Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017
mstinak replied to Mary Stokley Gromer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yep, this seems to be one area that there's a lot of opinions on. My weight loss clinic is of the no, never group. Saying it is one thing that will quickly open up the pouch. I too stopped all carbonation 4 months pre-surgery. Even though most was zero calories, I dropped weight immediately. I know the last time I quit ONLY carbonated drinks I lost 20#. So there's that. -

Buddies Group - Surgery Dec 4 to 15, 2017

It is AMAZING how different this is for all of us. I was told, by the nurse on discharge, no napping unless I really needed too, but to move as much as possible. my weight limit to lift/push/pull is 10# (doesn't like a big difference, but it is twice as much when you think about it) Reading over everyones posts, even the diets the first 30 days show a lot of variation. So I think it shows there is some leeway in here for some of us that feel we are struggling to follow exact instructions? I think if everyone just tries to do their best, even if it's not perfect, are going to do very well in the long run! -

Congrats! I'm also having mine done on Dec 13th. At first it felt like forever, now it's looming large and I'm trying to get everything done for the holiday. -

Why is it a secret?

I suspect they are making a lot of assumptions. But it is about who they are as people, more then what their profession is, and I should have made that a little more apparent. Thankfully, the hospital I'm having my surgery, while the same that my niece works in, and her mother works in an attached facility, there is an entire floor for bariatric patients. Neither of them has any business to be on that floor. -

I have not told everybody. At least not in my family. Telling two in particular will not magically make them more supportive. I do tend to be of the camp of, it's medical, it's private, it's no ones business. At least until after any surgery is done. Those that need to know, know. Those I know genuinely care about me and will be supportive, do know. MY just turned 6 years old grandson. He knows. LOL He is so supportive, he's probably one of the two most supportive and encouraging. Though when I lost ten pounds, he told a neighbor I barely knew..."my gramma lost 10 pounds!" haha he was proud, but we had a discussion and so far so good. But not long ago I was at a family event. My sister (RN), my niece (RN), and I were talking about some medical issues and I'm not sure what came up but the one said something about...then you have those that have gastric bypass, and rolled her eyes. The other quickly followed up with "OH! Or they have the gastric SLEEVE done" and rolled her eyes. Yep they have no need to know. I don't need that kind of judgement and negativity in my life. -
Dec 13th. Hmm...I need to finish my christmas shopping/wrapping.

My surgeon/clinic is the same. They explained that they base the decision on BMI, I think they said 50 and higher were put on the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I was told to eat as I have been (following some of the tools my NUT and I discussed) and no big last meal hurrah. which could cause a surgery to be cancelled.

Recommendations for Surgeons PA-Southcentral

I'm going through UPMC Pinnacle Health Weight Loss Center in Harrisburg (surgery is at UPMC Pinnacle Osteopathic) Dr Rosenberger will be doing mine. The clinbic gives you a team environment. I waqs sold on them the first time I called after an appt and the recording said, press one if you are calling from a Drs office OR if you need to talk to your team. Most offices have you 3rd or 4th on the list. Here you are the prioirty. All the employees are awesome, my nutritionist is fab and friendly, and several of their employees have had weight loss surgery. Even the nurse at the hospital bariatric floor had WLS. When I had the EGD done, Dr Rosenberger came into the surgery smiling and singing to me. Gotta love happy people. From others I know, that had one of the other Drs, Dr. Marco, they all really like him too . My surgery isn't until Dec 13 2017, but they all have made me feel confident in my choice. and I'm excited!
