Kio started following 8 weeks post op thursday, belching, Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours and and 2 others
-
Had it bad in the first month, but it goes away. I worried too, when I was having this problem, and googled extensively! What I learned was it passes with time. How far out from surgery are you? One note tho - I also burp after meals now if I have eaten too much! It can be a sign to reduce portion size, too.

Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
Kio replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My taste buds haven’t changed. Stuff that I liked before still tastes good. I haven’t tried a lot of that stuff because it’s junk, and I’m not doing that to myself so early in the process. But everything I have tried that I liked is the same. What has changed is my tolerance. I used to eat a lot of eggs and loves them, but eggs don’t often agree with me now. White meat from chicken also doesn’t sit well - nor does tuna. They taste fine on the way in! But the pouch doesn’t like them and sometimes they come right back up. Premier protein shakes were also a challenge for a while - the taste was the same as pre-op but my pouch didn’t like the consistency. Now I never drink them straight - only watered down, most often with decaf coffee or tea! -
3 weeks. At the end of 2 weeks I felt fine and like I could go back then - but at the beginning of week 3 I had some minor issues (fatigue, some food intolerances) that made me glad I had the third week. I work from home, 5 days/40 hours a week on a desk - but concentration and focus would have been lacking that third week.

Several questions about post op RNY down the road
Kio replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I throw up sometimes, when I’ve eaten something too fast or when something just doesn’t agree with me. I’m 8 weeks post op and this has probably happened about 5 times. Only one of those times was the vomiting urgent/involuntary. The other times it was just clear to me that I was going to be very unhappy until whatever it was came back up, so I made myself throw up. Vomiting is not as bad an experience post-op as it was pre-op, at least not for me. It’s quick and painless, and because you have so little stomach acid it doesn’t burn. I’ve read about people having trouble with their teeth after RNY but it’s not really teeth - it’s bone loss in the gums that can make teeth loosen and sometimes fall out. That’s why taking your calcium is so important after surgery. Some people on other forums recommend getting a dexa scan to measure your bone density before surgery, then repeating it once a year. This is because it’s hard to test calcium levels with blood tests - your body needs a certain level of calcium in your blood to survive and will pull it from your bones if you aren’t absorbing enough from your dietary/vitamin intake. Dexa scans can show if you’re losing bone density due to insufficient calcium. -
I’ll be 8 weeks post op tomorrow. I’ve lost about 32 lbs since surgery, and my doc thinks I’m right on track. I’ve had some short stalls - one week long stall just broke yesterday. I don’t think you have anything to worry about!
