    When was your first plateau?

I didn’t really hit a long stall until July. That stall lasted over three weeks. I do have a week or so here or there where I stay the same or don’t lose anything but I don’t count it as a stall unless I don’t see a loss for over a solid two weeks. They are discouraging but a normal part of the process. I am always tempted to stray during a long stall but I have learned if I just stick with it the loss will start up again and patience is rewarded.

    5-weeks post-op H20 still hurts

I never had trouble with water after maybe post op day 2. Is this just water you are having issues with? Are you able to drink say warm tea or broth? What about a popsicle or protein shake? What about flavored water? Some people do seem to have issues with plain, unflavored water after surgery but if it is all fluids causing an issue that may be a larger problem.

    My first Surgiversary!

You look beautiful! I love the black dress! Thank you for sharing today. I have a pile of stuff I need to take to goodwill but there’s that voice in my head that says “maybe you should keep a few things, just in case”. I guess maybe that’s normal? Anyway, congratulations on all you have accomplished.

    really not losing weight rapidly

This will not be popular but I would put the wine away. At only three weeks post op you are not able to eat enough to meet your nutritional needs. Alcohol has zero nutritional value whatsoever. I am eight months post op and eat between 800-900 calories a day. I cannot imagine 30 percent if my intake coming from alcohol. It isn’t all about calories, it is about what you feed your body too. Good luck on your journey!
  5. Hey, that’s great progress!

How many days after surgery did you have your first poo?

9 days. Don’t wait to start preparing or you’ll be miserable.

    Yay! Salad finally staying down

Yay! I like a yummy salad every now and then! Congrats!

Anyone else eat and drink at the same time?

I do not but I am only 8.5 months post op. I do not drink alcohol and have not for years so that’s not an issue for me. If I eat out I order an ice water, sip it a bit before my meal comes, then I leave it there when my meal arrives. If anyone has noticed they haven’t said anything. I am sure plenty of people enjoy a glass of wine with their meal now and again.
  9. @virginiaRN I just wanted to say that I really admire how you handled everything with such poise, dignity, and grace. If everyone was this way the world would be a much improved place. May you enjoy good health!

    Average Length of Pre-Op Diet?

I was on one week of full liquids, one week of clear liquids. Every surgeon has their own preference.

    Is this normal

The heavier you are normally the faster you will lose weight, even more so being male. It is not unusual to have a low calorie intake right now, after all you are three months out so you should have some pretty tight restriction. Most surgeons do not take the gallbladder out at the same time...at least where I live in America. Kidney stones can be common after surgery due to decreased fluid intake. Lack of hunger is experienced by some and is usually considered a benefit of WLS. Nausea appears to be experienced by everyone in an individual manner postoperatively. Some have none, others seem to struggle with it for some time.
  12. I did not. I am a floor nurse working 12 plus hours a night. It was challenging at times but I wasn’t laying about the house thinking about all the food I couldn’t eat either.

    Poop and age

I’m chronically constipated so can’t imagine this being an issue for me. Sounds like bunk to me.

    Mashed potatoes

I always have Greek yogurt on hand. I like Oikos triple zero the best. Yoplait just came out with a yogurt that is made using ultra filtered milk that has a similar nutritional profile that I like too. For meals I like a dense protein, Aidell makes a great chicken sausage. I eat lots of salmon and chicken dishes I make in my slow cooker.
  17. It seems early for that, but not beyond the realm of possibility. It seems to be in a good location to be hidden so that’s good!
  18. I’m not sure I have much to add but I read your whole post and I felt so awful...like it was me they were talking about. This is one of the most unprofessional things I have heard of happening and everyone involved should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. The office I go to has a practice manager. This manager is not a medical professional, but a business professional. If there is a person like this involved there that is whom I would address my concerns to. Patients nowadays have many options for care, and losing business isn’t good for any medical practice. If these people did this to you, it could happen to anyone. Again, I am terribly sorry that you had to experience this. I think we all have been hurt by strangers comments, but would not expect such behavior from medical providers. Hugs.

Should I cut my hair? (Hair Loss)

I have very thick long hair too. I noticed huge amounts of loss around 4-7 months out after surgery. It is not noticeable to other people thank heavens. I am getting my haircut tomorrow as I have noticed the loss is normalizing and I’m expecting it will start regrowing soon. @AstroCat I love the short hair on you too! Really brings out your eyes!

    OK, what have you lost?

A two month old horse plus a mid size microwave.

    Weight Plateau

I did hit a 3 week stall after losing 130 some pounds but two months seems like a long time. Do you track your intake? Exercise? It is hard to “advise” you when we don’t know what your current program is.

    Work

This is highly variable depending on what type of job you do. Do you work from home? Are you an office worker? Are you required to walk or stand for long periods of time? Do you need to lift more than ten pounds at your job? Do you manage others or work in a high stress environment? All of these can impact how much time you may need. The best advice I can think of is to take as much time off as you can financially afford, within the guidelines your surgeon gives you.

Has anyone tried any types of bread??

I have not tried regular bread. I have eaten small amounts of crackers and flatbread or wraps. Honestly when you can’t eat a lot there are more nutrient dense foods for the calories you can be eating.
