    Questions

Are you on any acid reducing medication at the moment? Some surgeons prescribe for two to four weeks. You are two weeks post op and on pureed / soft foods? I know I wasn't comfortable with cottage cheese or scrambled eggs four weeks out and postponed them for a while. I doubt gas or acid reflu after everything you eatis normal. If you didn't experience this with liquids maybe it is too soon for you to do pureed/soft foods? I didn't start them until after about three and half weeks post op.

    Discouraging friends

Unfortunately unless someone has been overweight or obese and battled to lose weight they do not understand, even some overweight or obese people don't understand that WLS is not an easy way out. You can probably expect more people to be negative. You will find plenty of support on these forums as well as some relevant facebook groups if that is your thing. I am a very private person and no one knows of my VSG and only one person (if they didn't tell anyone else) knew about a prior procedure.
  3. Your BMI is great, a dexa scan would be useful now for you to know your body composition lean body mass % vs body fat %, it will give you a basis to move forward in building lean body mass and take the focus off the scales.

Could be temporary lactose intolerance??? Some people seem to develop it after surgery.

    Antibiotics

I will be undergoing a treatment shortly for h. pylori it includes two antibiotics, the treatment was prescribed by my weight loss surgeon. So I am guessing not but I am no medical expert. I am concerned about the good bacteria that will likely die off as a result of the treatment so will be ensuring plenty of probiotics.

    Success So Far

As far as I am concerned there is no slow or fast, all weight loss is to be celebrated, that said, there is too much focus on scale weight, we neglect too many times the non scale successes..one being improved health and frame of mind, sounds like you have achieved both, well done, keep up the great work.

    Too much or too little?

I know of Brighton, don't think I have been there though. Australia is a wonderful place to live, but like all countries has challenges

    Too much or too little?

I forgot to ask whereabouts in UK you are? I was born in Manchester, came to Australia with the family when I was a teenager.
  10. I do too. While my real profile is locked down tight, I do like being anonymous in the groups.

    Too much or too little?

You've had great success with your weight loss so far and as we get closer to goal it does slow down. I wouldn't say you were overeating on your calorie intake. How are you feeling with those calories? Feel hungry or do they satisfy you? And at about 10months out you'd be expected to be eating more, but perhaps those more experienced with the stage you are at could tell you if you are eating a little too many. Some people have had some success in breaking stalls by temporarily increasing their calories for a week or two and then dropping back. Other have had success with intermittent fasting, don't know if that's your thing. Keep working on those fluids! It's a shame your nutritionist isn't doing telehealth appointments at the moment. I will be chatting with my dietician next week over the phone..I know its not the same as a face to face but it useful for me to touch base with her.

    Too much or too little?

What is your height and current weight? Gender? This will help determine if your calorie allowance is too much, too little or just right, not that we are necessarily experts but the information may help us in our responses to you. With regards to food are you actually weighing and/or measuring with calories so that you know your calorie intake is accurate? Or are you just eyeballing it/guestimating? Using a food diary/calorie counting app to keep track of daily calories? Getting plenty of non calorie fluids? What type of food are you consuming? No recent medical conditions or medication that slows down weight loss? How are you measuring the calorie burn for the walking? It seems a little high??

