    Surgery buddies out there??

There is a July 2020 thread on the go at the moment, you will likely find someone or lots of someones there.
  2. I had a ESG in Oct 2018 and you will from my signature that I had a revision to a surgical sleeve in Mar 2020 as most of my sutures had come undone. There are a number of people that have had good success with ESG and a number didn't have success. Some failures were due to lack of doctor technique/skill and knowledge, lack of compliance, and for some regardless of how well their compliance or how well the surgeon did the ESG the sutures just didn't hold. There aren't too many people on bariatricpal with ESG currently so if you are on facebook there are a few ESG groups, one large group (mostly Americans) and a smaller ESG failure group (mostly Australians). My recovery from ESG was relatively easy, I had some rolling stomach cramps the first couple of days. Follow your post-op guidelines as exact as you can, don't go over volumes specified you don't want your sutures to loosen.

    covid test

I had the covid swab not for surgery but because in my state in Australia, anyone with cold, cough or flu symptoms can be tested free of charge. The swab at the back/side of the throat tickled, the nose swab was uncomfortable but that didn't last long. It really was a non-event.

    Sleeve

How many days after your surgery do you intend to walk your dog? I was up to flat walks within about five days of surgery, but always best to check with your surgeon. One thing to consider too is your dog good on the lead or does the dog continually pull on it?

It is hard but doable, how much longer for your surgery?

    6 Month Pre-Op Diet Question

I guess it would depend on your surgeon's/clinic pre-op guidelines/specifications. Are you on a specific program and if so when is your next check in/weigh in? Do you have time to lose some weight before the next weigh in? Past few months have been trying for a lot of people hopefully they will understand.

In Limbo (not the fun kind)

How disappointing for you. Hopefully it is all resolved quickly once the surgeon knows the results of the echo.

    Band to Mini bypass

I am pretty sure they will have you up walking as soon as you are able. Hope it all goes well for you.

    Weight loss after sleeve

Surgery brings a lot of inflammation and fluid (which adds extra pounds) it can take a while for all that to reduce. It can take a while for the weight loss to settle in.

    Weight loss after sleeve

What is your current weight? The lower the current weight the lower the weight losses. In addition to that, as we progress through the food stages there are typically stalls. Your surgeon's food plan progresses a little quicker than some and you may be experiencing a stall. If you lost a lot of weight on the pre-op plan just before surgery your immediate post op weight loss is likely to be lower as well. What working out are you doing? Walking? All that said, 6lb is pretty good and shouldn't be discounted.

    Post OP wounds

They have all dissolved bar one and the sites are mostly smooth.
  13. Have you been walking? Passing wind?

    Post OP wounds

I assume the knots are at the incision sites? How big are the knots? I was able to feel the dissolvable stitches with my incisions but they didn't feel like big knots

    June 2020 surgeries

I am in Australia so it may be different, I had surgery on a Wednesday and left hospital on the Friday, would have been Saturday if the senior nurse hadn't prompted the surgeon to come in and discharge me. I've seen a couple cases of people going home the same day in USA not sure if because their insurance won't cover for more days in hosptial or if the current virus situation is prompting early discharge. Have you spoken to your surgeon about your concerns. I would have thought being in hospital an extra day or two would allow them to keep you hydrated with iv fluids and also allow for pain mangement.
  16. There was a lot of blurb in it, but the one thing that was easy to understand was the body fat percentage (it was very high) and the lean body mass. It was interesting to see where the fat actually was in the body in pic/scan provided. I assume the report included body fat and lean body mass percentages?

    New here, half way through

Hello and welcome. It's good your office is being helpful with your appointments, it's a shame your insurance company is making you and others jump through even more hoops. Time goes quickly, it will be surgery day beore you know it!
  18. A good idea. Myfitnesspal allows users to ignore the subforums they are not interested in, it works great.

    Hair loss

I had surgery mid March and just this week I have noticed more hair loss. I had been waiting for it! I have shortish curly hair but my hair texture has always been fine. Will be interesting to see how the next few months plays out. I found this an interesting read even though it isn't specifically about weight loss surgery. https://www.hairguard.com/hair-loss-after-surgery-recovery/
  20. I don't have one but may get one as I get closer to goal weight, but I had a dexa scan before my initial weight loss procedure and wouldn't mind getting another one in a few months as a comparison. In Australia there are a fex dexa scan clinics and we can get a dexa scan a little cheaper with a referral from a doctor. Unfortunately in my state can only have a dexa scan for bone density so I will wait until I am out of state for holidays and get the comparison one done then.
  21. There are some at home scales that have body fat analysers and they will give you a rough estimate as hydration levels or lack of hydration as well as time of time of use and other factors can cause a large variance to the actual %. https://www.choice.com.au/health-and-body/diet-and-fitness/weight-loss/buying-guides/body-fat-scales DEXA scan would be an accurate measure however they can be expensive and you would need to go to a clinic. Some personal trainers can use calypers and body measurements but again probably not accurate as the results will vary on their technique, sites chosen and experience.
  22. Why? You are doing great, you are nearly at a healthy BMI (though body fat percentage is probably a better indicator of health), seems to me you are doing great.
  23. At your current weight that is not slow at all, it does us no favours to be comparing ourselves to others, celebrate your losses you are doing great.

    5 month post op update

    Sweet Tooth

There is: go back to basics, counting calories along with a balanced food intake. Use a calorie counting app if that helps, set your profile to lose 1lb or 2lb per week...it will set calories based on your current weight, height, gender, incidental actiivities...give it a go for at least three to six months. If you are overeating due to emotional eating, look for activity based things to do that can replace the emotional eating. Angry go for a brisk walk or boxing class, stressed a soak in a relaxing bath, lonely or bored visit a friend or family member or even give volunteering a go. Maybe consider counselling if you aren't able to rein in the emotional eating. If it portion creep and your portion sizes have increased a lot, go back to using smaller plates and bowls so as to encourage smaller portions. You could also consider visiting a dietician for some guidance and/or consider a revision weight loss surgery.
