    Energy levels..

Am I correct in assuming that you are on your pre-op liquid diet? If so, I can empathize. I'm in week two of a 6-week hybrid liquid pre-op diet. Mid afternoon hits me really hard. Fatigue and brain fog big time. I'm not sure how long it lasts after surgery, but it is challenging for sure. Hang in there!
  2. I'm sure you know this, but it's worth the reminder... Estrogen is a fat soluble hormone that you've been storing for a long time (assuming you're female that is), and as you lose fat it is released back into your blood stream to wreak havoc on your emotional state. It's going to impact how you process the recovery process on an emotional level. Hang in there... you got this!

    THROWBACK THURSDAYS

This is from 10 years ago, when I was at my non-pregnant heaviest. My hubby and I took the trip of a lifetime to NYC as a much delayed honeymoon. We walked and walked and walked through that week and I was in so much agony the whole time. I've lost and gained and lost and gained and lost since then, and today I'm 71 pounds lighter than in that picture and moving toward something that is going to help me get much healthier. This is motivation for me... never again.

    Fears wls

I'm 5 weeks away from my surgery, and the anxiety seems to swing in every three or four days. The surgery itself doesn't scare me, but the anesthesia does. Along with post-op pain and/or complications. But the fears I used to have about dying of a heart attack before I turn 45 or ending up with needing a limb amputated due to diabetes are slowly fading into the background.
  5. I've had a lot of fun reading all these confessions! They make me feel less guilty about the slip I has last Friday (on my pre-op hybrid liquid diet)... I was feeling like crap because I woke up that morning with a UTI, and wasn't feeling like cooking for my family. My darling husband said he'd pick up dinner and came home with a bucket of chicken, which I more than willingly helped devour. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 11 - make a meal for one. Well that's easy these days, as I'm having Glucerna shakes 3 times a day. I have been experimenting with different flavourings to make them more palatable. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 10 - had a little chat with myself while walking in the rain. Also managed to get some blood work and an ECG done this morning. Feeling very productive. Off to do my squats and crunches.
  8. NSV this morning! I decided to try on a pair of size 16 jeans (from a plus size clothing store, so we all know they're probably closer to a size 18) and THEY FIT WITH ROOM TO SPARE! I haven't fit into these jeans comfortably for about 5 years. Woohoo! I have a serious love-hate relationship with this pre-op diet.

    Extremely rude nurse

I'm flabbergasted on your behalf. I think some sort of formal complaint to her supervisor or administration of the hospital is in order. I'm not sure what the process would be (sorry, I'm not much help), but this has to be addressed. I'm horrified that you and your family were treated in such a way. Introduction

6 months does seem to be the norm in the US. I was referred to my bariatric clinic a little over 2 years ago, and I've been in my program for 19 months, with surgery next month. But I'm in Canada, and it takes a while to get elective surgeries here.

    NSAIDs

And I was told the opposite about topical nsaids (I use them for pre menstrual back pain and knee pain)… that I should stay away from them post op. Just goes to show that there isn't a lot of consensus in the bariatric world.
  12. I've been struggling a little with hunger the last few days. I'm sure that it's mostly the antibiotics, because when I do eat a real meal (dinner time), I get full faster than I used to. My mom used to say that your stomach shrinks when you diet, but I never really believed her because I never experienced it in all my many diets. But this hybrid liquid diet thing is certainly doing its job... down 9 pounds in a week.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 8: Struggled to do a list of my accomplishments, but I will keep pondering it. B-side: I'm still figuring out my vitamins. I use Jamieson women's multi's and take an additional 2000iu of vitamin D. One of my pre-surgery goals is to get my vitamins sorted out. My dietician recommended chewable maternity vitamins, and I need to get some different B vitamins too. Day 9: Drinking water hasn't been a problem for me for years. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes when I was expecting our oldest, I got rid of all the sugary drinks in my life cold turkey. I regularly drink 60-80oz of water on a usual day, plus whatever I need when I'm active. I sometimes use different liquid enhancers (like Crystal Lite) but straight up cold water is great. I will confess that I was a Coke Zero junkie for a long time, but I have given it up for Lent and it won't be back.
  14. My surgeon asked for a 10% loss... 27lbs for me. It wasn't a firm expectation, and when I was struggling, in part due to one of my diabetes meds, they helped me get in to see a specialist to make some changes. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 7 - do nothing. Well other than going to church this morning and some food prep for my family (spicy egg salad for my daughter, steak marinating for tacos tonight, all the appropriate veggies for said tacos, and black bean salad), I haven't done much. My pre-OP diet is kicking my butt the last couple of days, but I'm getting through.
  16. Feeling a bit bummed out today. I know most of it is because I'm feeling gross with this damn UTI and being on antibiotics, but the pre-op diet is kicking my butt and I confess I slipped a little yesterday. Today I was snippy with my husband when he was eating his lunch... those damn smokies just smelled so good. I need to figure out how to manage around my family when they're eating and I can't. Tomorrow is a new day. Hoping that the meds start making me feel a bit better, at least well enough to get outside and walk in the sunshine.

Day 6: I'm a terrible baker (a saving grace really), but I'm going to attempt to make some mini muffins for my kids lunches next week.

    Easter candy problems

I think it's important to continue to have traditions, just not so many food focused ones. I'm not getting any hot cross buns this year either, and while my husband and son are bummed about it, my daughter did a happy dance... she doesn't like dried fruit.

Day 5: Deep Breaths I've needed a lot of deep breaths to get through today. An astronomical bill from the plumber, the 8yo informed me this morning that her glasses are broken, and I woke up this morning with a UTI. Fun times. B-side: I'm a follower for sure, but I'm usually very late to the party.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

#4 - Exercise. So far today my exercise has consisted of walking to and from my appointment at my clinic this morning. And pacing as I watch the clock on the plumber who gets paid by the hour to figure out why our only tub/shower isn't draining. We're 20 minutes into hour 2. Home ownership sucks sometimes.
  21. Had a great appointment today with my RN at the clinic. Lots of paperwork for the surgery... blood work req's, pre-op and post-op protocols for meds, and lots of questions. Good news is that I won't have to do the Opti-fast shakes provided that I keep things going the way they are right now. Yay for saving $$! I see my RN one more time, at the end of the month, and then it's on to surgery! 6 weeks!

    Hair loss

I'm pre-op, so I haven't experienced this from surgery yet, but in the past when I've experienced hair thinning, keeping my hair short has helped how I felt about how I looked immensely. Colouring my hair a darker shade (I'm normally dark blonde/mouse brown) made it look fuller as well. I'm actually planning on getting my hair cut soon as it's too long now for me (middle of my back), and I don't want to be having to care for long hair after surgery.

Day 3 - Learn something new: On today's schedule are a couple of events at my church... one new (a talk from our Bishop) and one old favourite (Lenten soup supper & prayer service). I'm interested to hear what the Bishop will have to say and hope that I will learn something new from him.
  24. Okay, so it's only day two of my 'hybrid' pre-op diet, and I'm already dealing with the unexpected. My diet is 3 glucerna shakes a day, one meal of no more than 500 calories, and up to 300 calories of fruit/veggie snacks per day. I'm doing this for the whole month of April, not sure what's in store for May yet. The things I didn't expect... peeing like mad and the gassiness (burping, farting, bloated feeling). I have always eaten a lot of veggies, so it's not the increase in fiber. So, I'm asking the dreaded question... Is this normal?

    Unexpected Side Effects

Frustr8, you make me chuckle with the way your brain works. I've lost 5 lb in two days so I'm on my way. I'm hoping that the bloated/gassy feelings will subside once my body adjusts to this new diet.
