5 years post op and have huge REGRET!
Hop_Scotch replied to escape_pinacolada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately not every surgery ends all rosy, there are some surgery complications and some people do have issues in the medium to long term. If you don't want to see anything that you perceive to be discouraging, negative and anxiety inducing you will need to give a lot of threads a miss or not be on social media at all. The OP came for support and encouragement too and should be able to tell there story. -
5 days post vsg surgery
Hop_Scotch replied to Thicc chick 504's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starving or stomach acid causing issues? If you are feeling genuine hunger once are onto solid foods this will help reduce the feeling as the solid food will cause more restriction (and it will tell the brain you have had sufficient calories). -
Gastric Sleeve Nerves and Anxiety! Questions!
Hop_Scotch replied to nat2013's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric sleeve surgery mid March - it went great, and definitely worth it! I had discomfort around the incision sites but wasn't particularly sore. Getting in and out of bed was hard for a little while. I didn't experience any gas pain, I did a lot of loops around the ward. I did experience stomach spasms where I was first able to have fluids but it was generally on the first sip and this went within a couple of days. I had two weeks off work and while no significant pain or issues I don't think I would have been up to going back to work sooner. If you don't sit at a desk all day you may find it difficult to go back to work. You want to make sure you are in a position to sip water most of the day as well as get your full liquids in. I haven't experienced nausea or vomiting at all. The worse for me intense contact dermititis from the incision bandaids and the discomfort getting in and out of bed (which probably lasted less than a week). So far no side effects other than weight loss -
Are you taking any stomach acid reducing medication? Excess stomach acid (for the amount of food/drink currently being consumed) can feel sometimes feel like hunger.

So you have lost 9lb in less than three weeks? So many variables and you haven't completed your profile. What is your height, surgery day weight, did you lose a lot of weight in the weeks leading up to surgery? What is your daily menu right now, are you getting your fluids in? You way also want to search on here for the term three week stall, not everyone stalls at three weeks but generally as people progress through the post op food stages some will stall as their body adjusts to the weight already lost and the new foods. Regardless of the answers to the questions above, I think 9lb is pretty good, nothing only about it.

That is madness that they would go ahead with the surgery. I can't even fathom.

New and Scared

Losing weight / weight loss surgery isn't a punishment its a life saver, so if you've cheated you've only cheated yourself out of an early death should you have had any weight related health issues going forward. You are only a few days out you shouldn't be exercising a lot, most you should be doing now is probably some walking but it doesn't have to be punishment. You may benefit from counselling sooner than later - maybe something for you to consider. As to what you should be consuming for the next two weeks didn't your surgeon or dietician give your some post of guidelines as to what you should be consuming for what period of time? Timeframes may vary, but most post op guidelines include clear liquids, full liquids, pureed foods, soft foods then normal. Some post op guidelines have shorter time frams for each phase others have longer time frames. There is a variety of post op guidelines and its always best to follow the ones provided to you by your medical team. hopefuly they have provided you with some, if not, any on the surgeon's website? Or perhaps call the office. For my liquid phase I could have plain milk or protein enhanced milk, protein shakes, strained soup like cream of chicken or mushroom, yoghurt blended with milk to thin it out, protein water, broth. -
Have I ruined my pre-op diet irrevocably?
Hop_Scotch replied to MoominMan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't think of the pre-op diet just as a liver shrinking diet, think about it as practice for post op. While you may be losing weight and hopefully the liver shrinking you aren't doing yourself any favours with the fast food. It's not a useful habit for weightloss and very easy to do once your are post op. Start developing a new habit one that is more useful for achieving your weight loss goals, one that will be useful for post op. -
2 day post op pain
Hop_Scotch replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may be that yoghurt and cottage cheese are too much two days post op. I know post op guidelines vary greatly from surgeon to surgeon/dietician to dietician, but at post op day 2 most people are consuming liquids only. My liquids was for two days, then purees for a week or so, then soft foods for another week or so. Did you get post op guidelines from your surgeon or dietician do they include yoghurt and cottage cheese at this stage? Maybe try liquids (broths, protein shakes, protein water, creamed soup (with no bits and pieces) etc for a few days see how you go. I was to attempt 1/2 (half) cup at a time but go slowly and stop if felt restriction before the 1/2 cup was finished. -

Concerned about vegetables and fruit
Hop_Scotch replied to joleza's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well to be fair she is a nurse not a dietician or nutritionist...don't listen to her at all. Does your program have a dietician? That is who you should be listening to. Vitamins are supplement, they are to meet the needs of what you can't get from food, there is no reason that you can't have veg and fruit once you are past the liquid stages...you may want to take it easy on some of the starchier ones for a while though. -
Well done and thank you for sharing!

How much guidance are you receiving before bypass surgery
Hop_Scotch replied to Myturn4me's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am sure as you did so much homework that you would have made sure the dietician you saw was experienced in your preferred surgery method and had received good reviews. Just because we disagree or don't like what a professional dietician tells us, doesn't make them clueness, perhaps its means we don't have an open mind. -

Have lost way too much weight
Hop_Scotch replied to sammi123's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Do you know how many calories you are eating? If not, it would be a good place to start - weigh/measure everything that goes into your mouth, calculate your current daily intake. Use a calorie tracker website to work out how much you need to eat to gain and then maintain. Increase your calorie intake slowly so as it may take a few weeks to get to the point that you are eating enough to gain some weight reassess as you go. Eat more calorie dense foods (if you are able, hopefully these will have less volume and not cause you to feel full too quickly) to get your calorie intake up: Foods such as nuts, nut butters, good oils, normal products instead of low fat, low calorie etc. Some others may have some insight on this. -
First Consultation Complete - almost had a panic attack
Hop_Scotch replied to nothopelessyet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Probably a good thing you aren't having an ESG, a lot of those procedures are not as durable as they should be, plus the VSG reduces the hunger hormone for a period of time as that part of the stomach is removed. Hope it all goes well for you! -

Surgery for non-weight reasons?
Hop_Scotch replied to cmac1mcB's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thankfully the bot posts are being removed fairly quickly, but they do leave behind unexplained and posts that don't make sense, from now on I shall report but not comment -
Perhaps people working from home are busier than ever, time that would have been spent travelling to and from work is now more time working from home, they may have children they need to care for, to home school, other loved ones that need caring for, people volunteering to help others, making masks, etc. It is indeed a disappointing original post, and no doubt you will have some people support the opinion, but to me it clearly lacks empathy.

You are doing great already, maybe you are more motivated than you think you are
