Changes in sense of smell
MissLindseyR replied to passportx2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did! I'm in week 5 and things have gotten more back to normal. But my smell senses were so high certain things made me nauseous as well. It does get more normal as you get further down the road. -
Im 3 weeks past op and suddenly stalled weight loss this week.
MissLindseyR replied to Crissy A's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am at the beginning of week 5 and I haven't lost since the beginning of week 3. I was just able to get my calories to 800. I'm hoping this gets things going again. Good luck to you!! -
It's not the best, but my family eats out a lot and I also travel with work. I tend to pack a lunchbox to take with me places. While I was on the liquid stage, I would pack my protein shakes and jello and sit at Wendy's and eat with my family. And I travel for work too and just try to stay within my diet restrictions.

Hello friends, You guys are the best, so I wanted to ask about eating at restaurants. I sometimes travel for my job, it's normally in the spring but I have a 2 day trip next week. I am only 4/5 weeks out and I'm still on eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, etc. By the time the trip comes, I'll be able to have shaved deli meats and cheeses. What do you recommend when it comes to eating at restaurants? I'm worried about, let's say they go somewhere and I can get scrambled eggs. Will what they cook it in make me sick? How do you know what they are cooking your food in if it's not grilled salmon for example. Will certain oils make me sick? I really don't want to dump while on my trip or while traveling. Thank you all!!!

This is amazing, thank you for all of this. Do you have an Instagram or anything where you share your meals and such?
-
You can eat the chocolate? I'm only 5 weeks out from gastric bypass and I am a little stressed, I ate potato soup and dumped and I've somehow put on 5lbs?! How many calories are gastric bypass pt's suppose to get? I hit maybe 400 on a good day. I'm glad to see your snack options!!!
-
@FluffyChix, can you share the chicken pot pie soup recipe and the king ranch casserole soup one as well? Thanks!
-
I've thought of this, I will hit lettuce and cooked veggies right after my trip next week, I may advance those and try soft cooked veggies a day earlier. Since oils don't have sugar, will they make me dump?
-
I worry about soups though. I'm allowed mashed potatoes and baked potatoes so I tried a potato soup and it had me dumping. I worry about the hidden sugars in the foods as well.

Hello all, I am having trouble getting my protein in. I have 3 weeks out from gastric bypass. I am back at work and I feel ok for now, but worried about in the long run. I can't seem to stomach my protein shakes at all. I have a few others on the way to try, but it's like they hit my stomach so hard. I also can only get about 40oz of water in as well. Any tips? Thank you!

So, I actually found a plant based protein powder at SAMs and it has worked really well. I am able to drink it and it doesn't hit my stomach hard at all. Thank goodness. Be careful though if you look at SAMs, they have more than one plant based protein, one of them is full of sugar.

Awesome, thank you!!!

Any idea where I can get some small samples to try? Amazon?

I have not tried those, I have tried the Protein 2.0 and the premier clear. They actually make me thirstier. I have Quest on the way to try those. I am doing yogurt, but I worry since I can't eat the whole thing that I'm still lacking in protein. Even putting the flavorless in foods, when I don't finish it, am I really getting much protein? I have tried those two clear ones, premier protein, and the protein shots. Like I said, I have quest on the way, but it seems most protein hits my stomach really hard. Should I try another type of protein? Thanks!

I know, I don't understand, but she's had pretty much the same foods, I guess just smaller portions. I dunno. I'm approaching her weight though and my surgery was 2 months after hers. But my age may help me some. I dunno, right now I can barely stomach water.

Let's Play Another Round of "How Much Am I Eating Now?"
MissLindseyR replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I need help. I am 3 weeks out and I can't hit my protein or my water. I tried eggs last night and I have been nauseous ever since. I'm back at work but feel so sick I haven't been able to drink. What were you guys eating at 3 weeks out. I am a gastric bypass patient and I cannot stomach premier protein shakes right now. Thank you! -
Protein Shots - 15g Protein, 60 Cal
MissLindseyR replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So you may have just saved my life. After surgery, my premier taste like rotten milk. I'll be ordering these today!!! -
I feel you, I'm starting week 3 post op for my gastric bypass. My aunt had the sleeve and I'm noticing the diets are so different, she's eating pizza, probably not the best choice, but I just got released to do cottage cheese, strained soups, mashed potatoes, and yogurt. It seems for the gastric bypass, it's a super slow process. I wanted to make the ricotta bake, but I can't have any cheese until week 5!!! It pains me. Also, on the soup thing, that sounds great, but no veggies till week 6 for me. But I am going to try to make my own bone broth soup!

Altered Taste Buds
MissLindseyR replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I do this, I can taste the fluids from the IV when they are pushed! I didn't know others could too. I thought I was just weird. Haha! -
I am on day 8 of my 14 day liquid diet. My surgery is next Monday, Julu 2nd. I'm terrified and excited too. The diet has been hard. Not gonna lie, I had a few bits of turkey sausage on day 5. I'm only allowed protein drinks, SF jello, SF popsicles, and broth. But I've lost 14lbs in one week. It's kinda crazy. Good luck on everything!!

1st day of pre-op diet - 8 hours in - absolutely starving!!!!
MissLindseyR replied to LD91's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I have trouble with this. Now that I'm on day 5, I'm not hungry really at all. But I miss eating. I have no idea how our bodies do this, handle being on this low of calories and still function. It's kinda blowing my mind that I'm able to work and just do life and only be eating 600 to 700 calories. -

My colleagues are the same way. today is my day 3 liquid diet. Yesterday my colleagues had cookies and Asian with egg rolls. OMG, it's hard, but I'm down 5 lbs already. That kinda helps. -
I won't have surgery until July 2nd, but this is my plan after I'm healed. I followed a lot of people who have had weight loss surgery and they follow keto. It seems to help. Just maybe don't go crazy on the high fats it could make you sick.

I'm on day 2 of my liquid diet too. I get 3 protein shakes, sf jello, and broth. I've been around 640 calories. I'm starving. I'm sure it's head hunger, but my stomach rumbles all day. -
I'm on day 2 of my preop liquid diet. It'll be for two weeks for me. I only get broth, protein shakes, sf jello. I think I hit 640 calories yesterday. I wasn't given a calorie amount so I'm not too sure about that part. How long will you be in the hospital?
