An American Football Rookie at 48!

Hope you have lots of fun playing! I have to say you do look like an athlete and now you are.

    Gastric Sleeve vs Roux-en-y

I would think that people can gain weight back with either procedure but possibly less so with the bypass due to the malabsorption. One thing to consider if you already suffer acid reflux/GERD the sleeve may make it worse.

    What diet barbaric after surgery

Diet after surgery will depend on the guidelines given by your doctor or dietician. They do greatly vary but mostly the phases are clear liquid, all liquids, puree, soft and then solid foods...the timelines will vary a lot.

    What am I doing wrong?

For your start weight I think 9lb is great, you had a lowish start weight and your losses are not going be as high as people who weigh a lot more.

    What am I doing wrong?

So how tall are you and what did you weigh on surgery day?

Your profile may be set to private, it is not displaying

    What am I doing wrong?

You are likely not doing anything wrong. You haven't put your stats on your profile: height, surgery day weight - these are helpful to other members to give an appropriate response.

    yellow eyes

If my skin was jaundiced I wouldn't be attempted to do (or attempting) anything at home, I'd be going to the doctor ASAP.

    How often to eat?

How many meals a day are you eating? I was meant to eat a max 1/2 cup six times a day, initally depending on what I was eating I couldn't eat half a cup and certainly couldn't do six times a day along with trying to get water in

Recent RNY - How ya doing?

Great effort, well done! I bet your clothes notice the difference, they must have been falling off you and you'd be into complete new sizes now. You'd be feeling a lot lighter on your feet too. If you had any weight related health issues, have they started to improve yet?

    Carnivore?

i would think if calories are below maintenance level that excess protein would not turn into fat as the body would convert it for use as energy (or for other purposes). There are a number of resources on the web, some say excess converted to fat, others say not. Interesting concept. https://www.mensjournal.com/food-drink/can-too-much-protein-make-you-fat/

20 month mark but not losing weight.

Yes but it will take a lot of work on your behalf now that you are close to a healthy BMI. Essentially you need to be counting calories and monitoring macros. Work out our calories for weight loss given your gender, height, current weight and activity levels (use a calorie counting website if you aren't already), set your profile for weight loss, use the daily allowance given, weight and measure very thing that goes pass your lips and track your calories. Bear in mind that some of the weight you want to lose is likely skin weight as your body fat percentage may already be in the healthy weight range. As you get closer to the healthy weight range weight loss is lower and slower.

    Anyone for August 2020

Make sure you do plenty of walking. Speak up to the nurses or surgeon if you continue to experience pain.

    Anyone for August 2020

I don't have a gastric bypass but if you look at the bypass forums you will likely find some posts from those who are (or were) one day out to a week or two out from surgery. It isn't far off for you, hope it all goes well for you

    Anyone for August 2020

If you are still on full liquids, weetbix even runny may be too thick for you. If your post op guidelines allowed for it at this point may be delay for a few more days. if they didn't please do the best for you and your new stomach by following the guidelines.

    I still can't drink water

Try different temperatures as well as different no calorie drinks as you may be able to tolerate them better...peppermint tea, herbal teas, fruit fusion teas etc.

    Hospital Stay

I travelled for my surgery solo and was in hospital for two nights without any visitors, I was fine, in fact, I generally prefer to be alone when I am not feeling well or need to recover from things.

5 years post op and have huge REGRET!

@Zinthis, It is against forum guidelines to shame people for their choice of surgery.
  20. Hopefully someone with similar issues will response to your query before too long. I haven't had such issues I am wondering if you have ever tried a low FODMAP food diet? It may bring some relief if you have a low tolerance to FODMAP food items.

    Anyone for September 2020?

I am a March sleever but thought I would pop in to say hello. Your surgery will be here before you know it, hope it all goes well for you!

    Rny revision

There will be frequent stalls along the way, make sure you are following your surgeon's and/or dietician's guidelines and you should be fine, weight loss will catch up. If you need to refer back to your dietician for assistance.

    Bartric

I am guessing that is up to your surgeon and/or insurance company. Have you clarified what the exact requirements are?
  24. Hop_Scotch

    Weight not going down!

You haven't inconvenienced us, we only mention it to show you how common stalls are in the first few weeks, to show that you are not alone in this.

    Feeling Deprived!

I had read previously that the impact of very low calories on BMR due to WLS surgery is different than someone who consumes very low calories without surgery (as in the biggest loser shows)...it was written by Dr David Fung, the doctor who advocates for fasting (he said fasting had the same impact on BMR as weight loss surgery). I will see if I can find that piece. I did find this though, you may find it useful https://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/your-metabolism-how-it-works-with-wls-pre-op-long-term/ And this as well https://thefastingmethod.com/biggest-loser-diet-explained/
