June Sleevers Post Op
Hop_Scotch replied to srgrl08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Took me about two or three weeks possibly a little longer before I could sleep on my side. To make myself more comfortable haid a v shaped pillow which leant against two other pillows that were flat, it helped me sleep on a bit sitting up. With the standing upright, I remember being a bit ginger about standing tall, but possibly that was about the same time...I was able to stand tall as soon as I was able to get out of bed without needing to roll out of bed. -

Tonic surgery in UK
Hop_Scotch replied to pandajimjams183's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Are there any local weight loss surgery facebook groups for your area? You may get some responses there. It does seem a bit of a rort though, paying for a private room but not going on a ward instead. -
Awesome!

You are going to have to work harder at resisting food that is not part of your post op food guidelines for a couple of reasons...one you don't want to compromise your sleeve as your stomach is still healing, secondly you will very likely compromise your weight loss. The cravings you are feeling may well be acid reflux if you aren't taking medication to reduce stomach acid. If they continue you may need to talk to your doctor to check. If its genuine hunger maybe add some tasteless protein powder to your soup or blend/puree some minced meat or minced chicken with your soup - give it a good blend/puree so that the minced meat is mostly liquidified.

What type of foods are you eating? Are you getting plenty of none calorie fluids? Still on medication to reduce stomach acid?

I am always wary of first time posters posting links...makes me think about spammers and scammers. Where exactly does the link go and what type of tips does it offer? -
Bleeding from incision
Hop_Scotch replied to abiebaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad it was easily resolved for you, great to see that you didn't stew over it and contacted the doctor and got it sorted. -
You are an adult (I assume) you can do what you want. Some surgeons do test before surgery for nicotine and will cancel the surgery if necessary. I do get a sense you are trolling though.

Dr. Duc Vuong is my new (bariatric) spiritual guide
Hop_Scotch replied to Suzi_the_Q's topic in The Lounge
I had a look at his facebook page yesterday and he now created a new facebook page for the HGH gel MLM scheme, so his facebook page now focusses again on WLS etc. Hopefully he has done the same with his youtube channel or at the very least clearly marks his videos, -

Hop_Scotch replied to Suzi_the_Q's topic in The Lounge
Yeah...no. He doesn't do surgery anymore, he is more into multi level marketing (pyramid schemes). Some of his earlier videos have a lot of merit but the longer the time has lapsed since he has done surgery and more into MLM and getting rich (his workshops and conferences now focus more on MLM and networking) the less merit he brings. -
You many be feeling hungry because of the return of the hunger hormone ghrelin. There is also the possibility that you are not eating sufficient to sustain your body's basic needs. You may want to start tracking your calories, see where you are at and you can go from there.

Do you know how many calories a day you are eating? What about your macos - protein, carbs, fats? Are you doing a lot of exercise, what type?

To tell or not to tell
Hop_Scotch replied to Michael2428's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One person knows of my first weight loss procedure (assuming that is they didn't tell anyone else), no one knows I had second one and as far as they are concerned I had gall bladder surgery. In hindsight I should have said hernia operation in case my gall bladder does play up and I need it removed. Do what feels comfortable and is best for you, be ready if you are asked about your weight loss, particularly if it is fast weight loss. -
Perhaps some counselling may help??

Do you miss the social parts?

Is it possible that the managers would let you bring something small to eat if you speak to them beforehand? You could some soup or something easy in a food flask if so. -
Shopped Post Op Diet Plans

Your surgeon or dietician didn't have their own post op food plan for you? -
Is this after taking vitamins? Or perhaps a strong caffeine drink on an empty stomach?

What surgery did you have? Hungry or is it acid reflu? -
Post op diets vary significantly, it is always best to follow your surgeon's or dietian's guidelines. I had two weeks liquid then went onto pureed for a couple of weeks followed by a four weeks mnced/soft graduating to soft/normal in that four weeks. My dietician had on her list for pureed foods: high protein (low sugar) yoghurts, custard (I did this once only as I found it too sweet and triggered my sweet tooth), scrambled egg, cottage and ricotta cheese, sandwich style tuna (spreadable), blended soups and the like such as casseroles...but they had to be highly blended. Was also advised to supplement with protein drinks if needed.

ESG Scheduled for June 24- Anyone else?
Hop_Scotch replied to jenlp88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Seems to be worse in Australia probably because it is a newer procedure there (hence lack of technique/skill), procedure has been in USA a few more years so technique/skill seems to be a lot better. Only a few days to go, hope your pre-op diet is going well for you. -
Something seems fishy...
Hop_Scotch replied to Suzi_the_Q's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The PT's goal weight gives a BMI of 30, which is my current BMI - believe me there is still plenty of body fat there. You'd have to be really really muscular to have a BMI of 30 without any excess fat. -

Hop_Scotch replied to Suzi_the_Q's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aside from the fact that body fat analysers can be a off due to hydration levels plus some factors...your lean body mass will change as you lose weight. That said, it isn't up to your PT to determine what your goal weight should be that is something between you and your surgeon or doctor to agree on initially. Somewhere along the way you as you get closer to that initial goal weight you way want to reassess it. Once you have lost some weight and are closer to a healthy BMI that may a good time to get an accurate scan (DEXA if possible) on body composition to help determine final goals, assuming, that is, that you want to use body composition for that purpose. -
