Looking for some input and opinions here. I am thinking about joining one of the roller derby leagues in Denver. I love the idea of it and I think I'm "that kind of girl" but am feeling a little unsure. It has been a long time since I have "put myself out there" like that. I still have weird body image issues and think I am still too big to do it. Hubby disagrees and has been showing me pics of the other girls from their website and they are about the same size as me. Hubby is all for it and is very supportive. What do you all think?

My doc found a HUGE fobroid last week when I had my annual exam and I have to have a hysteroscopy done on Friday. Has anyone ever had this done? What can I expect? I have been doing some reading online this morning and have freaked myself out. Here's some info I found: What is hysteroscopy? Hysteroscopy provides a way for your physician to look inside your uterus. A hysteroscope is a thin, telescope-like instrument that is inserted into the uterus through the vagina and cervix. This tool often helps a physician diagnose or treat a uterine problem. Hysteroscopy is minor surgery which is performed either in your physician's office or in a hospital setting. It can be performed with local, regional, or general anesthesia--sometimes no anesthesia is needed. There is little risk involved with this procedure for most women. When is hysteroscopy used? Hysteroscopy may be either diagnostic or operative. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used to diagnose some uterine abnormalities, and may also be used to confirm the results of other tests such as hysterosalpingography (HSG). Other instruments or techniques, such as dilation and curettage (D&C) and laparoscopy, are sometimes used in conjunction with the hysteroscopy. Diagnostic hysteroscopy can be used to diagnose certain conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, repeated miscarriages, adhesions, fibroid tumors, polyps, or to locate displaced intrauterine devices (IUDs). An operative hysterocopy may be used, instead of open abdominal surgery, to both diagnose and treat certain conditions such as uterine adhesions, septums, or fibroids which can often be removed through the hysteroscope. The hysteroscope is sometimes used with other instruments such as the resectoscope to treat some cases of abnormal bleeding; however after this procedure, known as endometrial ablation, women can no longer have children so it is not an option for women who wish to have future pregnancies. Endometrial ablation is a procedure which destroys the lining of the uterus. The resectoscope is a telescope-like instrument with a wire loop, a rollerball, or a roller cylinder tip at the end. Electric current at the end of the tip is used to destroy the uterine lining. This procedure is usually performed in an outpatient setting. When should hysteroscopy be performed? The best time for hysteroscopy is during the first week or so after your period. During this time your physician is best able to view the inside of the uterus. How will I be prepared for hysteroscopy? If you are having general anesthesia in the hospital, you will be told not to eat or drink anything for a certain period of time (usually after midnight the night before) before the procedure. Routine lab tests may be ordered as well for women having a hysteroscopy in the hospital. You will be asked to empty your bladder and your vaginal area will be cleansed with an antiseptic. Sometimes a drug to help you relax is ordered. Next you will be prepared for anesthesia: Local anesthesia: You will receive an injection of anesthetic around the cervix to numb it, with this type of anesthesia you remain awake and may feel some cramping. Regional anesthesia: A drug is injected, through a needle or tube in your lower back, that blocks the nerves that receive sensation from the pelvic region. You are awake with this type of anesthetic, but feel no discomfort. Regional anesthesia is also called a spinal or epidural. General anesthesia: You will not be conscious during your hysteroscopy when general anesthesia is used. A mask over your mouth and nose allows you to breathe a mixture of gases. Once you are under anesthesia, a tube may be inserted down your throat to help you breathe. Your physician will determine which type of anesthesia is best for you based on the reason for your hysteroscopy. Remember to ask questions if anything is about your procedure or anesthesia is unclear. HELP!

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?

I had to have my port replaced last year due to a leak in the tubing (was punctured during a fill) and I'm wondering how common this problem is. Please answer the poll and discuss! -

Heyloooooooooo to all you skinny bitches! Apparently I have been missed?!? Thanks for the myspace message marcy! I am still around, haven't logged into this site in FOREVER!! How is everyone? This thread has gotten way too big for me to go back to where I left off months ago. I have been super busy with roller derby. I am now the VP of my league and seem to be involved in everything that is derby these days. I went to KC in Feb on a derby trip and was in Milwaukee last month for an annual conference for yup... derby. I am trying to figure out a way to get to Vegas next month for a girls weekend with a bunch of derby girls. I am still not at goal. I gained some weight and have since lost what I gained and a little more. Still have about 40 pounds to go but it'll happen. I hate my job and am looking for something closer to home. Gas is killing me! Talk to ya'll soon! :blushing: -

