    These stalls are no joke!

Five days is technically not a stall. Im on a three week stall so far and I must say, it has been completely demoralizing. I really feel for the people that have this go on for months. There is more to it than eat less than x amount of calories and exercise for sure. It is so easy to encourage others to stay positive during a stall but when it’s happening to your own self....not so much. I’m tempted to just not weigh myself for a few weeks because when I see the same weight or worse, it’s up a pound, I want to cry. Sigh.

How often have you gotten sick?

I have never thrown up. I have eaten too quickly a few times and gotten some bad chest pressure from that but as others said you learn your limits. Some people do seem more prone to nausea and vomiting than others.

    6 days Post-Op Gastric Bypass

You should keep in mind deficiencies from patches can take years to show up. There are reasons most bariatric programs do not support the use of them. In the meantime, can you try something like centrum adult chewables? Even flintstones chewables would be preferable over nothing. You may find as your bypass matures a bit you will become more tolerant to these items. In the interim you could use a chewable you tolerate. Prenatal, swallowable vitamins are not recommended post bypass. The item should be liquid or chewable, and capsule form when your program allows in most circumstances.

    Ripping Pain

I had this. My research revealed it can also be nerves healing. My pain was gone from my surgery then I got this burning tearing pain around week 2.5-3. It lasted 10 or so days.

    No limit on food amount?

When I am full I get one big hiccup. I actually try to stop before that happens.
  9. I know it’s duscouraging. I’ve been stalled the whole month of July and it’s so frustrating to see the weight stay the same or go up a few pounds. All we can do is trust in the process and follow our program. It’s easier said than done when you are faced with weeks of diligent work and no progress but stalls and different rates of loss are a fact of the weight loss process. I do try to only compare my current progress to my past attempts as others have suggested. Comparing your rate of loss to someone else is counterproductive. Best of luck and keep on chugging away. I’m doing the same.

    Giving up protein shakes

By ten weeks out. I get 70-90 grams daily with zero shakes. I may have one for a snack if I want one, but normally I would rather have food.

    Snarky comments

Unfortunately even most nurses seem against bariatric surgery. There is such a huge prejudice against this still in the world. So sorry you told your coworkers. I agree with Bryn. Just remind them it’s none of their business how much time you’ll get off of work. That’s between Human Resources and yourself. Hopefully they will find something else to gossip about in the meantime. Working in a mostly female environment can be so brutal. Full of catty and judgemental women, ugh. Just focus on you and taking care of your health. Best of luck.

When can I try some skinless meat?

You have a list of approved foods from your surgeon or nutritionist I’m sure. Seven days out seems mighty early for meat but everyone is going to do what they want to do bottom line. You don’t need to seek validation or approval from others to eat unapproved foods post op. Just as long as you are aware of the risks and accept them. We are all adults here.
  13. I had a full six weeks. I work over 12 hours, much of that is on my feet. I have to be able to assist and transfer patients and such. The time off you need is highly dependent on the nature of your work. I would always err on the side of caution and take a higher amount of time off if you have it and are financially able.
  14. Yes. As a Registered Nurse I am aware of this. I thought there was some chemical reason for it you were referring to. Not something regarding medication names. I mistook what you were referring to when you said your daughter was a pharmD and thought you had some information that was more lucrative and not readily available. My bad.

    Post Op Insomnia

Me. I had this. I don’t know why. I still have trouble sleeping when I need to sleep, and then I get sleepy when I need to be awake. I attributed it to my night shift work but it seemed to be more. Have you tried Melatonin? Some people find that effective if you do not like prescription sleeping pills.
  16. Curious. Go on and bore us lol. I was told by my doctor this depends on the medication. The active ingredient in both generic and name brand medications is supposed to be the same but many times it is the inactive ingredients that are different. Other than cost difference why prefer a generic?

    8 months post op

    Beautiful!
  19. I believe we have had people on here that have needed more than one dilation. It’s doubtful it’s just in your head.

    It gets better

Indeed. It does get better. Hopefully anyone struggling will see this. Many times people only post if something negative is happening. But so many positive things are going to happen you won’t believe the changes in your life. In three months, six months.... it’s incredible. Just power through the rough patches!

    Salad

I was cleared at six weeks as well. I don’t eat as much of the greens as before but I enjoy salads still. I am a RNY patient though, so not sure if that makes a difference. I love eating the salads at Panera if I’m out and about!
