    Over eating before surgery

Being at work helps me a ton, but weekends get me because my fiancé is like your spouse, he'll want doughnuts or McDonalds and it's hard to find ok food at McDonalds! And who can resist doughnuts. He was doing it with me, not losing weight, but just getting into shape. And that helped a ton. Will your spouse do anything like that? I go to the gym about 3 days a week and do weightlifting. Since then, my fiancé has gotten into weightlifting. It's been nice to have that in common but because he's not losing weight, the food is still a challenge.

Thank you for this. I have been hard on my self for my slip ups, but I'm right back on track this morning.

    Over eating before surgery

Did they recommend you do no carbs? I do almost a low carb, but like I said, I blew it this past weekend. I've lost 23lbs during my 6 moth, I still have 2 months left. I still eat some carbs though. I've tried keto and failed at it, I actually gained more weight. I just watch calories.

    Over eating before surgery

I'm doing my 6 month insurance process as well and I have the problem where I do great all weekend and then I destroy the weekends. I am not sure why either. I think maybe it is a fear of not getting to have those foods again. For me I think maybe I'm not busy enough on the weekends. I work out 5 times a week and kill it during the week, but man, the weekends get me. Do you take your lunch? I take my meals to work so I know that's all I can have during the work day. It keeps me on track better than if I say I can go to the gift shop or the cafeteria, I work in a hospital.
  5. I am not to the post surgery stage yet, but I do not have a blender. It seems most like the Ninja. Which version would be best? What attachments, what models? We have a small kitchen, but I do need a blender and will after surgery for sure. Thank you so much!

Coming up on 4 Months Post-Op

Like mentioned above, I would check your inches lost. I'm still in my preop, and I haven't lost much, but I go to the gym a lot and I've noticed my clothes fitting better. I would say keep up with inches, you are probably getting toned and building muscle. Good luck!!
  7. I'm about 3 months into my 6/7 months of preop wait for my insurance and I've been doing all the things to get ready for this surgery. I keep reading the books, finding people to follow online, exercising, trying to watch what I eat, but for the life of me I feel like I'm already failing. I was on Saxenda and was doing great, but my insurance decided I didn't need it and now I'm worried I won't lose weight before surgery. I don't have an amount I have to lose and the dr office says I'm doing great, but I keep putting so much pressure on myself. Almost as if I should be losing a ton of weight alone, however, if I could, I wouldn't need wls. Right. Haha. Sorry I just needed a place to let these feelings out. Does anyone have any tips on managing this pressure/anxiety? Any tips on something to read? I guess maybe it's the wait, I'm ready now to take this journey, but with trying all I can I keep losing nothing and it's so defeating.

I will try this! Do you still do a low carb lifestyle now even after your surgery?

    Feeling Helpless

Honestly, I haven't tracked this week at all. Protein I get about 70g. I do eat carbs, but normally just rice and not much of it. Calories, I'm honestly not sure. Maybe that's where I'm messing up, probably getting more in than what I'm thinking. As far as exercise, I work out 3 days a week at the gym and then one night a week of pole fitness. I have tried Keto before and was in ketosis, however, I still didn't lose much. I honestly kept losing and gaining the same 8lbs.

    Feeling Helpless

I am one to weight almost daily. It's horrible, then when I go to the dr and it says different I get upset. I rely too much on that dang scale. I will throw it out and just focus on making healthier choices and getting stronger in my workouts. Also water, I can get to about 70oz and they want me at 100oz. So much drinking.

    Feeling Helpless

This is some what similar to what the dr said. I mean the habits I am creating will help me in the long run. I just wanted to try to lose some to boost myself ahead a little. But I think honestly I'm taking the excitement out of it. No matter what, I will lose, I am getting the tool I need to help me.

They do have a support group, I'm going to my first meeting next week. They have it twice a month.

