Ok, liquid diet has been kicking my behind today. I confess to licking the spoon after dishing up mashed potatoes tonight for the rest of the fam. And I may or may not have inhaled a small crumble of meatloaf. *hangs head* Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

No vinyl or 8-track, although I remember them fondly. I still own one cassette, that has lived in my junk drawer for years and years, a friend's demo tape that I will never part with, even though I have no way to play it. And I still have a few cds... although more audiobooks than music CD. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

From a very young age (under 2yo I think) I have been very phobic about birds... anything with feathers and anything that flies as I often say. They freak me out the way some folks are scared of spiders or heights. The good news is, I can handle all kinds of creepy critters, so long as they don't fly. Day 4 - have an early night Normally I'd giggle a bit at this, because a normal night means I'm in bed by 9:30. Any earlier and I'd be in the same bedtime range as my wee-lings (they do go to bed earlier than 9, but they rarely are asleep much before then). All that said, I probably could go to bed earlier tonight as my darling husband's snoring was particularly loud last night so I was up half the night. 1 of 3 walking workouts done, along with my push ups. I do wall push ups, and every day I've been inching my way down the wall to increase the angle and difficulty. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Which surgery did you have? At my clinic, sleeve patients have post-OP clear liquids for quite a while, whereas bypass patients start right on full liquids right after surgery. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Right? I've been waiting for so long for this and now it's getting super real. Pre-op diet phase 2 is working well. Down 5lb in 2 days. Cooking for my family is challenging but not as bad as I thought it would be. One big thing that's messing with my head is the fact that IT'S BEEN SNOWING ALL WEEK!! When I got my surgery date back in March, I had envisioned spring. Waking up to fresh snow every day is messing with my plan to be outside walking every day. The weather is supposed to get back to seasonal on Monday, but this is absurd even for Alberta. Anywho... May the 4th be with you all! Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I've been following the no drinking with meals rule for a few months now, as it came up in one of my classes with my dietitian. I've struggled to explain why this is important to my friends and family and this helps a lot. Thank you! Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Weighing in at the doctor's office

I do all the same things! Plus, at home I only weigh before my shower because wet hair weighs more. Lol Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Day 3 - watch a performance? Not really any opportunity for that today. But my husband and I have been rewatching GoT past seasons (yes we're watching the new season too), so I'm going to count that this evening. Other than that things have been a bit stressful... my trusty laptop gave up the ghost yesterday. We're still helpful that we'll be able to salvage my hard drive (all my writing, pictures, lesson plans for a class I lead at church), but I'm very bummed. I have limited back ups of stuff because I'm an idiot. And add to that, McD's messed up my once-a-week coffee (2 sugar rather than 2 splenda) and I drank it all before I noticed so now I'm feeling completely gross (blood sugars spiked). Other than a nice 3lb loss when I weighed this a.m., it's been a rough 24 hours. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Are you on any meds for diabetes or high blood pressure? Dosages might need to be adjusted. I'm on day 2 of the all liquid diet too, and am a bit loopy... felt like my blood sugars were low while I was grocery shopping (a new kind of torture). Checked my sugars when I got home, and they were actually high. Turns out that my once-a-week coffee from McDonald's had 2 sugar in it rather than 2 sweetener. [emoji35] Now I'm just praying it levels out soon because I feel like crap. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

I live in central Alberta. I've seen snow in every month except July (and I'm sure it snows in the mountains in July). Less than a week ago we were using the bbq and my wee-lings were wearing shorts and tshirts to school. Spring and fall are fickle... We don't plant our gardens until after the Victoria Day weekend. Exactly. We have to look for those non-scale victories when the stalls hit.
  16. Weekdays are easier for me at the moment as I'm a SAHM and getting through without family distractions is helpful. My cycles have been erratic for the last couple of years, due to perimenopause, but if things hold true to my luck and the pattern I've been on, surgery day will also be cycle day 1. Fun times! Eyes on the prize, as my grandfather would say! Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Considering Surgery

For me, it was anxiety about leaving my husband with two small kids if I were to have a heart attack. Rather dramatic, I know, but it was ultimately what pushed me over the edge to ask for the referral.
  18. Hi! I think we're surgery twins... May 16th! I started phase 2 of my liquid diet (5 meal replacement shakes, 200 cal specific veggies) today. For the first part of my liquid diet, I struggled a bit initially with cravings. The worst has been cooking for my family and not being able to join them. Now I've become pretty good at distracting myself. Any time I feel cravings or hunger that can't be fed at the moment, I do a mini workout. Some stretches, a few wall push ups, or some marching in place. It helps a bit. As to the vitamins, definitely check with your surgical team. I am to stop mine 3 days prior to surgery, and then all but one of my prescriptions the day before surgery. The nerves are real, but this is a good step. Good luck on your journey!

I'm not into camping... I'll go out to a campsite for the day to hang out with my family, but then I like to head home, sleep in my own bed, and have a nice hot shower to wash off the campfire smell :). As for bears, I hear ya... bears and mountain lions are always a possibility if we head an hour or two west. Although, my scariest camping experience was an 8yo, I was trapped in a campground outhouse by a flock of wild turkeys, with my little sister who was terrified of the outhouse. Very traumatic 🤣

I'm not an outdoorsy type of person, but I do love being with my extended family around a firepit, telling silly stories and laughing until my cheeks hurt. Hopefully the weather will smarten up because we have a big family event planned for the Mother's Day weekend (MIL's 80th bday).

Day 2 - Make some art. My creativity takes two directions... cooking for my family (thankfully the wee-lings are adventurous eaters) and writing. I'm planning on a bit of both today. Making a casserole for the freezer for post op and I'm going to do a little work on my romance novel that I've been plugging away at since last fall. 5 push ups and one (of three) walking workout done. The attached is the view out our bedroom window at 2am. I'm quite ready for this nonsense to stop.
  22. In my program, full liquids are things like cream soups, yoghurt (no chunks of fruit), refried beans, cream of wheat, unsweetened applesauce, etc. Hope that helps.

If you haven't already, I strongly recommend (along with pre-op pictures) taking your measurements before surgery. I started taking my measurements once a month in January, and as of today I'm down 17 inches overall. I can't wait to see what June 1st looks like!

It's a bit chilly outside today (spring cold snap complete with a blizzard a couple of days ago) but I'm going to drag myself out there anyway. As for the push ups, I hope wall push ups count, because that's all I can do right now. And nothing on the junk food list is on my pre-op diet, so they have been banished from my life.
