    EDG Experience

I was completely out. Had no issues. I went to breakfast after with my sister.

    And so it begins ....

You can do it. That’s better than clear liquids for a week. After five or six days it’s actually easier. The first few are the roughest to get through. Stay strong!

    No poop

It was not something I would want to drink on an everyday basis for sure.

    No poop

Ugh I went about ten days after surgery. I got so desperate I drank mineral oil. Lots of people swear by miralax which can be mixed in with your clear liquids.

Anyone in the 9-12 week range?

My bypass was 12/2/2017. I’m eating anywhere between 700-850 a day in calories. My highest was 950 on a day I worked but I’m ok with that as my job has me on my feet walking. My surgeon wants me under 100grams of carbs daily but said 50 is best, and I’ve not really had an issue sticking with that. The only times I’ve had problems eating reasonable calories is if I eat something that doesn’t sit well, and I don’t know it’s going to happen until it happens. Im trying to get to 1000 calories intake of healthy lean proteins, veggies, dairy and such. It is a bit difficult as I just cannot eat a lot and sometimes don’t have much appetite.

    Resleeved vs rny conversion???

Why are you hesitant to get the bypass if this is a revision? If the surgeon recommends bypass and your insurance approves it that’s what I would get.

Can I still lose this weight? How long approx?

I can empathize with you. It’s tough when you have lost so much weight but are still so far from your goal. You are doing so well, try to focus on everything you have accomplished and how far you have come already! Even if you lost half of what you want by June that’s a pretty large loss in that time frame. If you keep doing what you are doing you will reach your goal in your own time.

    Bit worried

None of us lose weight as quickly as we want to, by none I mean 99/100 of us wish it would be faster.
  10. I live alone and I was fine. I had my family coming over to do chores like my garbage and reaching into my washer. My sister visited everyday to do my cat box and vacuumed for me, ran me to the store and stuff. I was not able to lift more than five pounds and I did follow that. If you have a few people that can swing by and help out and take you to the store if needed and of course to take you home from the hospital you’ll be fine I’m sure.
  11. I took omeprazole capsules. I opened them and poured the insides in my mouth then swallowed with water or sauce. I had no problem with taking them this way . My prescription is for one year so I think it will vary greatly by surgeon. I’ve never had GERD and was surprised I had to take them for so long.

    Questions About Catheter

At our hospital only bypass patients had to have a catheter. Maybe you’ll luck out and not need it. I think the shorter operation time was a factor.

    Dumping syndrome

Hmmmm I have not had dumping syndrome yet. I am not three months out yet though and have stayed far away from sugary sweets and high fat foods. I’m scared still I guess to try something that may cause it, or that may reinforce my past bad eating habits.

    How long till incisions fade?

I’m not sure either. I bought some mederma to start putting on mine to see if it helps. I have heard it can take a year or so to see the actual end color of a scar. Curious if anyone else has used this stuff on their little incisions.

    Cereal with Milk

Once in a while I will have a measured portion of shredded mini wheats. I put only half a cup of milk on them. I let the milk soak all the way into them and eat them. There is no milk in the bowl when I do this, it is all soaked into the little cereal biscuits. I enjoy this is a change from eggs and such but only about twice a week as it is so much higher in carbs. Its not so damaging when you can only eat one serving of cereal and cereal has lots of vitamins and fiber if you choose wisely. It’s on my list of foods that are ok to eat.

    Pain while eating

Make sure your bite size is small and you are eating slowly. I get pain if I eat too quickly, I’ve been a fast eater my whole life and that’s been the most difficult thing to change for me. I have to constantly remind myself to slow down and take those small bites.

    I'm torn. Gastric or Sleeve?

I was responding to the original poster of the thread in my response, not you.

    Eating too much

It depends what I eat for sure. I can definitely eat more soup or even salad than say chicken or fish. On the whole though, I am never hungry thirty minutes after eating any meal. Are you eating nutritious protein first followed by some vegetables or what is your diet consisting of? ”Feeling empty” sounds emotional vs physical to me though. Biddy is right it’s hard to give useful advice with such little information.

    Stress eating

I have noticed this is a tough thing to deal with. Honestly, now that I cannot comfort myself with food sometimes I am forced to deal with the stress by crying. My job is super stressful and now instead of coming home and eating empty carbs I might have a little sniffle. At first I wondered what the hell was the matter with me but then I realized what was going on. I’m not really craving the food that used to comfort me, so these emotions are coming out in other ways. Not sure if it’s normal but there it is.

    I'm torn. Gastric or Sleeve?

I think with a BMI above 50 bypass is at least to be considered if you are not in an area where you are close to a surgeon that performs the DS. Many people are not comfortable with the more complicated procedures of bypass or DS but you can research if the surgeon has lots of experience doing either procedure.

    Still the same

It’s not even been three weeks! Give your body the time it needs to heal and follow your program and the changes will come for sure! Hope you have a good follow up and feel more optimistic after.

    Issues with cold liquids?

Have not. My Yeti goes with me everywhere with my ice water inside. Shopping, work, out running errands. I’ve never had an issue.

    Do you chew and spit?

https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/blog/5-things-you-didn’t-know-about-chewing-and-spitting-disorder It is a disorder. It’s not normal behavior for people that have or have not had weight loss surgery. People that do this may need help to stop. Knowing a few people that do this behavior does not make it normal or healthy. I hope you read about it and encourage them to get the help they need.
  24. KimTriesRNY

    Do you chew and spit?

No this doesn’t seem normal to me at all. Definitely would be a behavioral issue to get in check as it seems it could lead to issues down the road.