Nope, haven't lost weight in months. Derby is back in season and I'm skating 7 hours a week again and I need to be able to eat more. I have been PB'ing and getting stuck A LOT and it was time for an unfill. Going out for a steak dinner tonight! Tom did my unfill and I LOVE him! I'm a Tom girl from now on! -

Hey strangers! I'm going in for an unfill this afternoon at 2:30.... will anyone else be there at that time? If so, say hi! xoxox -
After a couple of months of suspecting a leak.... it was confirmed on Monday with flouro. There is a leak in my tubing about an inch or so above my port. I will have to have my port replaced as it is attached to that portion of tubing. I am having that done November 2. Ironically, that is exactly 6 month to the day since I had the band placed. I am pretty frusterated (sp?) about this!!! We will send the tubing and port back to Inamed after it is taken out and they will determine if it is a manufacturer defect or if it was punctured with a fill needle. Support needed!!! Peace.

I first heard about the band in January 2006 and started doing some research online to see if any doctor's in Denver were doing the surgery. I found Dr K and met with him at the end of Jan 06. I weighed 289 and had a BMI of 43 when I had my consultation. My husband got really sick and was hospitalized so I put surgery off until May. I had soooo many "last suppers" that I gained another 10 pounds in the 2 weeks before my pre-op diet. I stuck to the pre-op diet and was 280 on surgery day. Surgery itself was really no problem, I just felt like I had been doing crunches all day, I was up and walking around about 30 minutes after I woke up. The first few months the weight really melted off. I had 2 fills in that time. In August I noticed I wasn't losing and didn't feel any restriction. I went in for a fill and Dr K was only able to pull .2cc's out, my last fill had been 1.5cc's. He put 1.7cc's in and we waited a bit and he tried to take the same amount back out and he was only able to pull less than 1cc out. He decided at that time that I had a leak. A couple of weeks later I went in and had a fill under flouro with contrast so we could tell exactly where I was leaking from, and it was confirmed I had a leak in my tubing above the port. The port and tubing are connected, so it all had to be replaced. My husband got sick again and I had to put my port replacement surgery off until November. Exactly 6 months after being banded I had my port replaced. I opted for general anethesia (I'm a wimp!) and was in and out of surgery with an hour. Dr K gave me my port and tubing and the tubing was punctured several times. He said he probably punctured it accidentally when trying to give me a fill. I started losing weight again and by Feb 07 I got down to 205, for a total loss of 80 pounds. I haven't lost weight in months but am down to a size 14 from a 22 so I can't complain too much! I always wanted to play roller derby... were else can grown women beat the crap outta each other then go buy each other beers afterwards? Losing 80 pounds gave me the confidence and ability to skate 8 hours a week and I love every second of it! There's my story in a nutshell! Aren't you sorry you asked? :faint: -
I have asked this same question many times Gadget! We got really into "Big Love" and I still can't understand why polygamy is illegal. It's not illegal to be a drain on society is it? (Not that I am condoning that, just sayin')

Hey gang! I have been MIA for awhile, life has been busy! I won't be able to make tomorrows gathering but hope to make the next one. We are going into a 3 month off season with derby here starting Saturday so my schedule will open up a bunch. I am a pretty frustrated bandster these days. A year and a half later I have only lost 75ish pounds and have been gaining and losing the same 5 pounds for the past 6 months. A few weeks ago I had a horrible PB that caused me to have a lot of acid reflux... to the point it was waking me up and I had to sleep propped up on pillows. That lasted a few days but has since gone away. I decided to wait it out for a few days before I called Dr K because I knew he would probably just prescribe Nexium and my insurance doesn't cover it. I have times that I can eat with no trouble and times that the smallest things makes me stop up like a clogged drain. I know most of this is my fault because of my food choices. I didn't get banded to be on a diet though. I want to be able to eat (most) of the things I love just in drastically smaller portions than I used to. Maybe I just need to bust my ass with more physical excercise and see what happens with that. I took most of October off from skating, I think I made a whopping 3 practices. I was fighting a cold then a GI bug last month. I have made 3 practices this month already, in fact yesterday I skated from 2-7:30. 2 more hours on Thursday and then I am off for 3 months with only one practice a week during that time. I know this is a horribly rambling post and I appreciate it if you made it through. Hope to see you soon! -

For me, I spent: $9950.00 to be banded $0 for my port replacement I actually spend MORE on groceries now because I only buy high quality organic meats and veggies. But I save a bunch on perscriptions for high blood pressure that I no longer need!
