops around the house and garden/ or walking on the treadmill at a lowish pace. I am back to work today, I will see how the energy levels are at the end of the week.

    Gas, Gas and More Gas

Perhaps give the raw salad veges a miss for a little while see if that helps. If the gas stops you know that the raw veges are possibly the culprit. Cabbage, broccoli, cauli, brussel sprouts plus some others are probably the gassy culprits.

What is the average weightloss at 6 months?

That's a great average and for your start weight good too, some will have an average that is higher, others lower...but it does depend on many things...start weight, age, gender, exercise, height and of course calories consumed.

    March2020 VSG

You are doing well so far, that's great to see. I have been pretty happy with my recovery (except for a bad case of contact dermatitis) and food and liquid tolerance is going well so far. Why only eggs I wonder? Eggs are one of the harder things to tolerate at this stge for a lot of people. I am just starting the second week of my pureed diet, my dietician recommended trying eggs and cottage cheese last as they can be difficult for a lot of people in the early stages. A lot of people think they have made a mistake in the early days and weeks for various reasons. Why do you feel it has been a mistake for you?

    Quarantine 15

I have almost finished week two post op and am on pureed foods, so no temptations there. I am in state govt mandatory quarantine until Saturday midnight, as I wasn't able to return home before the date set (thankfully I made it home when I did, arrivals into my state now have to go into govt quarantine at designated hotels). I am not allowed to go anywhere or have any visitors. So I have been keeping myself busy cleaning out cupboards, catching up on reading, shows, etc. I have been walking loops around the house and if I have had a particularly lazy day do some slow walking on the treadmill. Won't be long before I can walk at my usual speed. Mental health wise, been having lots of chats with family and friends. What about yourself?
  19. Hopefully some who have had a revision to bypass because of reflux will be able to add some suggestions, my only suggestion would be to make sure you are sleeping with a few pillows so you are sitting up a little, but I am guessing you are doing that already.
  20. Are you taking any acid reducers for the first month or so after your surgery?

    Discouraged

Have you taken any comparison photos? They are great for highlighting changes that we can't see in the mirror. Are you still losing weight or have you been on a bit of a stall?

    Recreational Drugs

You are kidding right? Cocaine is highly addictive, and just because someone doesn't become addicted on first or second use doesn't mean they won't become addicted the the more they use it, typically they need to use more to get the high that it gives. Secondly addiction transfer in the bariatric community is high, no longer able to salve or get highs from food some people turn to acohol and drugs.

    Masturbation

The poster 'fussyeater' who revived this thread is likely a spammer/advertiser, the three threads they have revived are about sex in some way. There was another new member who joined the same day, yesterday that poster posted links for viagra like products.

    It's going slow

19lb in three weeks is great, some people lose more some people lose less. It's hard not to do, but comparing our weight loss at this this with others really robs of us joy. If your doctor didn't give any expectations of rate of weight loss at this perhaps you are placing undue pressure onself by expecting to have lost weight quicker? I was advised my my doctor and dietician not to worry so much about weight loss in the first month or so, body is still healing, lots of inflammation, hormones as well as people progress through the food phases there will be days or even a week or so without weight loss. While it may feel concerning that weight loss appears to be slowing down, it is still only early stages and once your body heals and you are more incidentally active hopefully things will improve as long as you are following your post op guidelines. Is your doctor and/or dietician happy with your progress so far? You will find many posts on here about the 'three or four week stall' a lot of people experience it.
