Have you had the Shingles Rash?
KimTriesRNY replied to dathvick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The bad news is you have shingles. The good news is it’s on your chest and not your face! Hope you feel better soon. -
I wasn't nervous about my surgery until I found this site
KimTriesRNY replied to MikeIL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every person is different and everybody will have a different experience. I have never once vomited postoperatively, but I was never a person that was prone to having stomach issues pre op either. The only time I have experienced chest pain was after eating too quickly and you learn fast to slow down. Certain foods may cause discomfort at first...but you can try them again later if this is the case. As far as dumping goes, I mainly do not dump and can tolerate small amounts of ANY food so far. I have had several episodes of what I think may be reactive hypoglycemia but that’s another story. There are those of us out here that have had zero issues like myself. If you are close to surgery, avoid negative posts that discuss complications. Remember that people are more likely to complain about something than praise something. Go cruise Instagram for inspiration of those that have lost weight and share stories on there. Remain positive and remember that this procedure is a safe procedure with an overall low risk of complications. -
I went nine days post op with nothing moving and it was a mistake. I would start Miralax daily now until you start going daily to every other day if your surgeon approves. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I’m a month out from a year since my surgery date of 12/02/17. Several times over the last few weeks people I know have walked past me and not even recognized me. Tonight at work I got my first comment of “oh you look good now, you should not lose anymore weight.” I feel so much different than I did almost a year ago. Sometimes I don’t even recognize myself. I would say it took a good three or four months. Once I was able to really start moving easier, and noticing the changes...even small changes like being able to bend over and tie my shoes...momentum takes over. Now I am to the point where the diet is pretty well second nature. I joined a gym and consciously try to exercise. Comments about my weight or how I look while well meaning are becoming annoying. Do I feel like my old self? I don’t think so. I was very depressed and to the point I did not enjoy doing a lot of things and some things were hard to do physically at my weight. I feel like a better version of me and I hope it continues. Best of luck!

I work nights, 13 hour shifts just about. I eat my dinner around five pm. I eat a light snack around 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm. I take my meal break if I’m lucky around 3 am and eat left overs of what I have made earlier in the week....chili, soup, chicken items, etc. I try not to eat when I get home, but if I am hungry I will eat a little snack then too. My snacks are usually 130-150 calories and my meals are between 250-300 or so. It can be hard on nights because you are already fighting your body’s natural rhythm. Stay away from high carb senseless items like cereals and chips and such. I see ppl eating this stuff all night long but they can’t figure out why they gain weight. One lady eats almost a whole box of cereal every shift plus her meal....

Question about first week post Surgery
KimTriesRNY replied to Lord Nikon's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
You may have to ask the surgeon why his requirements are different. We are not surgeons and cannot answer the “why” of the differences in bariatric programs/preferences. We can only speak of our own experience, similar to your friends that were able to drink regular protein shakes. -
I seem to have this sometimes. Don’t know why or if I just didn’t notice it before. It doesn’t happen when I’m hungry necessarily though.
-
I take Miralax every other day. If I find myself becoming backed up still I start taking it every day until improvement is noticed. I had problems before and it’s just worse now. Try a few things and you will find what works best for you.

I don’t really have any tips but just wanted to say congratulations. I love my pets and find them to be a joy. Nothing is as comforting as hugging my fluffy friends! Good luck with Bella!

I’ve bought lots of clothing. Several expensive handbags. One expensive watch, but my watch I want for goal weight I am waiting to get. Last week I got my hair colored and cut. I bought a few new jackets and coats, some new cute leather booties too. The clothing is necessary. Ive tried goodwill but ours is 5-8 bucks a piece and I’m not paying that for used clothing from wal mart and old navy when I can get new stuff from there cheaper. I’d rather pay 12 bucks for something new but that’s me. I am planning a vacation in March, and I should be at my first major goal by then.

Amazing progress! Good work! You’ve really lost a lot around your waist!

There are indeed tons of posts on this site about this very question if you search. There is no “better”, there is only what will be best for you. That being said, since you have shared no stats....if you have been obese since childhood, have a BMI approaching 50 or above, or already have diabetes or high blood pressure or other medical conditions due to being obese do not rule out gastric bypass as an option. Do your own research about what the surgeries entail, and discuss with your surgeon which may be the best option for your own long term health goals.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
KimTriesRNY replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
It is daunting. But just think where you will be almost a year from now. My high weight was 389. My surgery weight was 369 on 12/2/2017. Im about six weeks shy of my one year anniversary and I weigh 223. Follow your program and your life will be so different in a year you will not believe it! We May have farther to go but we can still get there, believe it! -

Make DS public or not?
KimTriesRNY replied to joycie4smiles's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I’m a bypass patient but my two cents is keep it to yourself. Tell only those that may need to know...spouse, etc. Once you disclose the information you cannot untell people. Lots of judgement still surrounds weight loss surgery. There are plenty of people to follow on YouTube, instagram, etc. already. Think long and hard. You may regret telling people, but rarely will you hear someone say they regretted keeping it to themselves. -
Is losing 50% of excess weight the standard?
KimTriesRNY replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You should expect to lose 70 percent of EBW on average with gastric bypass. If you are highly motivated and stick to your plan you very well could make goal. I have lost about 75 percent of my excess body weight but have about 30 pounds left I would like to lose to make to my goal weight. Am I much healthier and happier here? Would my doctor be happy if I was here instead of 150 some pounds heavier? I’m sure. I would love to make my goal though and will keep pushing forward. -
Hope your surgery was a success! 🤗

When I went for my surgery, I wish I brought/had......?
KimTriesRNY replied to DadtoSuperG's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with Matt, most people bring too much, I did. Lots of great posts on here about this topic. I was glad I brought my own pillow. As for bringing any of your own small appliances with extension cords, I advise against this. This is not allowed in the hospital I work at and may be a hassle for you if you try to bring something. -
I had never heard of it until I joined this site shortly before my surgery. I have seen several overweight people at work drinking them as snacks that have not had surgery, I think they are popular due to the low cost and low calorie for high protein payoff. I use them in my daily one cup of cold brew coffee as a creamer as well, and probably will as long as they make them. It’s a great way to get a bit of extra protein in before breakfast for low calories. I very rarely drink them as a snack or meal anymore as I prefer to eat. 😋

Study 2108: What happens after bariatric surgery makes a big difference
KimTriesRNY replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just hope and pray if I start to regain I’m able to correct myself before I gain a large amount. I wonder how many of us fear regain. No matter what we think right after surgery it is easy to slip into bad habits and it can happen to anyone. -

Sleeve vs bypass

Bypass. You will need an alternate solution for NSAIDS. -
Great job! What a smile too!

You should try writing down all of the things that made you really miserable about being obese that made you seek out or need weight loss surgery. Maybe carry it around with you if you have to for a little while and read it when you need to...in the grocery store, at the restaurant...wherever your having the food issues. I did start out at a higher weight than a lot of people, my BMI was 55, so there were a lot of things, and I mean ordinary things, that had become uncomfortable for me to do in my day to day life. That’s not even counting the health issues that were heading my way. Some regain is inevitable it seems but if you see weight creeping on and you know it is from bad habits finding their way back in, you owe it to yourself to fix it before it becomes a major problem. If it means seeking therapy or doing things like I suggested above then do what it takes to get back on track pronto.
