Birth control pills post op
KimTriesRNY replied to maggie354's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to not take it for absorption reasons. There are other options you can explore...ring, shot, IUD, etc. -
Congrats on your surgery date. Welcome to the site and jump right in, no reason to be shy here!

What’s the skinny on “excessively malodorous flatulence”?
KimTriesRNY replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I do get some gas but I don’t think it’s worse than anyone else. I feel that since surgery the bowel movements have a bit of a stranger odor due to the re routing of the intestinal tract. Some of the bowel issues you may or may not face may be based on what you experience now. I’ve never farted and pooped myself but have read about it here a few times, but I tend to be more constipated. Everyone is different and it’s tough to predict what your outcome will be until after surgery. -
Postponing surgery
KimTriesRNY replied to zueschoco1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this is the reason why then you are not ready. It is hard to give you insight on what you are thinking because you didn’t really elaborate as to why you wanted to postpone the surgery. Being afraid of say the anesthesia or some pain after is normal pre surgery jitters. If there are other reasons like those mentioned above then reach out to your team. I agree with GreenTea, most of us would have done anything for the surgery. I was on a liquid diet for thanksgiving last year and had my surgery three weeks before Christmas. It’s a tough time. Good luck. -
Ugh I’m like Fluffy. I take more normal size bites but I do chew very well. I do find that my food is sometimes cold, but maybe it’s because I’m not eating big heaping bowls of hot pasta and such anymore...😂 I like soup, it stays warm. 😀

I think anyone that loses a large amount of weight, 100 pounds or more, is going to have some loose skin. If you have good genetics, and are younger and in the lower end of that spectrum you may get lucky and not have much. If you are a bit older, and have lost much more, you will likely see more skin. I started to see quite a difference once I was losing over 120 pounds. Now I’ve lost close to 170, my arms and tummy have some loose skin, so do my inner thighs. The problem is you cannot compare the difference in yourself with or without the collagen peptides. And you really cannot compare yourself to anyone else either when it comes to weight loss and excess skin. If it was me, I would save the money to put towards plastics. Unless you have lots of extra cash lying around, it could be a waste of money.

I wish I had taken a few before pictures as well. Even my surgeon wanted to see one at my last appointment.

Post surgery 4 months mini stalls
KimTriesRNY replied to Oceanlove's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would work on the no drinking after meals. Drinking with or after meals washes the food out of your pouch, and can make you hungry earlier. It defeats the purpose of the pouch. Let your pouch stay fuller longer by not drinking for 30-60 minutes after eating, whatever was suggested by your team. -
Wishing you a safe and smooth surgery and recovery! 🙌

It depends on your insurance company. Although some states now are mandated by law to cover weight loss surgery, Florida is not one of those states. If the company specifically states in their document of benefits that they exclude weight loss surgery, you cannot “get them to pay for it”. If you are not sure if the procedure is covered or not, call the number on the back of your card or read the statement of benefits.

Kettlebells and other ways to tone a bit
KimTriesRNY replied to johnsons13's topic in Fitness & Exercise
There’s nothing wrong with doing body weight exercises. Planks, push-ups, triceps dips, squats, lunges, etc. All of those are equipment free. -
The age old question...
KimTriesRNY replied to ZGal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is false information. If you are under the assumption that bypass surgery will “stop” you from eating “bad habit” foods, you are mistaken. This is is simply not the case for many of us. If you are referring to processed foods and foods high in sugars as “bad habit” foods it is absolutely possible to eat these foods after bypass surgery. There is no guarantee that you will get dumping after bypass surgery, and the amount of patients that do is only estimated at 30 percent or so, and this decreases with the length of time post surgery. This is why you see lots of posts about regain after ANY weight loss surgery type. No surgery will prevent you from eating what you want, the onus is on YOU to change your diet, not to try to rely on a potential undesirable consequence to change your behavior. -
Starving still... regret seriously increasing
KimTriesRNY replied to mousecat88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It does get better. Fluffy is right, focus on fluids before food. Many times when we feel hunger it is our body trying to get water by telling us to eat because we don’t drink enough. That being said, we are human, and I think it is normal after being on liquids for weeks and weeks to feel some hunger. Eventually you will progress to being able to eat denser meals though, and all this will be a bad memory. One day at a time. -
Regrets???

What are your reasons for wanting to change? Have you discussed this with your surgeon? -
How long did it take to hit your goal and when did your loss slow down?
KimTriesRNY replied to danieocean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ve lost over 160 pounds. My first main goal is to get under 200 pounds, and at a touch over 5 foot 10 I’m ok with that. My surgeon thinks I could reach 175 but who knows. If you start out a bit higher, it may take a bit longer to get there....but you are right. Once the main bulk comes off, it is exciting. I can shop in regular size clothes, walk without being exhausted, I’m not constantly anxious about having to go to social situations due to my weight. You don’t have to reach goal before you start seeing the benefits and it definitely helps to keep you motivated to keep working towards that final goal! -
No Pain Medications
KimTriesRNY replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think most people would not even ask what they would be receiving for pain post operatively. So maybe by the time they have the surgery it is too late, they are stuck with this surgeon. I do agree abuse potential is super high, I see it every day at work as a nurse. I think the immediate post op period is a time when stronger pain meds may be needed for some patients though, and this includes opioids. I would not go to a surgeon if this was their policy and I was aware ahead of time. -
Congrats on all you have accomplished! May your next year continue to be just as successful!

How long did it take to hit your goal and when did your loss slow down?
KimTriesRNY replied to danieocean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have yet to hit goal but my loss has slowed down tremendously. My body is very happy with these extra 25 pounds and it’s a fight to get each one off now. I would say my first 100 pounds came off very easily, and then the weight loss slowed to a normal rate. Naturally there will be a difference between someone that has 100 pounds to lose and 200 pounds to lose. I want to lose another 25 at least, but it could take six months or more. -
That has to be an awesome feeling. I can’t remember weighing one something. Great job.

4 days post op.. emotional wreck, help.
KimTriesRNY replied to mousecat88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Directly following surgery there are a lot of feelings and emotions effected by weight loss surgery, some of these are influenced by hormones stored in fat cells. If you were an emotional eater you may be feeling a lot of grief, frustration, and anger...even a sense of loss....a main coping mechanism has been taken away...and it can be jarring to the system. It gets better. I had a rough few weeks. If I felt like crying, I cried. It’s a strange few weeks. You will get through it. -
Help, I'm hungry AGAIN!
KimTriesRNY replied to bogglesauce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat more salad than other things, and I think that’s okay. Most of us did not become obese by eating salads. I would just be careful with the high calorie dressing. Hunger seems individual. I get hungry too. I myself do not drink a lot of protein shakes, I prefer to get my nutrients mostly from food. If protein shakes do not help you feel full it seems pointless to drink them in my opinion. You say you are indulging in “bad food”. If you are referring to slider type food, these foods will not help your hunger so stop eating them. They can easily contribute to weight gain post surgery. It sounds like you know what you need to do already. Drink more water, track intake, stick to a diet high in protein and vegetables....you can do it!
