It's very likely just a temporary weight gain due to the three or four week stall or just the change from liquids/pureed foods to soft. It happens. Keep on your post op guidelines and you will be fine.

Generally at least 2ltrs (or the equivalent in oz) is recommended, however, we do get some fluid from foods. Some people need less some people need more. Best way to tell if you are getting sufficient fluids is the colour of your pee, it should be pale yellow. It's difficult to tell though when taking vitamins as they usually colour pee a dark yellow.

March surgeries
Hop_Scotch replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am guessing you haven't eat 7lb worth of excess calories. It is very likely fluid retention due to hormones, as your hormones balance out as you go through your cycle, the fluid retention will lessen. Keep up the fluids, keep on doing your post op program, you'll be fine. -

VERY SLOW WEIGHT LOSS PLEASE HELP
Hop_Scotch replied to kbrookings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Those 5lb in the first week of a heavily restricted diet are likely to be 4lb of fluid loss. You've already lost any fluid retention so you won't see any of those big fluid losses. At your current weight of 216lb you are not going to be losing 5lb a week on an ongoing basis, it isn't sustainable. 2lb a week is great though it may not seem like it to you. -
Probably not a bad idea when you think about it. Some vitamins pills/capsules can be quite large - we have difficulty swallowing them in the first few weeks, so avoiding them initially isn't a bad thing. Plus for some of those who can manage to get them down they (or even the taste of them) can cause nausea while in recovery mode.

Fluids will typically go straight through the stomach and some people can tolerate more straight off. If you are drinking more than your post op guidelines suggest you should be able to manage at this point, don't drink so much or maybe have a chat with your surgeon or contact at the surgeon's office.

MyFitnessPal vs. Baritastic
Hop_Scotch replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I thought the way MFP handled the breaches were quite good. The hackers got user names, email addresses and passwords only, members were advised fairly quickly and if I remember correctly we forced to changed passwords straight away. For some companies we don't hear about the data breaches or we don't about them until some months after the company has known. Unfortunately data breaches are fact of life now, and some companies deal with them better than others. Of importance is acknowledging the breach to users/members/clients, what they do to rectify and mandatory password changes, etc. -
Barring any medical reasons eg thyroid issues, compromised metabolism for other reasons or medication that causes weight gain, we gain weight when we eat calories over what our bodies use for energy. We can only speculate and a couple of things to be considered are eating a lot more calories than realising eg very calorie dense food; or secret eating.

Are you taking acid reducers? It may well be physical hunger you are feeling but it could also be that you are thirsty or excess stomach acid.

Pre-op. Clear liquid diet cheated!!!
Hop_Scotch replied to HungryWildRose's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I assume the clear liquid diet to help your stomach and bypass heal without overloading them. Perhaps have a chat to your dietician or your surgeon see if they think you have recovered enough to progress to the next food stage early. -
I can't remember the exact number of weeks, but it was a quite a few before I felt comfortable to sleep on my side.

Be careful with gum just yet. Chewing gum activates the process of digestion which includes stomach acid, except there is no food to digest. The excess stomach acid could hurt your new stomach that is healing as well as cause acid reflux. Maybe chew on some ice chips...not savoury I know. It would be long before you progress through the food stages. Maybe find some thing to distract you when you crave the chewing/savoury sensation, something that keeps your mind and hands busy.

Lying about not getting surgery is awful
Hop_Scotch replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Strong first post. Live and let live I say, though I am one of the people who chose to 'lie' because it's my business and no one elses. Tell me why you think not being honest hurts others who need surgery? -
When can I resistance train after VSG?
Hop_Scotch replied to Qamilian1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe be best to contact your surgeon's office to check if its okay to do. But if it isn't okay to do right now I can't imagine it would be too far off given you are almost two months out. -
It would really help with context if those asking filled in their profiles...surgery type, surgery day weight, current weight. Regardless of that, sounds like you are doing fine to me, we are all different, lose weight differently and type of surgery and post op guidelines differ too. Factor in any pre surgery weight loss, if this is high, post op weight loss in the first month or two will seem lower than others.

There is a big March 2021 thread on the go at the moment, you will find many people who are at the same stage as yourself.

Goal rewards—suggestions?
Hop_Scotch replied to GreenThumb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are some good plastic/cosmetic surgeons in Thailand, a lot of have undertaken fellowships in USA, Australia and elsewhere. While cheaper in Thailand (when compared to Australia), over the last few years pre-covid, the price gap started closing, but definitely still worthwhile considering as long as due diligence is undertaken for surgeon/hospital. As an example, price list from a medical tourism agent (prices in Thai Baht, AUD, NZ) https://destinationbeauty.com/plastic-surgery-thailand-pricelist/ https://destinationbeauty.com/deal/ -
IF isn't necessarily about just eating two meals a day, its about eating your daily calorie intake (and some may eat lower than maintenance calories) in a shortened time frame and fasting for a period of time whether its 10, 12, 14 or more hours. This thread may be useful to look through

Not sure if you are complaining that you can or happy that you can? If complaining, just because you can doesn't mean you should. If happy, with the ice cream and rice be mindful about moderation/balance.

Dumping syndrome and 3 week stall of weight loss
Hop_Scotch replied to Cajunincheesetown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
15 days out from surgery and you are running? Did your surgeon okay that? If so, great, if not maybe you should speak to your surgeon to get the ok. The bleeding may be due to the stomach jolting while running. -
What surgery? Sleeve, RNY or ?? Pain is not surprising but hopefully they have you on some pain meds. If gas, walking may help. I walked a few laps every hour, even if I was awake in the middle of the night. I didn't actually feel any pain from gas, I did feel discomfort around the incision sites and getting up and out of bed was difficult.

Realistic time line for travel
Hop_Scotch replied to BarbaraI's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on a Wednesday and had originally planned to fly home the following Monday..about a 90 minute flight. My surgery was just at the start of the pandemic so my flight changed in the hope of avoiding a 14 day in home quarantine (that didn't work, but it wasn't a bad thing as it allowed me to recovery quitely at home). I was in hospital up to the Friday evening, surgeon would have been happy for me to stay another night as I was travelling solo. At my prompting I was released from hospital, stayed at my booked hotel for the Friday night and flew home on the Saturday afternoon. I had no issue flying, I took a couple of panadol as a precaution for pain. I was careful to bend at the knees to lift my case properly when checking in and when taking the bag off the carousel at arrivals. Even though I had originally planned to fly home on the Monday but flew home on the Saturday, with the threat of possible cancelled flights my surgeon said if I could get a flight out on the Friday evening there was on reason I couldn't fly home them. I didn't even bother trying for the Friday evening, the incisions were quite sore, but it was manageable Saturday afternoon for me. -
Post-op hair loss: men/folks with short hair
Hop_Scotch replied to james2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most people with WLS will have some type of hair loss due to the stress of surgery, low calories and the hair growth cycle. My hair isn't as short as yours but I do consider it shorter. My hair is curly and the individual hairs are quite fine. It did thin out as I got older (I am now 58). About three months post op it did fall out at a much greater rate than it usually did, this continued until fairly recently (maybe 4 or 5 weeks a go). It didn't get patchy/no bald spots. I don't think anyone noticed (other than me and my hairdresser) my thinning out hair during the increased hair loss cycle, but some of that may have been masked by my curly hair. I won't have the volume of my 20s and 30s but the volume is definitely increasing and I have no doubt it will go back to its pre-op volume. -
Taking your supplements? Drinking plenty of fluids? You may be focussing more on protein intake right now, but do you know an estimate on how many calories you are consuming daily?
