Shoulder Pain Question
danyel723 replied to shrinknme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery April 30th I had that pain for about 1 1/2 months and I still get it when I eat the wrong thing or drink too fast or not chew. It has been 3 months since my surgery and I still get it all the time. I was told that it is from working so close to the diaphram. Good luck to you I hope yours goes away. Did they fix a hiatel hernia while they were in there? I heard that can be a cause also. Danielle -
I have had severe shoulder pain since my surgery on 4.30.08. I seem to have it all the time though, when I wake up in the morning, if I eat something that my band doesn't like, when I drink water ect.... I have just come to realize that this is something that I have to deal with for a while. But I am glad that it is not something that is terribly wrong with me, cause I was thinking that is was. I did talk to my doctor and he said that it would eventually go away, but he said that it was cause they work so close the diaphram that that cause the shoulder pain. Please let me know if anyone elses has gone away so that I feel like there may be hope for me.

Is Anyone Else Having Burning Pain in The Rt. Upper Back Between The Shoulder Blade?
danyel723 replied to jacqueib's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the same thing the day of my first fill. It was like a sharp burning pain. Mine went away the day after so I wasn't that concerned. I maybe thought some of the muscles may be being pulled from the fill. Let me know if you do talk to your doctor. I kind of hope it doesn't happen every time you get a fill. -
Anyone used Great Lake Weight Loss/Detroit?
danyel723 replied to vkcse03's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Sorry it took me some time to get back...haven't been on in a couple of days. I didn't have any trouble getting phone calls back they said expect about 48 hours to get a return call. Plus there is a couple different #'s to call. I haven't had to call with any complications though so I don't have any answer for that. But I had no problem getting my 6 week follow up right at 6 weeks. I know some people go to 7 or 8 weeks before they can see their doctor for a fill. Good luck in making your decision! danyel -
I don't have any books, but you might want to check on amazon they sell used books...it's worth a shot. Have you scheduled a surgery date? Or are you still deciding? Let me know if the amazon thing works. Take care, Danyel

I watched the procedure on youtube. There is a bunch to select from. I watched it a couple of days before I had mine. Let's just say it is very interesting. Good luck!

danyel723 replied to vkcse03's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I don't believe that my band was filled. I am yet to get a fill, I am scheduled for one on the 13th of June. I am now on solid foods but I don't eat as much as I used to and I get full very fast. My doctor told me the day of surgery that this should go nice and easy cause I was skinny....hehe. The first time in my life I was called skinny. I love it. Good luck with everything, let me know how things go danyel -
Anyone used Great Lake Weight Loss/Detroit?
danyel723 replied to vkcse03's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am doing great! It has been 4 weeks and I have lost 20lbs. I go for my first fill on the 13th of June. I live right downtown Detroit so I am only about a mile from the hospital. I think my bmi was 35 at my consult. I called to set up my consult and got in the next week and the following week I was having my surgery. I am finally on regular food now, but I am still trying to only about 1/2 cup at a time. which I will prob try doing till I get my fill. I am more than happy that I made this decision. I still have some pain in my port area, which I believe is to be expected for a while. Good luck to everyone!! Let me know how things are going. -

I was banded on April 30th by Dr.Webber at great lakes weightloss center. I was very pleased with my experience. They do the surgery at Harper in Detroit. The pre-op nurse that I had was a bit much but all of the other nurses were great. Are you in the Detroit area? Good luck with your decision !! -
My doctor is Dr. Webber. Where in michigan are you from Terri?

Where is the conference? -
Thank you all for the good wishes. I am 11 days out from surgery and have been feeling great. Still on liquids for a couple more days then I get to have mushie food. So any suggestions would be great. I still have some tenderness in my stomach, but I expected that. I'm going to start walking more, I am a bartender so I already do a lot of walking. I have been feeling like I get full very fast even on liquids but I'm sure there is still some swelling. Can anyone help me get a ticker? I have lost about 13lbs in 2 1/2 weeks so I am very excited and would like to keep track of it. Thanks again everyone for thoughts!!!

