Sample Menu from dietitian for Week Five 1141 Calories, 103g Protein
KimTriesRNY replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a hard time with getting my drinks in and I know it’s going to get worse when I go back to work. I used to drink over 80 oz a day now I struggle to get 32 oz. Any technique or tip you can share? -
Sample Menu from dietitian for Week Five 1141 Calories, 103g Protein
KimTriesRNY replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’d like to get to a goal of 1200 calories as well for a long term sustainable daily goal. I’m hovering at about 600 a day and low energy. I’d love to eat more to have the energy to do more. -
Puree stage question
KimTriesRNY replied to Real California April's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I don’t advise going against your particular surgeon or dietitians recommendation, and I think that’s pretty risky to encourage others to do the same. Your surgeon has set forth a plan for your healing organs for a reason. I used my nutri ninja to purée chicken salad, pinto beans with taco seasoning, puréed cauliflower, etc. Just because you are on purée does not mean you cannot have real food. There are some great recipes out there worth trying that don’t involve going against doctors orders. Just my two cents. -
7 days post op and i am kicked while down
KimTriesRNY replied to tinamichele's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m one month out. It does indeed get better. Focus more on staying hydrated for now, then start working the protein in. You will slowly be able to increase what you drink each day and as your food options increase your goals become easier to reach. Hang in there! -

I get to eat salad next week and I cannot wait. My mouth is watering thinking about it! -
Things have a way of catching up to you. Sure, you’ve gotten away with it so far but this sounds like a recipe for a WLS fail to me.

Chest pains and burping after eating
KimTriesRNY replied to Paityn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m four weeks post op bypass. I get this feeling of sharp pain in my chest if I eat too big of a bite, eat too fast, or do not chew enough. That is your pouch telling you to slow down. It happens especially if I take it too quick with a bit of a denser protein, and my progression of diet is pretty slow compared to some I have seen. I would definitely back it down or try softer proteins. Be aware of the size of the bites. I have to be so careful of how fast I eat, that’s always been a huge problem for me. I’m forcing myself to put my utensil down and chew chew chew. -
Am I eating too much for 10 days post-op?
KimTriesRNY replied to wesja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’re fine. I was the same way only I was on liquids until week 3 post op. Once I was moved to more regular food I can’t eat a lot. I can eat about 2-3oz of fish. A bite of veggies with it. That’s it. -
Follow the diet progression. At the purée stage there is nothing crunchy you can eat. Are you doing something that normally you would pair with eating such a snack such as watching tv or talking on the phone? If so, stop. Get up. Do something else. Do some dishes. Sit at the table and peruse some recipes for things you can have. I made a pinto bean purée that was pretty tasty at that phase. One can pinto beans half cup low fat cheese taco seasoning to taste a tablespoon or two of chicken stock purée until smooth.

Help. In Pain.

Glad you are feeling better! -
I bought regular adult liquid Tylenol over the counter. You may also find some chewable gas x tablets helpful as well.

Help. In Pain.
KimTriesRNY replied to Deleted Account's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm. I’m not allowed beef until four months post op and my surgery was 12/2. Anyways I started soft food this week. I noticed if I eat a bit too fast, or do not chew chew chew, I get a sharp pain behind my sternum. I don’t know if this is what you are experiencing or not but be mindful of the size of your bites, how fast you are eating, and make sure everything is chewed thouroughly. I likely would not try beef for awhile either. My biggest problem is slowing down. I have always been a fast eater. -
Agree. I am almost one month post op bypass. I did not have a lot of gas pain as I was walking a lot in the hospital and as soon as I came home. I did have an incision that was more painful than the others. It was a burning and stinging pain. If you nose around it seems most of us have one incision that hurt the worst. I was moving slow for a bit. The hospital gave me a reacher thing so I didn’t have to bend over to pick up stuff and I even had a device to help me put my socks on. Everyone is different but she will get better!

Opinions on sleeve vs. bypass?
KimTriesRNY replied to jayleensmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Don’t take what I said out of context. My point was that choosing a bypass because you think you will have dumping is a mistake. Not everyone will have dumping syndrome according to my surgeon, and this was discussed in our preoperative class. Yes, I have had a bypass but I do not know if I would have dumping as I have followed my surgeons diet plan. -
Opinions on sleeve vs. bypass?
KimTriesRNY replied to jayleensmama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think with any weight loss surgery, if you decide after that you are going to eat chips, cookies, and pastries, you will gain. I have a bypass but if I chose to eat only milkshakes, would this mean I would lose weight? You must be willing to stick to the post op diet or you will regain some, or worst case scenario all, of the weight that was lost. Both the sleeve and bypass have vitamins requirements for life. Both the sleeve and bypass have dietary restrictions for life. If you aren’t ready to make that commitment, you aren’t ready for this surgery in my opinion. That being said with your past history and lower BMI a sleeve would certainly work for weight loss in your situation if you did not want the bypass. Keep in mind there is no guarantee if you have a bypass you will get dumping syndrome if that’s what you mean by “suffer the consequences if I don’t stick to it”, and dumping can also be something that lessens or disappears as a bypass matures so don’t choose a bypass based on that. I hope you do some reading, researching, and thinking to come to a decision that is right for you. -
Only down 22lbs since surgery. Help!
KimTriesRNY replied to newsleevedme79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Worry more about the bad habits and breaking those. The I only lost X amount of pounds in X amount of weeks is pointless. You cannot out exercise a terrible diet. Eat right and according to plan and you will lose weight. It’s just normally not as fast as we want to. -

What initially held you back (other than insurance/cost)
KimTriesRNY replied to KarenLR75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hmmmm. I originally mentioned WLS to my last PCP and he was against it. He really felt I could lose weight and that I was never meant to be a normal BMI. Over the next years I continued to lose and regain the same 30 pounds over and over. This year I ended up in a new job, with different insurance and had to switch to a new PCP. I mentioned surgery to him and he was on board immediately. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and I need this tool. Nothing else has worked and I honestly feel this is my last chance. -
Intense burning pain, black mucus, and spitting A LOT!
KimTriesRNY replied to Alicia Duncan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 20 days post op and on purée. You may have overdone it with the chicken. I have been making my own puréed food with my nutri ninja. Not sure what your diet progression is but I have another few days before I can eat moistened shredded chicken and I’ll be hesitant to try it. Even my purée chicken salad is very filling and I cannot eat much if it. Hope you feel better soon. -
I’m post op day 20. I take Centrum chewable multivitamin. I was advised also not to take gummy vitamins. I was also advised not to take Flintstone chewable as they are not adult vitamins. I ordered some celebrate vitamins on here but have not received them yet.

You don’t mention how far out post op you are. Have you tried something for heartburn to see if that helps? -

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
KimTriesRNY replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think some people that are not used to cooking may also have a bit of a hard time as far as preparing their food post op and that’s where some of the questions come from. For instance a “soft” diet has a technical definition of which most people are unaware. The same as “creamed” soup does not mean only cream of chicken, etc but it the method of preparing the soup.... Many people became obese due to an over abundance of highly processed and fast food items in their diets. Cooking real food can be a whole new confusing experience for some.
