Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
DrewsLou replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dynamo.... I don't generally use much liquid Protein. I get most of my protein in with solids in my regular diet. If I am feeling a little run down and tired I supplement with EAS Carb Advantage shakes. They have like 20 grams of protein I think. I never have had any problems with losing my hair and stuff like I have read other people having and I attribute this to eating my protein first.. chicken, beef, Beans... ect. Try not to get too hung up on the protein thing. I freaked out about it at first and went out and blew a ton of money on different shakes and powders to find I didn't really like any of them anyway. One good thing I found, if you can stomach it, is Isopure Protein drinks. You can get them at GNC and they are clear so they work great for the first week or so after surgery. One bottle has 40 grams I think. We will have to meet up at a support group meeting or something sometime! I haven't met many bandsters in real life!! -
:welcome: Welcome to LBT!! Read everything you can and ask any questions you might have. There are not stupid questions!!

There are some AMAZING restraunts around and some great clubs if that's your thing. There are also museums and stuff. Too bad you won't be here on the 9th... you could come to my roller derby bout.... a guaranteed good time! -

:welcome: I COMPLETELY understand your feelings! I felt like I was being selfish in spending this much money on myself when there were other things to be taken care of financially. But now, 10 months out and 72 pounds lighter I KNOW I made the right choice. I am also in Denver. Walking the 16th Street Mall will be great for you after surgery... hopefully the weather is nice while your here. As far as the night before surgery, what kinds of things do you like to do? Good luck to you and keep up with us so we know how you are doing! -

Let me know what support group meeting (the date) you will be making and I will be sure to make it! I have only attended one meeting in my 10 months being banded and was very suprised at the things I heard, it was an eye-opening experience for me! -
:update: I can skate again!!!!!! I am cleared to get back on skates just in time for Thursdays DollHouse training session! Had I not got hurt I would have completed training last month and been officially inducted into the league last week... but it's a no go for me. I have to go through the next 4 weeks of training and in addition make 2 extra practices and then I will be eligible to test in at the end of the month. :crutch: is no more!!

Do you miss eating like you used to?
DrewsLou replied to ATRAVOLTA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In one word... YES! There are times that I wish I could just stuff my face like the old days. I realize now what a comfort food was to me and am working on other sources to fill that void. -
Here ya go! See ya'll there! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/may-bandsters-march-t30757.html?p=406876#post406876

Hey fellow Maysters!! I hope this finds everyone healthy and happy! As I enter month 9 of my banding journey I am amazed at how far I have come. I have done so many things this past few months that I would have NEVER done a year or so ago. The biggest thing is probably roller derby. No way in hell would I have put myself out there like that a year ago! Last night I went through a grueling 2 hour practice that included core strengthening and endurance excercises and drills. I never would I have thought I would be able to keep up... and I did! I was even in the top 4 of the other Baby Dolls (us newbies)! I never knew I could sweat and stink as much as I do when I get in the car after practice. WHEW! I was awesome to skate with the girls that have been doing this for a long time and be told that they were very impressed with me. I was absolutley GLOWING when I left the rink last night. My hubby is just thrilled with the change in me and my giddy excitment when I come home from practice just thrills him to no end. I had another fills last Tuesday.. I now have 2.5cc's in my band. Between that and 2 hard practices I dropped 4 pounds this week! YAY! What about you? What can you do (or are you doing) that you couldn't do before banding??

Ooops! I'm slacking! Off to make a new March thread right now!

Kim..... I can soooo relate to your stomach bug! I ahve been fighting a virus since last week and on Monday I had the pukey part. I called my doc right away and he got me a script for phenegran so I didn't puke. Today I am coughing and I am still running a fever. I am here at work but not for long I'm afraid.

Interesting.... Did he hit your port pretty easily? -
Will someone please help a fellow bandster?

I understand EXACTLY what you are saying about being afraid of being too tight sherry! I have the same fear. For that reason I only have 2.5cc's in my band currently and I am VERY conservative with my fills. I have reached a level of restriction now that I am very happy with. I can eat a little less than a cup of food at a time and no bread what so ever (which is good for me since I am an addict!). I think if I was any tighter at this point I might panic that I'm not able to eat enough. Hang in there girl! -
Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver.... $9950.00.

Hey Jenea!!! I have heard of Dr Johnell. In fact, I called his office when I was researching surgery but at that time he was mostly doing bands on people with insurance. I went with Dr K in Aurora and it has been great! (I was self pay) Also... I grew up in Longmont but now live closer to Denver. Let me know if I can do anything to help! Peace.

Congrats Neal! You made it to goal in record time my friend. I hope to see you at the finish line soon!

Hey kids!! I am still here... gimping away. A guy I work with started calling me R2-D2 yesterday from my limp. I promptly threw a bottle of Water at him. That will teach him! I am going to my first EVER roller derby bout tonight and can't wait. it's going to be a blast! I'll have my hubby take a pic of me in my fishnets and knee brace...lol. 3Loaves(loves)!! Sooooooooo good to see you back around here girl!! I sent you a PM. Marci... congrats on onderland.... I am JEALOUS! marz.... we will have to get together sometime when your in Denver... my neck of the woods! kim and alicia... sound slike you are doing great with your fills! I am having a "spa day" with my mom tomorrow and can't wait! Facials, massages and pedicures are just what the doctor ordered! Hope everyone has a FAB weekend!

Hey May peeps! I only lost one freakin' pound this week and now I am unable to excercise for at least a week. The knee is worse than we originally thought... I will be off skates for 4-6 weeks. I have to wear a huge hinged knee brace when I'm up and a immobolizer when I'm in bed. I am so pissed and frustrated. I feel like I just got going now I'm getting knocked down again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Thanks for letting me vent. :drama:

FYI... I70 is about 10 miles or so north of Dr K's office. His office is right off of I225. As far as clothes... I wore a comfy velour track suit to surgery. I recommend something slip on with an elastic waist and a top that zips or buttons versus pull over. For me it was easier to wear slip on shoes rather than shoes I had to tie as well. -