Burning Sensation!!
danyel723 replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi JerseyGirl, I was banded on the 30th and I also have that burning feeling over my port. I really feel it when I bend over and when I try to get up out of bed. I always worry about if I am doing something wrong. I don't see my doctor for another 5 weeks so hopefully I haven't done damage. -

Tell me about it my stomach is still very bloated and I can't decide if it is from the gas or just swelling from the surgery. Does any one have a sharp pain in the side of your stomach when you take a deep breath in, kind of like when you are very very full and try to breath you get a stitch in your side? But other than that I am feeling pretty good. Trying to walk as much as possible. I am down about 8 pounds since my 1 week pre-op diet. Can't wait to see how eating is after a fill, if it is anything like right now it will be great...I fill up pretty quick. Take care, Danielle

Feeling Unmotivated!! HELP!
danyel723 replied to kyrstenmarie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Kristen, I know it is hard to get the motivation back once you feel like you have failed. I'm sure everyone you has told you just to start the next day new. Well we all know how easy that is said, not easy to do. If you could only think of the big picture Kristen I think that may help you. Don't spend one more day of your life unhappy, you are worth more than that. I am 33 and have been overweight my whole life. I have tried and failed every diet know to man. I wish that this would have been available to me when I was 18 so that maybe my 20's would have been a lot more fun. I think you need to visualize how you will feel and look when you are at your goal weight....you should do this every day. Take one day at a time, don't get down on yourself, and ask for support. But just know that by doing just 6 months of something that seems so hard will make an entire lifetime a little easier. If you want someone to talk to one on one I would be happy to help you through this. I was just banded on April 30th and I am glad I didn't waste one more day to start living a happy, healthy life. Please use the support you will find here to help you get through this. Take care Kristen and let me know how you are doing, Danielle -
Well I'm not sure how far you want to travel. I am from Detroit and here at Harper hospital they are running a spring special for 9,900. I just had my surgery done there on the 30th of april and had a great experience there. I know a lot of people come from all over the to have their surgeries done there. It took only 2 weeks from my first phone call till the time I was having my surgery. Hopefully some of this was helpful, and if there is anything else I can help you with let me know. Take care and good luck, Danielle

Well I made it through!!! After I left the hospital I spent the weekend at my parents, they don't have internet (yes they live in the ice age) so I couldn't let you know how things went. The first couple of days sucked but I am feeling much much better today. Lots of discomfort in the port area, I feel a burning tugging feeling when standing up. My stomach is still very bloated, I hope to God it is going to go down soon. I haven't weighed myself figured it would be pointless considering I think that I am retaining all the liquids that I have consumed in the last week. Well thanks for all the support and I will keep you posted. Take care everyone, Danielle

Hi everyone! My surgery is on Thursday!
danyel723 replied to karen21375's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Karen!! I had my surgery on the 30th so I am still healing. It hasn't been to bad except the gas pain in the shoulder hasn't been too fun. I suggest sleeping in a recliner, drinking as much water as you can and walking as much as you can. You really could care less about food, at least for the first week. Be careful getting up and down... use a pillow to press against your stomach to make it a little easier, that is also good for coughing. Take nice deep breaths and enjoy the start of your new life!! -
Hello everyone!! Glad to hear everyone is doing good. I have been on Clear liquids since surgery, my docs does a week of clear. So that is getting a little old, I tried a full liquid today. That didn't work so good, back to clear. As far as getting out, I did go to target for a little bit. I have to go back to work on tuesday so I am trying to push myself. I bartend so I do a lot of walking. There is a crazy monster in my stomach that has been growling trying to get out. I haven't weighed myself so I'm not sure if I lost wieght or not. Well everyday gets better so hopefully in a week we will all feel ourselves. take care everone!! Danielle

Hello everyone!! I'm at home, having some gas pains in my left shoulder. Standing seems to be a problem, it feels like a burning ripping feeling. Hopefully this is normal. Just like you Kelly I am sick of the broth and jello. I am kind of having problem with the popcicles, I think that they might be to cold or something. Well I hope everyone is doing good, our journey has just begun. take care, Danielle

Thanks Lori! I went to GNC tonight and picked up a couple of bottles...I needed some kind of protein, kindof a rough day on all clear liquids. The hospital called finally, and moved my surgery up to 7am so I am very relieved that I don't have to wait all day. Yea!!!my day is finally here.