    June 2020 surgeries

Be careful some surgeons may cancel surgery if their patiet gains weight or don't meet any weight loss goals set for pre surgery. Make the best of your time between now and your surgery.
  15. As I recall only pain relief they put through my IV drip was panadol (or something similar) and I while I bought some panadol for the plane trip home I didn't need it. Like Catwoman the only pain or morelike discomfort was getting in and out of bed.
  16. Aaah so the hospital require is perhaps more about the driving....I had a five minute walk to the hospital from my accommodation and arranged an for an uber driver (who did work outside of uber) to pick me up. I found him on gumtree when I had an endscope prior to the surgery a few weeks before, as it was a day procedure I definitely needed someone to pick me up then and they had to come to the ward after the hospital had called them. Following the surgery I was able to call him and meet him downstairs at the drive through pick up point. If my bag hadn't been a little heavy I would have walked back to my hotel. He took me to the airport the next day. Once home, I probably shouldn't have driven but my car was at the airport, it was a 10 minute drive on a back road with no traffic. Can you tell your friend you will be having a hernia or gall bladder surgery?
  17. I live by myself and I travelled by myself for surgery. Not sure how long your will be in hospital following the surgery, I was there for two nights, spent one night in hotel accommodation. Travelled home and was required to spend 14 nights in quarantine by myself. Not sure why you'd actually need anyone with you unless you are actually feeling unwell or you feel like you need the support of someone there. My recovery was pretty good though, very little gas pain ( I was up walking within hours of the surgery and walked a lot after that,), there was some soreness around the incision sites but nothing unbearable. I had no nausea or vomiting either, I did feel something like a cramp in my stomach when I first started liquids but it gone within seconds.

    Failure

You will get very many varied responses, particularly as you posted the same thing four times. Doesn't sound like you took your investigatins further when your weight lost stalled. Have you now? Had an endoscope? Not sure what thoughts you are after? But if you want a bypass revision, talk to your doctor and get a referral to a surgeon and discuss your surgery options. But you one step ahead of where you've been for the past few years and its a start.
  19. I am a fairly private person too, no one knows about my revision. Just because someone asks doesn't mean you need to answer...ignore the question, change the subject etc.
  20. Your surgeon would be the best person to guide you as to when you can play soccer again.
  21. What exercise equipment impulse buy have you bought in the past that lay under the bed or in the cupboard never seeing the light of day, but now due to quarantining or self isolating has become a lot more useful to you? I had bought a gorilla bow resistance band system, it was very much an impulse buy. Sat under the bed for months, earlier this year I tried to sell it on gumtree received not one enquiry. Now a little over a month out from my surgery and with gyms being closed, it and I have been having little workouts to complement my walking. Early days yet but I am enjoying it and thankful that I didn't sell it. My only regret is I was in too much of a hurry to buy and didn't wait for the newer lite or traveller versions..

How Bad is the Flight Home?

I had my sleeve surgery on a Wednesday and flew home the Saturday. I had planned on staying longer after my surgery but due to possible plane cancellations (coronavirus) I flew home earlier. Surgeon said I could fly home the Friday if I wanted, I definitely wasn't up to the Friday. Decided to see how I felt the the following day and I felt fine to fly. I travelled solo, so my issue was my suitcase, thankfully I had packed light and used proper manual handling technique to put my case on the belt at check in, and again when picking up the case at arrivals. That was more a drag off the belt and onto the floor. My flight was about 1hr 45minutes - all good there. I didn't need to get up and walk about due to gas pains or anything. I think the biggest worry for you is (1) you don't know yet how you are going to feel after the surgery and if you will be feeling well enough to travel (2) lack of possible social distancing after surgery, not sure I would want the risk of catching covid19 (just after surgery or anytime for that matter) now that it has blown out...hopefully more reined in by then though. (There was only 19 people on my flight home due to massive cancellations back in March and I had no one around at all). What surgery are you having? You may need more time following a bypass? Is your surgeon happy for you to fly four hours after surgery two days before ? Not able to stay an extra night at a hotel somewhere?
  25. My timing info will probably useful/of interest for anyone in Australia and who have a revision from ESG to sleeve. ESG is not covered by medicare or private health insurance in Australia so no real requirements other than some blood tests. Could have had my ESG within three or four weeks of my initial appointment with the doctor, however, I delayed the procedure for some leave that was already planned a few months away. 18 months later for my revision to sleeve I went out of state to a surgeon who had already done ESG conversions to sleeve (some will only do bypasses). I was fortunate, the office arranged for me to have an endoscope the day following my initial consult and from there it was less about one month to my sleeve. I had some bloods taken in between, Medicare/private health insurance covered this one but I did have out of pocket costs. There were no required to lose weight prior to the surgery or pysch clearances. There was one appt with the dietician (did that the same day as my initial consult) and two appointments following the surgery.
