Hope I did the right thing?

So have you thought of getting a bypass? You could discuss this option with your doctor. I think you did the right thing. Research and ask questions before making permanent changes to your body!

    Tell Me Your Pre-op Timeline

Initial Surgeon consult...May 2017 Surgery Date... December 2017 Required: six months doctor supervised weight loss plan, EGD, psych evaluation. Dietitian evaluation and assessment was required along with a pre operative information session in a group setting with the surgeons bariatric coordinator. I had no history of heart issues or sleep apnea so did not require any cardiac tests.
  4. All I can say is this. In my experience, working in the hospital, undiagnosed type 2 diabetic patients are often diagnosed with high blood sugar (greater than 600 many times) or a high A1C. In most cases a type 2 diabetic with low blood sugar is hypoglycemic due to insulin or other medication. I was not diagnosing the OP. All I can say is that this is what I have experienced working as a registered nurse. I don’t see a lot of undiagnosed diabetic patients with low sugar it’s normally the opposite with the accompanying symptoms that prompts hospital visit. In MY experience.
  5. Yes. I have had three or four episodes of reactive hypoglycemia. I am NOT diabetic, never have been. My A1C has always been 5.2 or less. I have on hand at home my fairlife chocolate milk. It brings my sugar up quickly and is also high in protein. If you are prone to hypoglycemia you must prepare for it. Low blood sugar below 30 may result in becoming unconscious, it can result in seizures or death if no one finds you and you are alone. If you have warning symptoms...mine is a feeling of heat followed by horrible sweats...take some easy and Quick digesting sugar/glucose right away. You can manage this and stay within your diet goals! Best of luck!
  6. The original poster was commenting and asking for help regarding hypoglycemia that is not related to being diabetic.

    Your Teeth After Surgery

Sometimes the people that post with tooth issues are those that either have not taken calcium supplements or have not followed up with proper lab work or dental visits. Doing those three things can help avoid dental problems. Some people naturally have bad teeth genetics wise as well.

    I binged

Yup. I can eat more chips than protein. It’s easy to do. All of us will test the sleeve or pouch eventually. Can I eat this? Many times we find out it is still up to us and not the surgery to make the right food choices. Makes it tough! I try not to dwell on it if I have a bad eating moment. It doesn’t have to slide into a whole day, week, month of bad moments. Just get back on track and back to it.

    Jealousy?

In three years she will have gained all her weight back most likely. Let her eat her cake now and drink her wine. Those habits won’t get you very far long term. Do not be jealous. Under a year out most people can eat whatever and still lose weight. Follow your own diet and stick to the right program for long term success.
  10. It is reversible but usually only in extreme circumstances. It is unlikely they will consider a reversal at one month post op. Are you eating? Are you a woman still menstruating? Are you taking your vitamins? Are you getting your fluids in? It is common to feel tired for a time after surgery. It gets better. If you are frequently dumping what are you eating?
  11. KimTriesRNY

    What to do when dumping?

If you are getting late dumping...or reactive hypoglycemia, keep something quick on hand to raise your blood sugar. I keep fairlife chocolate milk in my fridge. It is higher in sugar and carbs but also has some protein in it. I drink it as soon as I start getting heavy sweats, which is my first sign of low blood sugar. Once I drink some I feel better in 15 minutes.

Fat shaming ?? Post op over 4 yrs

I do think about how WLS has changed my life for the better, so many things are easier now than a year ago I feel so grateful and blessed. The truth is out there for those that wish to find it. There are TV shows about weight loss surgery, you tube videos about it, books about it, countless Instagram posts about it. It is not my job to inform every obese person that they could lose weight, they are most likely aware of this. If someone I know asks me how I am losing weight, or inquires about my diet I do share with them. If a very obese person asked me, I would even share that I had surgery if I thought they were honestly interested. Most people want a quick and trite answer though. Eyes glaze over once you mention exercise and lowering carbs so it’s not a topic I discuss with people. Just as other people with unhealthy habits need to want to make changes: smokers, alcoholics, drug users, etc....people have to be ready to change. Making comments to strangers does not inspire change, likely just shame and embarrassment.
  13. Try some miralax to get things moving. You can mix a dose in liquid.

    THEDUTCH

The pre op diet is not easy for anyone. Do your best to stick to it in the limited time you have left. 18 pounds in five months is nothing to sneeze at. Losing weight and keeping it off is hard, and pre op is a stressful time. You can do it!
  16. Sounds like you’re on the right track! Good luck!

    Pre-op liquid diet during Thanksgiving

I was on liquids last year for thanksgiving. You will be fine. It is hard for everyone but the holidays are even more so. Stay strong, you can do it!

I feel like I blew it

I had some turkey, a bit of dressing, some green beans. Later I had a small piece of pie. What’s wrong with that? We are still human, meant to enjoy gatherings and special occasions with our family and friends. Do not feel guilty, get back on the regular program tomorrow. I don’t feel like enjoying a holiday meal is screwing up, I think it’s normal.

6 days post op . I need help!

Awwwww. Don’t be scared! It gets better, we promise! Yes, it hurts in the beginning. Yes, many of us were piles of crying, blubbering fools the first few weeks...myself included. You will get better, your emotions will level off. As others said, do your best to stay hydrated, walk as much as you can, and rest when you need to! Hugs 🤗

    3months post op

I’ve never had any issues eating after my surgery. I count myself lucky actually. I have good restriction with no nausea, vomiting, etc.

    Best Tools

Digital food scale is the only thing I use for tools. I also use MFP. I have a slow cooker but I’m buying an Instant Pot on Black Friday for myself!

my 3 months post op Progress

Wow! That’s a lot of change for only three months! Keep up the great work. 🙌

    Carbs

My surgeon said less than 100 grams daily, but that less than 50 grams was best if I was able to cut them that far. I average between 30 - 65 or so. Less than 100 is very doable with no bread, pasta, rice, candy, etc. 😂

    Surgery in 2 weeks...

It’s not a food funeral. Last thanksgiving I was on my liquid diet preparing for my surgery. This thanksgiving, I will be about two weeks away from one year post op. You will eat turkey again. You will eat small amounts of other favorites like mashed potatoes or stuffing. You may even have a bit of pie for dessert. The idea that it will be the “last” time you eat something, well that’s false. It may be the last time you are physically able to eat a pound of food, but that’s a different story. Enjoy your Thanksgiving but I guarantee next year you won’t believe your eyes! 😉
