Recipe for Oatmeal Lovers
MrsGamgee replied to walk the talk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oatmeal is one of the things I've been missing most on my pre-op diet. I love this idea! Thanks for sharing. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app -
Okay, I may or may not have just lost my cool on my family. When prepping for surgery, I made a plan to make a bunch of freezer meals for my hubs and two wee-lings for the first two weeks post op, because I figured that I wouldn't be interested in cooking for them at that time. What I should have considered was how hard it would be to cook meals for them while being on the pre-op diet. I take pride in feeding my family mostly healthy, interesting meals. Tonight, while I was dishing up their dinners they were horsing around generally being pains in the butt, all three of them. One hungry mommy who hasn't eaten anything resembling comfort food in more than a week who's also dealing with wicked pms is not to be crossed when she's staring down the barrel of a pot of mashed potatoes and a tray of oven fried chicken. *sigh* And now I feel rotten.

Sick during surgery
MrsGamgee replied to VeeAurora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm with you VeeAurora. A cold has been making its way through my family over the last couple of weeks, and for the last few mornings I've woken up with a scratchy throat. I'm praying that it won't develop into anything, because when I get a cold it usually lasts for more than a week and surgery is next Thursday. Crossing my fingers and praying for both of us. -
Can I still have my VSG if I’m on my period?
MrsGamgee replied to Ruby Hernandez's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine is due to start on surgery day... so much fun. My nurse told me the same as above, tell the nurses day of and they'll get you what you need. And as soon as you're up and mobile afterward, you can use whatever you usually use. -
I'm having bypass surgery on May 16th. I've been on my pre-op diet since April 1... two phases. For the month of April I had 3 Glucerna shakes a day, one healthy meal of no more than 500 calories, and up to 300 calories of fruits and veg. A week ago I started phase 2, 5 glucerna shakes a day and up to 200 calories of veg (specific ones). I'm so sick of sweet and looking forward to post op when I'm able to try some savoury foods again.

I've heard that we shouldn't ever trust a fart, post op... but if the level of gas afterward is anything like what I've had through the liquid diet, I'm going to be in the bathroom more than I'm out. lol

Day 9 - meditation I've never been one for meditation, but I've been a little curious about the different apps to help. I'll spend some time today checking them out. B-side - caffeine post-op? My RD hasn't really said much about it, but then she knows I usually only have coffee once or twice a week at most. Mostly, I use it as a laxative... drink one cup and an hour later I'm as happy as a lark. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Nope, I asked. Now I just have to knuckle down and get through. 6 more days of shakes, and a day of clear liquids. Then this bit will all be a memory. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Thanks! Sadly, I don't have a lot of choice in the matter. I'm on 5 Glucerna shakes + 200 cal of veggies... that's it. Trying to stay active and not let the food thoughts overwhelm me. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Surgery release question
MrsGamgee replied to sunsetchaser's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hospital's instructions say no driving for 3 days and I'm not allowed walk home. We only live 2 blocks from the hospital, but my hubs will be going to get the car when I'm released. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app -
Day 8 - Crafting Sadly, no time for any sort of creativity today. They were able to salvage the info off the hard drive off my dead laptop, thank the good Lord, so today is devoted to trying to get all the essentials situated and accessible on my husband's computer. I have a class to teach tonight at my church and I need my lesson plans! Going to do my darnedest to get in my 12k steps today and push ups will definitely be happening before lunch. B-side: What can't WLS fix? The stuff that's always been in my head... the negative self-talk that tries to remind me that I'm a failure, that I'm going to screw this up too. That's something I have to continue to work on and face down every morning when I look in the mirror.

After a week of not having a computer, I'm sort of back up and running. They were able to salvage the info off my hard drive and transferred it to my husband's ancient laptop. I don't know how long it will last, but at least I have something to work with for now. Damn I hate being broke all the time.
I'm 8 days away from surgery, and the pre-op liquid diet is going sort of sideways. It's not the diet itself, but rather my hormone induced (read: intense pms) hunger and water retention. I'm constantly hungry, starving really and it feels like if someone were to prick my fingers, they would sprout fountains.
I've been hitting my 12000 steps per day most days, and getting close others (only missed on 2 days). I'm hopeful that I'll manage to lose the 3 pounds hanging over my head.

Day 7 - work up a sweat. With my walking workouts, I've been attempting to up my speed and intensity. Normally it take me 33ish minutes to get 4000 steps. Yesterday I was able to get that down to 29 minutes. And for at least one of my walks (I do 3) I have started using my 2lb weights to work my arms a bit too. Push ups will be done shortly! My countdown to surgery is in the double digits now! Woohoo! Have a great day everyone! Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Is this a horrible idea?
MrsGamgee replied to Palta's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with what Briswife said. You can change your mind at any point right up to surgery, so use the prep time to absorb all you can about it and what to expect afterwards. Ask questions, read everything you can, and learn about life post op. Weigh the benefits of change versus the benefits of staying the same. Someone on these boards suggested to make a list of what you'll miss post op compared to what you look forward to post op. For me, when I was totally honest with myself, it was truly eye opening. Be true to you and you'll make the choice you need to. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app -
One cruel twist of fate for me on this liquid diet... my week of PMS has started so not only am I retaining water like mad, but I'm also twice as hungry as usual. Grrr... Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

B side... I'm big on scrambled eggs, and they have to be dry. None of those soft squishy runny scrambled eggs for me. I've only recently (in the last couple of years) come to appreciate a runny yolk. I'm interested to see if my tastes change post op. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Hmmm... my clinic doesn't recommend protein shakes for the pre OP liquid diet (they prefer meal replacement shakes like Glucerna or optifast), but post they're totally fine with protein shakes. Have you looked into unflavored protein powder to add to soups, etc? Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

It's a method of cooking under water. You need a special appliance that fits on the side of a pot that keeps the water at a constant temperature. You place your meat in a ziploc or vacuum seal bag with whatever seasoning you like, then in the water. You brown the meat afterwards and it's supposed to be super tender and amazing. I'm sorry you've had a bumpy road this far and glad that you're on the far side of surgery. Hope your transition to real food goes smoothly! Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Yesterday was a bit of a write off for me... church, cooked a turkey for the fam (using some of the leftovers for freezer meals for them), and just lazed around. Didn't get my steps or push ups so I'm trying to make up for that today. Day 5 - garden. Not planting my balcony container garden this year. I might pick up some herbs later in the season when they're on sale. Can't imagine a summer without a big bunch of basil. Day 6 - talk to a friend. I have a weightloss buddy who is starting a new program today. Planning a phone call to check in on her and offer some encouragement. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

So, I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamt that I had an appointment with a surgeon (not my surgeon), a sort of final prep appointment. She did an examination of my abdomen and declared that I wasn't a candidate for surgery and that she would never would have suggested it for me. She said I should never have been in the bariatric program and I wouldn't be allowed to have the surgery. She was really quite mean about it. In the dream I went to my regular surgeon (who didn't look at all like my surgeon) and asked him why he had let me go through 2 years of prep only for me to be disapproved at the last minute. He said that he gets paid for everyone in the program, whether they have surgery or not. When I woke up I was so upset, it felt soooooo real. It was a solid 15 minutes of being awake before it sank in that it was only a dream. You think my poor brain is trying to process my anxiety and nerves?
