    How much weight

Just over eight months out. I’ve lost 132 pounds. 117 since surgery, 15 on liquid diet pre op. I lost nothing during July, having a three week stall.

Pork loin made in the crock pot or oven

I make it in my crock pot all the time. I make lots of chicken and pork dishes that way. I tolerate meat as long as it is moist and I can chew it well without it being too dry.
  3. Wow! Amazing change! Look at that smile!

    7 wks post

Most people are disappointed at their rate of weight loss and wish they could lose weight faster. Some of us have unrealistic expectations of how quickly we will lose weight postop. Many of us compare ourselves to others, but we may not know how much the other person weighed, what other conditions they had, what medications they were taking, etc. It is difficult but try to compare your progress to your past progress attempts at weight loss. For example, I am eight months out from surgery and when is the last time I have lost over 130 pounds in that time? Never. If we keep working the program we were given the process will work, it just may not be as quickly as we think it should be.

Getting in over 60 grams of protein

Cottage cheese packs a protein punch if you are having issues with denser protein such as lean meat, or are not far enough out from surgery to eat meat. Buy full fat versions if your calories are that low.

    Seafood

If you are seeking validation to eat items that are not recommended on your diet plan or stage you might not receive that advice here. We are all adults here and diets are advanced after surgery to allow proper healing of the staple line so eating unapproved foods is at your own risk. Either ask for permission to advance your diet from your bariatric team or nutritionist. I wouldn’t seek validation to eat off plan from strangers on the internet. Good Luck.
  11. Many times people notice but say nothing. Bless these people. Once the comments start, they don’t stop. People constantly pressure me for precise amounts of pounds I have lost. It’s none of their business. Not trying to be rude but your average person can’t really fathom what you weighed or how many pounds you lost. For example a coworker said to me....wow you must have lost like 30 pounds....

    Post op appointments

Thank you Frust8. It has been pretty good. My first three month appointment I think my surgeon was not impressed but at my six month appointment he was pretty wowed. He was even asking to see a before picture! The difference in my life already is hard to quantify compared to where I was eight months ago. I have lost 137 pounds from my high weight last year and have 53 pounds left to go to hit my first real goal. It’s a staggering amount. This surgery saved my life and I’m thankful everyday for the chance I was given and hope everyone is given the same chance that is battling obesity. Some of us have different opinions on here but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like reading other peoples thoughts and ideas even if they aren’t the same and I enjoy the support I get here.

    Post op appointments

After the first few follow ups that were after surgery, I think one was two weeks, then one month, mine are every three months for the first year so far. I have had a three month follow up, six month follow up, and my nine month follow up is in September.

    Starting to Freak Out (Hair)

Chances are you will lose some hair. How noticeable it will be depends on how thick your hair is now and where your hair decides to thin out at. I have very thick hair. I have lost quite a bit from my temples and the front but it’s not enough for anyone else to notice. The thinning is starting to calm down now and regrowth should start. I would not change my decision either way. I’m already so much healthier. If I had to cut my hair short or wear a headband for a few months to hide it, that would still be worth it.

    Wow! That’s fantastic! I don’t think I was born a size 2! Congrats!

    I know everyone has them

Stalls definitely happen and it is defeating and depressing when they happen to you! I was stalled for over three weeks and it finally broke. Keep doing the right things and you will push through it. Above poster may be correct if you are exercising heavily you may need more calories but it can be tough to get them in. I eat mostly full fat dairy and such now to increase calories as portion sizes are so small. You may find some ways like that to add 100-200 calories in a day. It is hard to stay positive through it, but it will pass.

Any links from any source that has used these greater than five years?
  19. So what are you going to be drinking during the purée stage? I certainly would restrict intake of sugar but to each their own. Good luck.
  20. I had all I could do to just shower, get dressed, and go for my daily walks. I remember my mom came and took me out for the first time post op and I lasted all of 45 minutes in the bookstore and I was ready to go home. I think it’s normal. Do your walking. If your body needs to rest though....let it rest a bit.

Losing weight but not seeing it

If you have any before face shots try comparing them. It’s amazing the changes you will see in your own face with even a small loss, let alone 30 pounds. We are our own worst critics and lots of us seem to have this issue on and off.

    Time to stop losing weight!

Congrats! Sounds like a great “problem” to have!

How are you getting 40 grams of carbs?

Some days I don’t get 40 carbs. I don’t stress about it. Some days I’m a bit over, usually if I have oatmeal for breakfast which is about once a week. Most of my carbs seem to come from my yogurt and things like beans that may be in soups I make.
