December Surgery Dates
lizph replied to KimTriesRNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my liquid Thursday, I expect to be hungry for three or four days, thats how long it lasted when I was on protein drinks before. It seemed to get better after that. I don’t have to do clear liquids before surgery. That sounds terrible. Good luck. -
My surgery is the 14th also. I started Atkins on October 1st and have lost 29 pounds. I start my pre- op liquid on Wednesday. I’m a little worried about being super hungry, with no fat. Thanksgiving was rough, and the popcorn smell at the theater today about killed me. I think I might blow up if one more person asks why I need surgery if I can stick to my diet this long. Nobody who hasn’t lived it doesn’t understand how keeping it off is the impossible part. Good luck, your day is close. You will be so healthy and feel so good. It will be worth it.

I can't return the ones I bought, so hopefully I can tolerate the amount of Maltitol in them it is nasty.

I shopped yesterday for my supplements and just discovered the first ingredient in the calcium chews is Maltitol. This product has never agreed with me. Does anyone have any advice? I'm so upset, I shopped at the hospital pharmacy, thinking I was paying fir quality products.

I'll look into that.

Yesterday at my pre on class they recommend Costco pure Protein bars. I haven't tried them though. Atkins have too much sugar alcohol for me.

My date is 12/14 and after this I will have 20 incisions on my stomach. Lap band, gall bladder, hysterectomy and now bypass. I have found it's always a relief to get into the pre-op room. They are always so caring, and explain everything. I always feel like I'm going to be safe after talking to everyone and getting ready. Hope you experience this trust too. Hoping all goes well. Will be watching for your update after[emoji175]

I am 63 and having revision from lapband to bypass on 12/14. I wish your family would be more supportive. This surgery will change your life in such a positive way. So wish I could have had it younger. I'd go for it, so you can enjoy life with your kids. You will feel so much better.

I'm 63, and wishing I would have had bypass when I paid $17,000. Out of pocket for my lapband. Will be relieved when surgery is over. I just had a hysterectomy last year, so I'm hoping recovery is as easy as that was.

My edema was so bad the skin on my shins is damaged. My Dr. said it's like scar tissue and probably permanent. Oh well, I can live with that and saggy skin, I just want to feel more comfortable and have more energy. I do water aerobics now that I'm retired, and have stuck to the low carb since October 1st. Since revision from lap band is more complicated than just bypass, my surgeon wants me to get rid of as much belly fat as possible. It's a daily fight for sure, because I'm such a sugar addict. I could live on sweets[emoji22]

Just wondering if you eat grains? I'm pre surgery, but when I cut out grains and sugar my edema went away. I fell iff the wagon and my edema came back. Now I'm back on the low carb track with no grains or sugar and my edema has cleared up again.

Starting Journey for conversion from Band to Bypass
lizph replied to Amyj72's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am on the same journey. I lost 56 pounds with my lap band but gained it back, plus more. I now have Barrett's Esophagus from gerd and a hiatal hernia, probably from getting food stuck and throwing up daily. My revision to bypass is scheduled for 12/14/17. I hope you don't have to wait too long. Good luck[emoji255] -
Binge eating treatment b4 RNYGB
lizph replied to Aries331's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I agree it's a really important part of the journey. I have a lap band and was very unsuccessful. I'm now scheduled for revision to bypass next month. I have been through an eating disorder program and feel like I now have the tools to be more successful this time. Sadly I am now 63 and the support groups at the eating disorder clinic aren't covered by medicare. I wish I could find a once a week support group instead if once a month. -
Hi I'm 63, so good to see I'm not the only one. I'm scheduled for revision from lap band to bypass on 12/14/17.

I've had a lap band for almost ten years, and I've been 20 pounds over my starting weight for years. I am scheduled for revision to bypass on 12/14/17. My surgeon says it all depends on what he finds in there. He's hoping to do both on the same day. If I have too much damage from the band, I will have to heal for three months and then go back for bypass. I can not wait to have my band out. It was the worst decision I ever made. It's been miserable and unsuccessful. I can't even eat scrambled eggs without getting them stuck. I paid $17,000 out of pocket for that band. Insurance is. Covering this surgery.

This is my first time on here, how do we stay connected and find this conversation?