This is true. Maybe that's what I'm doing, I'm focusing on every bite and calories burned and weight loss. I think I'll try the small goals idea. Set small goals and be excited for them. I'm going to have to have my husband hide my scale. It brings me down too much.

    Pre-op exercise

I love it. It does work muscles I never use, even with going to the gym. I get sore and I have yet to get off the ground. I frustrates me, but I just keep trying. Haha. I did ask my husband if I can put a pole in the living room to practice. He said no, maybe once we get a bigger house haha. He didn't want to have to explain a pole in the living room to people. Haha!

    Pre-op exercise

I actually have an odd exercise regime. I lost weight a few years back dancing burlesque and cabaret. Well I put the weight back on. Of course. Now we have a pole fitness company here so I've joined that. I can't get up the pole yet, partly because I don't trust the pole and my arms to hold me but also because I let my mind hold me back. But I'm hoping as I lose weight, I can get better and actually perform on stage again. I also go the gym about 3 times a week for cardio and strength training (to assist in my pole abilities haha).

    Pre op weight gain

My program will cancel anyone who gains any weight over a couple of pounds. They also have a 7 month wait. So for 7 months you have to watch what you eat to show you are serious. I've been in my program for 2.5 months and I am down 12lbs, but they also put me on saxenda to help assist me. Not gonna lie, I work out and try to eat better. It's hard though. If it was easy we wouldn't be here. Good luck to you!!

    No caffeine? Ever?

I was told to cut back on caffeine. So for me the only time I have it is when I have 8oz mixed with my caramel protein shake (maybe happens 3 times a week). But I think she was trying to help me cut back on sodas (which I've stopped) and my fattening tea (changed to decaf and stevia). Now my tea can count as water according to my doctor. I'm sure all are different though.
  19. Hello all, I am only a few months into my preop 6 month required diet. I don't have much of a diet to follow. I have cut out sodas and sweets. I have been eating more veggies and less carbs. My question is, I've only lost 2lbs. I wanted to lose some on my own before wls to just help myself get further ahead I guess. I've seen some people doing a Keto type diet after they have wls. Has anyone done it before surgery and seen any benefits? Also, I have a work trip in March, a few months before my surgery, and I have to fly! I've never flown and would like to lose a few before I have to squeeze into a seat on a plane.

    Preop and Keto

Yeah, they have had me testing out protein shakes. I may try it next week and see how it goes. I meal plan, so this week is planned out (I have a family of 4). It may be a tad tricky for me. I do worry about decreased energy. I've been trying to go to the gym which is hard already being a working mom.
  21. Hello everyone, I'm having such a hard time deciding what I want to do. I am 318lbs and 5'5, but I don't hate my body. I have sore knees and I get out of breath a lot, but I don't hate my fat. So on one site I want to have surgery to feel better and help my fatty liver, but on the other side, I've been on diets my whole life, I question if this is right for me. Has anyone regretted their surgery? Is it possible to be happy, healthy, and fat? Where does body positivity fit into this? I need to hear what others think on this. Thank you
  22. This is a great idea!! Thank you!
  23. No no, I understood what you meant. I didn't take it as being bad or anything, I appreciate the bluntness. I have been trying to do better with my food, but I am getting stuck. I'll find a good breakfast but I'll get bored with it after a week or two. I need to find some more recipes. I also lack being active and need to get back into doing that. I'm afraid if I don't figure these two things out, I'll fail at wls before I even have it!
  24. I'm not sure either. I have seen a doctor for my knees, they are formed wrong and have been since birth, however, the weight I carry doesn't help it. My knee caps are located more toward the outside of my knee versus the top, it causes the bone on bone to grind and such. I did physical therapy but it didn't do much. I was hoping that if I dropped some of the extra weight, it would take the pressure off of them.
  25. This is true. I'm sure my knees will just get worse and that make life harder. I agree with you on body positivity as loving your body but also making it healthy. I have my next apt this Friday so I'm going to keep going. I believe this is what is best for me and my family. Thank you for your advice!
